Some More Pondering About Crystals

As I mentioned in my last blog, one of the quests I recently completed with Hamllin (Level 15 Fighter) was the Cannith Challenge, Extraplanar Palace: Buying Time.  If you aren’t familiar with this quest, it is based off of the special event, The Treasure of Crystal Cove.  The idea of the quest is to protect a team of kobold miners so that they can gather up purple and green crystals.  You also have to lead the kobold miners using special torches to the stashes of crystals.  To complete the quest, the kobolds need to turn in a certain number of crystals within a specified amount of time.

However, something struck me odd about these crystals.  When you run through the quest you realize that you cannot pick the crystals up yourself.  Only the kobolds can pick them up and haul them away to the foreman.  Now why is this?  Is there some type of enchantment put on the crystals that don’t allow your characters to interact with them?

 photo Pretty Crystals_zps3caxxjnu.jpg
Hamllin wondering why he can’t pick up the crystals.

I actually just think our characters our just overly mean and feel that “mining crystals” is beneath them and they are too good to do kobold work myself.  Or it could be that the crystals are so magically enhanced that it takes specially trained kobolds to harvest them.  Yeah we’ll go with that one..lol.

Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Extraplanar Palace!!

Variety of Questing This Week, November 10th to November 13th

This week, I ran quite a variety of quests and slayer zones.  As usual, my questing began with my Monday morning slayer run.  This Monday, I was scheduled to run Charlock (Level 13 Fighter) who I took out into the Red Fens.  That afternoon I logged on with Hamllin (Level 13 Fighter) who I took into the quest Hiding in Plain Sight on elite.  I had actually put up this run in the LFM panel and was joined by one other as we took down Hazadill and his goons .  Later that night, while I was working on my digital PNP game, I logged on with Lorrikk (Level 11 Monk) and took him through the quest the Haunted Library on elite.

Tuesday was a unique day which resulted in me getting more questing done than normal.  This was because Tuesday was Veteran’s Day which meant I had the day off .  So, after taking my wife out to eat for breakfast, I logged in with Lorrikk once again, as I was scheduled to take him through Sorrowdusk Isle for my morning slayer run.  I then logged on with Erdrique (Level 8 Monk) and took him out into the wilds of Three Barrel Cove.  While marauding the wilderness zone, I took the opportunity to finish up the Fire Caves and ran the quest Brood of Flame.  After making my way through those fire mephits and elementals, I then headed over to the The Legend of Two-toed Tobias and then over to the quest Prove Your Worth.  I completed all of them on elite without problems.  On Tuesday night, I logged on with Garrrin (Level 21 Barbarian/Fury of the Wild) and took him through Under the Big Top on Epic Normal (which I wrote about here), and then I took him out over the Cannith Challenge Extraplanar Palace: Buying Time and then I took him over to quest The Last Stand on Epic Normal in the Red Fens.  The Last Stand, I had completed on a few other characters, but I was still curious to see how well Garrrin would handle himself in this quest.  He did really well and I don’t believe I was ever in trouble in failing the quest.  After that run I called it a night.

Wednesday was a light day of questing for me, as usual. In the morning, I took Crawlller (Level 6 Ranger) out into Tangleroot Gorge to do hunt down some slayers.  That afternoon, I then logged on with Hamllin and took him out to Ataraxia’s Haven and hit up the quest Reclamation on elite.  However, this was the one hiccup in my questing this week.  I was running though in time, and although I have tried this before, I figured it could try it again and try to zerge through this quest.  However, I only made it past the first foreman.  When I made it to the second foreman I misjudged the number of duergar in the room and was quickly overwhelmed.  So the next time I log in with Hamllin for a mid-day run I will need to get my revenge .  That was the final run for me for the day as the rest of the night I spent with my wife for date night.

For Thursday, I took Berann (Level 7 Barbarian) into the Waterworks for some kobold hunting.  Lather that afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique and I took him back out into Three Barrel Cove and completed all of the rare encounters and then headed into the quest, Ghost of a Chance.  I completed it on elite without many issues.  One thing I definitely can say, after completed all of the level 5 quests out in Three Barrel Cove, is that the experience has really been raised quite a bit out there which is really nice .  I was scheduled to play Cantlin (Level 11 Sorcerer) on Thursday night who I took into Sorrowdusk Isle and completed the last two quests of the Grey Moon story arc: The Grey Moon’s Den: Trollish Scourge and the Grey Moon’s Den: Extermination.  I had a slight problem with The Grey Moon’s Den: Trollish Scourge as I got killed moving through the powerful force trap that protects the bridge at the end of the quest to get the last two trolls to spawn.  However, besides that the quests went really well.

So as you can tell, it was pretty fun week.  I played characters ranging from level 6 all way to level 21 and took on stand alone quests as well as quests from common adventure packs.  I hope everybody else had a good time as well .  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting over the weekend!!

Primarily Low Level Questing With One Epic Run, Questing Over October 13th to October 16th

The questing for me this week was dominated with runs with my new druid, Cannock (Level 7), some more runs with Erdrique (Level 4 Monk) and Hamllin (Level 12 Fighter).  I did get one epic level quest run with Rimuldar (Level 23 Wizard/Magister) as well.

The week started with a Monday morning slayer run with Containment (Level 5) who finished up his Waterworks Slayers and then moved onto to start his domination of Tangleroot Gorge.  Later that afternoon, I logged on with Hamllin and took him back out into Sorrowdusk Isle and completed the quest The Sanctum: The Church and the Fury which was the last quest in the Cult of Six story arc.  For Monday night, I logged on with my newest character, Cannock, and took him through “The Voyage” and raised him up to level 7.  I then took him out into Korthos and completed the quests Heyton’s Rest, The Storehouse Secret, The Cannith Crystal, The Collaborator, Redemption, and some Korthos Island Slayers.  Even though I was over level, I also go back and run theses quest for the favor.  After hitting those up, I called it a night.

I was scheduled to play Charlock (Level 13 Fighter) on Tuesday morning for my slayer run so I brought him and out into Sorrowdusk Isle and finished that explorer zone.  Charlock is now ready to head out into the Red Fens.  My afternoon run was with Erdrique who I took into the Depths of Darkness.  Unfortunately I was running behind and that was the only quest I get in for my mid-day afternoon run.  Tuesday night, I logged on with Rimuldar.  Rimuldar was working on finishing up the Sands of Menechtarun quests on epic normal.  He only needed the quest, Against the Demon Queen, to finish all of the quests on epic normal before he moves onto the next set of quests.  The quest run went very well and I wrote about it here.  It was one of my more enjoyable runs in the epic setting so far.  After I took Rimudlar through the Court of Lailat, I then headed off to House Cannith and ran the challenge Buying Time on level 20 for some of the heroic ingredients.   I had no major issues in there, but I did actually get killed but I was still able to complete the quest.  After the run through Buying Time, I headed off to bed.

Wednesday morning I was scheduled to start the day with Lorrikk (Level 11 Monk) and I took him out into the Searing Heights.  Lorrikk is nearly done with the Searing Heights, he only needs one last rare encounter (Guck) and he will be finished with the area and will be moving to Sorrowdusk Isle.  When I got home from work, I logged on with Hamllin and took him into the last parts of the Ruins of Threnal: Entering the Gate Chamber and The Gate Chamber.  While running through Entering the Gate Chamber, I just realized even more how much slimes and rust monsters annoy me…  I didn’t run anything Wednesday night because it was date night with the misses :).

For Thursday, the day started out with me logging in with Crawlller (Level 5 Ranger) and I took him out into Tangleroot Gorge.  I was lucky enough to have another player join my party post in the LFM panel during my run through of explorer area which allowed us to power through the explorer area twice before I needed to head to work.  I didn’t log into the game for a mid-day run, as I took my wife out for a little celebration (she was accepted into a new college) but I did log in Thursday night with Erdrique and I took him through the last two quests in the Catacombs: Endgame: Marguerite and Endgame: Archbishop’s Fate.  After that,  I logged on with Containment and took him through Home Sweet Sewer, Kobold Assault (normal and hard), and into the Cannith Challenge Behind the Door.  For the challenge, I didn’t quite complete the quest as I ran out of time before I got to one of the boss monsters, however I did kill the Mother of the Nest and earned a supply chest.  After those runs, I called it a night.

To sum up the questing for the week, it was centered around low level and mid level runs with a very fun epic run on Tuesday night.  It was a good of questing!!  I hope you all had a strong week as well :).  Thanks for reading and happy hunting everybody!!

A Diversity of Quests, Adventures October 6 to October 9

My quest runs this week were quite diverse.  I began this week with some questing in Neverwinter Nights II Original Campaign where I took my Spirit Shaman (Ragnar, Level 5) through the ruins of High Cliff and now his little band has made their way to the city of Neverwinter.  I did that early on Monday morning prior to work.  I didn’t get a chance to run anything Monday afternoon because I had some real life activities to take care of.  But on Monday night, while also playing during our weekly digital PNP game, I brought on Erdrique (Level 3 Monk) and took him into The Smuggler’s Warehouse, Recovering the Lost Tome, Missing in Action, and some slayers in the Cerulean Hills.  After those runs I called it a night.

During Tuesday, I logged on with Kanndar (Level 11 Paladin) and started the day with a slayer run through the Searing Heights.  Kanndar was able to max out his slayers but he still needs one more rare encounter before he is done with that slayer area.  Because of a meeting at work, I didn’t get a chance to do my typical afternoon run again.  But I did log in Tuesday night with Lorrikk (Level 11 Monk).  The first thing I worked on was the Cannith Challenge Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Behind the Door, in which case I was actually able to take out Dr. Rushmore and Ugg.  After that run, I took him into Gwylan’s Stand on elite and had a good time making my way through that classic quest.

Wednesday morning I logged on with Harrgon (Level 10 Favored Soul) and took him out into Tangleroot Gorge for some simple slayer runs that morning.  But, do to yet another meeting, I didn’t get my afternoon runs in and so that was the only run I was able to do .

Cantlin (Level 11 Sorcerer) was my next character scheduled for a slayer run, so I logged him in where he finished up all of the slayers and rares in the Searing Heights.  He then moved over to continue to work in Sorrowdusk Isle.  After doing some hunting in those explorer zones, I then logged out and headed off to work.  This time I was actually able to get in an afternoon run.  I took Hamllin (Level 12 Fighter) into the Shadow Crypt.  Although the Shadow Crypt can be annoying, it does give a ton of experience.  I completed the Shadow Crypt with little difficulty and was able to collect enough gears to open up the extra chest at the end and even being a level higher than the CR of the quest (so I didn’t get the additional bravery bonus experience) I still wound up getting over 40,000 experience (including the optional names I encountered).  I logged out after that run and logged back in with Garrrin (Level 21 Barbarian).  Garrrin is currently working on the Phiarlan Carnival series on epic, so he battled The Snitch and had little difficulty.  Continuing my push to run some challenges, I then took him into the Cannith Challenge Extraplanar Palace: Buying Time.   I went in on level 20 because I was looking for regular mephit wings.  I had fun time directing the kobolds and took down the Marilith and the Rhaksasha but got ported out when I was battling the Hag.  I still had gathered enough shards so I was happy with that result.  After that, I called it a night.

To sum up the week, it was quite a diverse week  I ran some low level adventures, ran some challenges, took on a epic quest, and hit up some slayers.  I good questing week indeed!!  Thanks for reading everybody and I hope everybody has had a good week and will have a good weekend!!  Happy hunting!!

Questing over the Weekend, September 26 to 28

The questing this past weekend began with a slayer run through Tangleroot Gorge with Hamllin (Level 11 Fighter).  Now I realize that Hamllin is getting very little out of this explorer area but I like to them maxed out prior to moving to the next one.  Hamllin still needs one more rare encounter out there and is currently working on his last slayer mark then he can move to Three Barrel Cove, Searing Heights, Sorrowdusk Isle and then to the Red Fens.  I think I just need to do some more slayer runs with him just to catch him back up.  I was able to stay on top of these more efficiently with Erdrique, mainly because I would run them on the weekends prior to hitting up any quests.  Looks like I need to do this with Hamllin as well.

Nice overlook of Tangleroot Gorge photo NiceoverlookofTanglerootGorge_zps8dce3607.jpg
Hamllin overlooking the river in Tangleroot Gorge.

My questing continued on Friday afternoon when I got back home from work with Erdrique who I took into the Servants of the Overlord.  I attempted to run the Servants of the Overlord on elite using just my animal companion (Fang), my owlbear defender, and a hireling cleric.  The first few fights were brutal but I did make it past them.  However, as it was getting later than I wanted for an afternoon run, I got reckless and forgot to take a few of the enemies from a distance and instead dumped down a pit that you can’t get back up on and got devastated by a few hellhounds, a couple rhaksashas, and a couple hezerous.  So I called it for now having at least taken out the named fire reaver.  However, on Friday night I logged back on with Erdrique and I was joined with Helllinna and we both tackled Servants of the Overlord and although we ran into a few problems, it was much more successful and we completed it on elite :).  We then headed out to the Vale of Twilight and ran Let the Sleeping Dust Lie.  After that ran Helllinna and I both called it a night.

On Saturday, I logged Erdrique back on and I took him out into the Sands of Menechtarun to finish my 1,500 scorrow slayer mark.  After I hit that mark, I then decided to hit up some of the Cannith Challenges, as I haven’t been out in those in quite some time.  So I took Erdrique to House Cannith and ran the challenge quest Buying Time on Level 18.  Not surprisingly, I failed during my first attempt because somehow the foreman got killed.  However, the second go round was much more efficient and when I killed the named rhaksasha I received over 8,000 experience which raised me to the Heroic Level cap.  And then shortly later I completed the quest.  I think I’m going to try to run a challenge at least once a night with my characters to collect enough ingredients to buy guild renown elixirs if nothing else.  But I have to say it was good to run it again.  After than run, I then took Erdrique to the guild ship and to the crafting hall and started to prep him for his next Heroic Reincarnation.  After dabbling around with his inventory and bank space, I called it a night.

Sunday was an extremely light day.  I was catching up on a number of guild related things (drafting up the Crypt Crawler weekly newsletter, uploading things to the Crypt Crawler Guild Portal Website, writing up a blog post on Erd’s Druid life, etc..) so I didn’t get a whole lot of actual questing in.  However, I did log in with Suppply (Level 8 Paladin) and I took him to the quest Rest for the Restless and ran it on normal and hard before I called it a night.

So the weekend was an exciting one because I hit level 20 Erdrique :).  I’m not getting ready to take him to the Reincarnation Grove so that I can start his next life as a monk.  I hope everybody else had a nice weekend as well and I hope this week will be just as fun with the release of Update 23: The Mark of Death.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Just stand still!!

Originally posted on my GuildPortal Blog on June 22, 2013: http://www.guildportal.com/Me/540050797/span/2013/6

This is just me wining more than anything else, lol.  Last night after Hellsheals and Erdrique ran a few of the quests from the Harbinger of Madness chain (Missing and Fear Factory) and two runs through Litany of the Dead (a little bit of a frustration their) and after Hellsheals logged for the night, I took Erdrique into House Cannith to run a challenge (wanted to get some benefit of the current feature for the DDO Bonus days ).  I chose to run Buying Time on Level 18 (since Erdrique is currently that level).

So I entered the Planar Palace and summoned my hireling (a level 18 Favored Soul) and brought forth my mind flayer from the Shard of Exoriat.  Luckily, I had a favorable map.  My little make shift party were able to protect the kobolds and collect 100 crystals with little difficulty.  In fact, the crystals were collected with over a minute and a half left to spare.  So I ran back to the Kobold Foreman to extend the time limit to see if I could get more stars and more awards.

Well, unfortunately my timing was a little off.  I has hoping to talk to him as soon as I hit 100 crystals because as soon as that mark is hit, the marilith will spawn.  Well, the marilith spawned and just when I went to extend the time I realized that the foreman was running around willy nilly trying to get away from her.  I tried several more times to extend the time…but he just wouldn’t stand still….so I decided to focus on the Marilith in the hopes I could take her down fast enough and still add more time.  Well I wasn’t able to do either, I didn’t get killed by she had a sliver of health left when I got ported out of the quest and the time had expired so I didn’t get any more chances to advance the quest.  Lesson to me, keep up with your timing better!! LOL

Well at least I was able to complete the quest
