Sometimes I just wonder if all of my scheduling and planning for my various characters that I have is just for naught. However, trying to keep to some for organization, I still try to rotate around my various characters to make sure I devote some time to all of them. Its inevitable that sometimes I won’t be able to log into DDO because of a real-life event that I forgot about or another last minute activity that comes up, no biggie most of the time and I tend to be able to work around that.
What gets me however is when I try to move forward with one of my character’s questing career and my own designs and get foiled by occasional log in issues . This unfortunately occurred to me last night. Every weekday night (except for my date night) I have two hours of gaming time, from 10 pm to midnight. Depending on the character I’m running, this generally allows me to get caught up on character maintenance as well as to get at least one or two quests completed (depending on the character and level that I happen to be playing). But last night I ran into a combination of problems that I don’t generally have to often, especially together.
The first problem I had was with the “double-log” on issue. I had first tried to log into DDO with my premium account to quickly do my daily dice roll. After spending a number of minutes waiting to load in, the screen finally popped up my character with the dreaded red latency disconnect icon. So I closed out of DDO and logged right back in, without a problem, and did the daily dice roll then logged back out again. I then logged back onto with my VIP account, as I wanted to play Wapoyei (Level 23 Cleric/Exalted Angel). My original play wast to take Wapoyei into VON 4 Haywire’s Foundry on Epic Normal. When I logged in, Wapoyei was in Evenigstar so I checked his mail and posted some auctions and then headed back to the Eveningstar Cavern, where I waited, and waited, and waited, and waited some more. I unfortunately got suck on the load screen from Evenigstar proper to the Cavern. So I killed DDO and then relogged back in with Wapoyei. Now mind you, it is now about 10:45 pm.
So I went from the Evenigstar Cavern to the guild airship and had another long delay on the load screen but eventually I made it in. I was then able to get the guild buffs and then ran over to House K to break down some of returned auctions in the crafting halls. I then made it back to the entrance to VON 4. By the time I got everything said and done, it was 11:30 pm. I had lost a considerable amount of time waiting on the load screens . I decided to enter and run VON 4 anyway knowing that I wouldn’t have enough time to complete it.
Wapoyei eagerly fighting away in VON 4.
I was able to clear out the east and west rooms and to open up the northern passage to the main constructs but unfortunately I just didn’t have enough time to complete the quest. The loss of time with loading into the game and the long load screens really worked against me. I had also almost lost connection while inside the quest although the lag spike ended and everything reverted back to normal. Even though I didn’t complete the quest, I still earned over 10 k experience from the optionals I was able to complete so it wasn’t a complete loss, plus I did have fun while I was questing.
Oh well, although it was frustrating, it was still fun when I got to the questing. Wapoyei was handling himself perfectly fine which I was happy with. We’ll see how the next few days go . Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!
