Enjoying the Dual Boxing, Quest Runs October 26 to October 29

As I look back at the quest runs I did this week, I couldn’t help but notice that each day I did some dual boxing, from Monday to Thursday.  I don’t think I have noticed before and I have been back into dual boxing for a few weeks now.  Speaking of using dual boxing, I kicked off the quest runs this week by taking Containment (Level 7 Cleric), from my premium account, and Cannock (Level 7 Druid), from my VIP account, out into the lush jungles of Tangleroot Gorge for both of them to keep acquiring their slayers out there.  One thing I have noticed by dual boxing with Cannock and my characters on my premium account, is that he might actually max out the Tangleroot Slayer area before he finished out Waterworks.  I’ll guess we will have to wait and see how that hold out.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) out into the Sands of Menechtarun as he continues his march through the slayers out there, particularly focusing on the undead slayers at the moment as he makes his way to the 1,500 slayer mark.  To close out the night, I took Wapoyei (Level 24 Cleric/Divine Crusader) into the Underdark to locate the portal to Sschindylryn.  So it was definitely an “explorer” type day.

Tuesday started out with another slayer run.  This time I took Charlock (Level 15 Fighter) into the Red Fens.  In my afternoon run, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 22 Rogue/Fury of the Wild) and I took him out into the Inspired Quarter to try the quest In the Demon’s Den on elite.  I had only tried this quest once or twice before and it wasn’t on elite, so this was basically a new run for me.  I quickly found out that this particular quest is more challenging to complete on elite with some hirelings than I realized and wrote about that here.  Although I didn’t die, I did run out of time to complete this quest and was forced to recall out to make dinner.  I will have to take another stab at this quest this weekend :).  To close Tuesday night out, I logged on with Berann (Level 9 Barbarian) and set him up to dual box with Containment.  I took them both through the quest Rest for the Restless on Elite and then I took them out into Tangleroot Gorge and started the Assault on Splinterskull chain and completed the first three quests in the arc before I had to call it a night (First Strike, Hobgoblin’s Captives, and Yarkuch’s War-Plans).  While doing this, Berann hit level 9 :).

Wednesday I was presented with another chance to dual box.  I was scheduled to take Lorrikk (Level13 Monk) back into Sorrowdusk Isle to continue his slayers out there.  So, after I logged on with Lorrikk, I then logged on with Stoorage (Level 12 Fighter) from my premium account, and grouped the two together so they both could get some slayers from Sorrowdusk Isle.  They are both steadily progressing through this area.  In the afternoon, I logged back on with Hamllin who continued his monumental work in the desert.  I didn’t play that night, as it was date night with my wife.

To close out the week on Thursday, I logged on with Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) and Cannock and I took them into Three Barrel Cove because Crawlller is completely done out there now and has started the pirate hangout area of Three Barrel Cove.  In the afternoon, I was scheduled to take Erdrique into his first experience with the High Road.  After I picked up the quest Detour, I made my way into the High Road explorer area and then into the Greenweald Lane.  It was the first time I had seen this quest before and found it interesting.  I really liked the aspect of reading up on all of the mercenaries before we really started the quest.  Overall, Erdrique didn’t have many issues in the quest on heroic elite.  Later that night, I logged on with Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) and I took him through Spies in the House on epic normal.  I called it a night after that run.

So, as you can see I had quite a number of dual boxing quest runs this week.  This weekend will probably not be like that as I plan on playing Erdrique for the majority of the weekend and I don’t have any characters on my premium account who are that high in level.  I do plan on running the Night Revels this weekend, so we’ll how well I do there.  I hope everybody had a great week and I hope everybody has a terrific weekend as well.  Happy Halloween!! Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in Delera’s Graveyard this weekend!!

Nice Busy Weekend, Questing May 8th to May 10th

This past weekend was perhaps one of the more busy weekends I have had in awhile in DDO :).  I kicked everything off with a Friday morning slayer run with Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) who I took out into the pirate stronghold of Three Barrel Cove.  Harrgon is still quite away from maximizing the area out so I imagine I’ll be hunting in there with him for some time to come.  Continuing on with the pirate theme and Three Barrel Cove, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 9 Rogue) and took him through the slayer area as well and into the quest The Legend of Two-toed Tobias.  Later that night, I logged back on with Erdrique grouped up with Hellbanisher and Khamelblade and we stalked around the first two quest of the Delera’s Tomb chain: The Mystery of Delera’s Tomb and The Missing Party.  Hellbanisher had to call it a night after those runs, but Khamel and I pushed forward and completed Delera’s Tomb (Free Delera and The Thrall of the Necromancer) and then took down Dead Girl’s Spellbook as well.  We had to restart Free Delera because we had some issues with the third soul lock where the gate wouldn’t open up so that was a little disappointing.  Khamel and I called it a night after we made it through Dead Girl’s Spellbook.  However, I was able to reach level 9 prior to logging out while doing these runs :).

Saturday was even more busy.  I brought Erdrique back on and took him out into Tangleroot Gorge.  Prior to that, I spent some time working on configuring my gear since I had recently leveled up and had out grown the gear that previously had on.  I’m hoping this set of gear I have now will last me until level 11.  Once I got into the Gorge I preceded to maximize the area out, which I was able to, and then I headed off to complete the Assault of Splinterskull chain.  I wound up completing the Deadly Package: The Stronghold Key, The Deadly Package: Agent of Darguul, Doom of the Witchdoctor: The Way to Zulkash, Doom of the Witchdoctor: Zulkash, Herald of Woe, The Last Move: The Way to Yarkuck, and The Last Move: Yarkuch’s Last Stand.  Once I completed the chain, I then decided to run some Cannith Challenges and completed a run through Kobold Island: The Disruptor and The Lave Caves: Colossal Crystals.  I will still need to complete the Colossal Crystals a few more times to get enough jade scorpions to upgrade my Ring of the Stalker and Spare Hard when I hit level 11.  I then called it a night.

On Sunday, I was scheduled to play with Erdrique once again.  This time I took Erdrique back out into Three Barrel Cove and completed the quests Ghost of a Chance and the Scondrel’s Run on elite.  Once I completed those, I then logged on with Larrs (Level 20 Bard/Fatesinger).  I finally had a chance to catch up with him since major downtime event with Update 25, when I was supposed to play Larrs but couldn’t because servers were down.  I look Larrs through The Snitch on epic normal and then I called it a night.

So not a bad weekend of questing at all.  I got Erdrique moved up to level 9 and redid his gear and I was able to get back on track with my quest runs with Larrs.  Hoping to have just as much fun for next weeks runs :).  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Some More Interesting Banners

I’m not sure what it is with me and these banners or standards lately.  A little awhile ago I wrote about an interesting banner I noticed in the Catacombs and since then I have come across a couple more that I have found quite interesting, for one reason or another.

The first banner is probably more of a standard but I’m calling it a banner anyways.  It is the banner you see when you come across the hobgoblin outpost in Tangleroot Gorge.  The outpost marks the outlying boundary of the hobgoblins of Splinterskull.  The banner itself is consists of a deep red backdrop with a black line running down the center which occasionally breaks off in opposite directions to various spikes and curves on both sides.  The deep black line is then bordered by a thinner yellow line.  The banner is hanging off of post that is accentuated by a large humanoid skull.  I’m not sure why I find this banner interesting.  I just think the mixture of colors, the sharp design of the black line, and of course the skulls just symbolized a very strong and confident, and downright evil, clan of beings.  That is probably something a banner should do.

photo Containment looking around Tangleroot Gorge_zpspxczh4uk.jpg
Containment in the Gorge taking note of the banner representing Splinterskull and its hobgoblins.

The second banner is more intriguing to me.  I noticed this banner when I was taking Erdrique through the great quest, Partycrashers.  As you make your way through the Illusionarium and then into the Chapter House you may seen a beautiful banner hanging on the wall alongside one of the fountains.  The banner depicts a couple serpents entwined with another in the center on a dark backdrop that is bordered by a lighter purplish color.  Along the border on each side is a red line in a swirly design.  Beneath the serpents is what appears to be some type of an anvil or bush or possibly a creature of some sort with a sword thrust into it.  Above the serpents is a leaf shaped symbol.  I believe the symbol with the serpents has something to do with the Mark of Shadows, but I’m not entirely sure what the other figures represent.  Actually after looking at the Eberron Wiki it looks like the bottom symbol might be the Siberys version of the Mark of Shadows.  In either case, it is a great banner to portray the intrigue that surrounds House Phiarlan and its network of spies and assassins.

Erdrique Had a Busy Weekend, Quest Runs November 7th to 9th

Usually my weekends are heavily loaded with questing activities centered around Erdrique (Level 8 Monk) who is my primary character.  However, this weekend was even more dominated by Erdrique.  The only other character I ran this past weekend was  Containment (Level 5) who is working on some slayer runs.  Containment is currently working on Tangleroot Gorge.  I usually do those slayer runs in the morning but I was running behind on Friday morning and didn’t get a chance to do that run until I did my afternoon questing when I got back home from work.  After I took Containment through Tangleroot Gorge, I then switched to Erdrique.

During my afternoon room, I took Erdrique into Gladewatch Outpost.  I entered in on elite and was surprised by the amount of trouble I had.  The hobgoblins and their worg minions quickly caused a green alert but I was able to hold them off with my cleric hireling.  Later that night, I took Erdrique through a number of quests.  I first took him out into Tangleroot Gorge, as he was also working on that explorer area.  After collecting some slayers out there, I then moved to complete the House Deneith Depths quests: Depths of Despair, Depths of Discord, and Depths of Doom.  I then decided to finish up the House Phiarlan Carnival Series and headed into Partycrashers, The Snitch, and then Under the Big Top.  However, I didn’t bring a rogue with me and I perished horribly during two failed saves on one of the wheels.  I didn’t feel like trying it again but I did head into one of the Cannith Challenges before I called it a night and took on Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Behind the Door.  I moved through it relatively quickly and was happy to get a good number of Anitique Coins from the run because of the extra challenge bonus.  At that point I called it a night.

On Saturday, the first thing I did was to take Erdrique into two more Cannith Challenges: Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Behind the Door and then I tried the challenge the Lava Caves: Circles of Power.  It had been a long time since I did anything in the Lava Caves and I found it very interesting dealing with the drow and their pet scorpions.  I completed both challenges and then decided to run Under the Big Top again to complete the Carnival Series.  This time I brought a rogue hireling with me and the quest went smoothly.  I then headed out to Tangleroot Gorge and to do some more slayers and to continue on to the Assault of Splinterskull.  I then completed all the quests from the Deadly Package up to Yarkuch’s Last Stand.  By the time I hit Yarkuch’s Last Stand, my guild buffs had run out and the lovely worgs decided to take me time with a number of trip attacks.  Needless to say, I suffered another defeat.  It was getting late by that time so I called it a night.

On Sunday, I logged back on with Erdrique and decided to finish up the Tangleroot Gorge explorer area and to finish up Assault on Splinterskull.  This time I was much more prepared for Yarkuch and his minions and didn’t have any problem completing the quest this time.  After those runs I headed out to Barrel’s Bottom and Three Barrel Cove.  I went ahead and took on the quest Guard Duty on elite and then moved into the Three Barrel Cove adventure area and made me way to the Fire Caves.  I made my way there and completed the quest The Stones Run Red on elite.  I wasn’t quite prepared for the amount of experience I received, as I needed about another 10 k to be forced to level.  Well, I received over 18 k!!  Talk about a change.  So needless to say I called it a night with Erdrique ready to level up to 8 :).

So the runs this weekend were almost entirely all with Erdrique.  I had a fun time taking him through a few of the chains and enjoyed finishing up Tangleroot Gorge.  Now it is time to take on Three Barrel Cove :).  I hope everybody else had a nice weekend as well! Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting.

What is the Deal with Yarkuch and Spiders?

So once again I was running Assault on Splinterskull this past weekend and I started to wonder about Yarkuch and his apparent fascination with spiders.  I’m trying to come up with some reasoning as to why he enjoys augmenting his forces with monstrous spiders.  As soon as you enter Splinterskull, the first set of enemies you encounter are not hobgoblins but spiders.  Then, as you continue your assault, you encounter more fearsome and dangerous spiders including Blood-drinker, Whisperdoom’s Daughter, and Whisperdoom herself.

 photo Spidersandmorespiders_zps47d4027a.jpg
Erdrique wondering what is the deal with Yarkuch and his spiders.

So how exactly did Yarkuch get so fascinated with spiders to begin with?  How in the world did he ever get associated with Whisperdoom?  I would figure a hobgoblin would be more in favor of using worgs to supplement his forces.  Although worgs are indeed present in Splinterskull they don’t seem to have the same amount of respect as the spiders.  The spiders seem to be completely independent, where as the worgs are always associated with regular hobgoblin troops.  It is like the worgs are “pets” while the spiders are more like forces.  This is probably due strictly to the influence of Whisperdoom.  She just holds that majestic influence, that awe of respect, power, and strength that just seems to captivate everybody, allies and enemies alike.  Perhaps these are just the attributes that Yarkuch sees in all monstrous spiders, therefore increasing his desires to gather and/or recruit as many forces into army.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Yarkuch encountered some of Whisperdoom’s horde, or even Whisperdoom herself, when he was making his rise to power.  He probably even witnessed a number of his fellow hobgoblins get devoured by these spiders, just enhancing his respect for them.  Then containing the strength and wisdom within himself to approach Whisperdoom and to convince her to work with him probably impressed her, not to mention she probably saw a way to profit from the association (for example by allowing Zulkash to enhance the power of her brood (aka the glass spiders)).

Not to mention, what else can be more scary to deal with than huge, vicious spiders?  They are the perfect monster to enhance your troops and their presence alone would just instill fear and trepidation to invading forces, except for our characters of course :).

I’m not sure Yarkuch could have selected a monster that instills more fear than huge spiders.  I can definitely understand his desire to use them.  So that is my theory, he somehow came across Whisperdoom, in one way or another, and was fascinated by her and her brood.  The question is how did this interaction actually occur.  I’m not sure but in either case the union was quite lethal and powerful as well.

Well, thanks for reading everybody and I hope everybody enjoys taking on the forces of Yarkuch and Whisperdoom in Splinterskull.  Happy hunting everybody!!

A Weekend of Quest Runs, October 31 to November 2

This weekend, my questing actually started with some questing in Neverwinter Nights II.  For my morning slayer run, I took Ragnar (Level 5 Spirit Shaman) further into the city of Neverwinter and learned a little more about the storyline in the Opening Campaign.  However, later that afternoon I logged into DDO with Hamllin (Level 10 Fighter) and took him into the Red Fens.  While in there, I took him into the final quest out there, Into the Deep.  I went in on elite and everything started out very well as I made me way through the first temple perfectly fine but in the second temple I got distracted and before I knew it my hireling had died and then I followed quickly behind it.  Thats what I get I guess for chatting with my guildies through guild chat while they were in the Crystal Cove, lol.  I will just have to take it on again next week.  On Friday night, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 6 Monk) and was soon joined up with Mohog and we tackled the quests Freshen the Air, Proof is in the Poison, Tomb of the Burning Heart, and Tomb of the Sanguine Heart.  We started these after I spent a good amount of time doing some crafting in the Cannith Crafting Hall.  The quests went smoothly and I was pleased as I put all of them up in the LFM panel and a got a few hits, even though we weren’t receiving the bravery bonus.  Overall it was a nice night.

On Saturday, I logged on with Erdrique and took him into Tangleroot Gorge and completed the next two quests in the Assault on Splinterskull chain: Yarkuch’s Warplans and Whisperdoom’s Spawn.  After that, I took Erdrique to House Phiarlan and ran the quest Rest for the Restless.  Once Rest for the Restless was completed, I headed back out to the Necropolis and completed the quest Tomb of the Immortal Heart  which was the last flagging quest I needed to flag for the The Bloody Crypt.  I then went to House Kundarak and tackled the quest The Lair of Summoning.  After battling the end fire elemental I headed back to House Phiarlan and started the Carnival Series with A Small Problem.  I then ended the night with a run through the Cannith Challenge-Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Behind the Door.  So Saturday night was an extremely efficient night for me as I took Erdrique thought that series of quests.

On Sunday, I logged on with Kolll (Level 21 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) and was joined by Rameses. We decided to take on the Blood Tide Pirates and went into Storm the Beaches on Epic Normal.  After battling the destructive the ballistae, we made our way into the fortress and took out the dimensional anchor and the orc boss.  This particular run was much easier than our first attempt previous in the week, however we did get blown up once or twice.  After we completed Storm the Beaches, we then headed to the House Deneith Tower and entered the quest The Tide Turns on epic normal as well.  We had a fun time taking out Captain Tew and “Ratty.”  After that run, we called it a night.

So it was a nice weekend in terms of hitting some quests up with Erdrique.  However, I didn’t get anymore runs through the Crystal Cove.  I guess I will have to finish up those runs sometime in the future.  In any case, it was a fun weekend :).  I hope everybody else had a great weekend and happy hunting!!

It Was A Cove Style Weekend, Quest Runs October 24th to October 26th

Well, this past weekend I surprised myself.  I didn’t plan on running a whole lot in the Crystal Cove, although I did plan on running some out there because it is a special event that doesn’t come along all that often, but I wound up running it much more than I thought.  Then again, dropping the number of map piece turn-ins to 500 help to make that happen.  In any case I ran the Crystal Cove five times over the weekend.  However, my weekend runs didn’t actually start inside the Crystal Cove.

My weekend runs started with my typical morning slayer runs on Friday.  I brought on a character on my premium account, Suppply (Level 8 Paladin), and took him out into Three Barrel Cove to continue on his march of dominance of the local pirates.  That afternoon, I brought on Erdrique (Level 6 Monk) and completed the Sharn Syndicate series by finishing the quest Come Out and Slay.  I then took Erdrique out into Irestone Inlet and took on Yar-yar and his crew.  I then took Erdrique back into the Waterworks Slayer area and finished that zone.  On Friday night, I started out in the Smuggler’s Rest and then did a few runs in the Crystal Cove.  I had some help from Luchog and from Leefist as we ran around collecting map pieces and doubloons.  I then took Erdrique out into Tangleroot Gorge and started the Assault on Splinterskull chain.  I completed the first two quests in the chain: First Strike and the Hobgoblin’s Captives.  I then headed to the Marketplace and took on the quest Red Fang. I then completed one more run in the Crystal Cove before I called it a night.

On Saturday, I did some slayers in the Tangleroot Gorge slayer area and then I did a run through the Crystal Cove.  Later that night, I took Erdrique into the Cerulean Hills and completed the quest The Captives.  I then made my way back to the Marketplace and into the Steam Tunnels to do the quest The Sacred Helm.  I then took Erdrique into one of the Cannith Challenges and ran the challenge: Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Behind the Door.  I then took him back out to Smuggler’s Rest for another run in the Crystal Cove and then ended the night with some slayer runs in Tangleroot Gorge.

Sunday was a relatively light gaming session.  I was scheduled to log in with Crawlller (Level 6 Ranger), another one of my premium account characters.  The first thing I wanted to do was to do some quick slayer runs with him in Tangleroot Gorge.  I entered the explorer area and I was later joined by Xahtep, a reader of my blog .  We blasted through the explorer zone twice and Crawlller wound up reaching over 750 slayers and he received enough experience to hit level 6.  Xahtep then had to log but I just wanted to pass along that I enjoyed his help!!  After the turns through Tangleroot, I took Crawlller out into the Cerulean Hills and ran the quest Where There’s Smoke on Hard.  I then took Crawlller into House Cannith and got his daily challenge token and ran through the challenge Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Behind the Door.  By the time I finished the run, it was time to head off to bed.

So, the weekend runs were primarily lower level runs, with a decent about of Crystal Cove activity splayed throughout the weekend.  Not my most productive weekend but it was still a fun weekend .  I hope everybody else had a nice weekend as well!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!
