Another Set of Quest Runs, February 19 to 25

My questing this week was relatively light once again :(.  This was because of a few work related activities that kept me from logging in on Wednesday and Thursday.  Wednesday night is also my weekly date night with my wife so I don’t log into the game for a typical night run but I usually get a chance to run a slayer prior to dinner.  This week though, an ex-coworker of mine retired and his retirement party was on Wednesday and Thursday I was traveling all day and was just too tired to log in.

But, I did get some questing in during the rest of the week.  On Sunday, I logged on with Kanndar (Level 14 Paladin) and I took him into the Ruins of Threnal.  I was running a little short on time and decided to go ahead and complete the set of quests known as the Giant Caves: The Giants’ Lair, The Giants; Supplies, and The Giant Lieutenants.  During these runs, Kanndar picked up a monster manual deed for hill giant hunter which netted him 1,179 experience.

Monday, I took Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Fatesinger) into the Ruins of Gianthold (Heroic) while I was playing during my weekly digital pen and paper session.  Hamllin collected 80 Storm Fist slayers, 99 Storm Heart slayers, and 116 Storm Eye slayers.  He also came across the rare encounters Zakaya Master Ragath, Expedition Leader Brazwold, Tarmer Stonehoof, Lord Cirrus, and Clan Chief Ogh.

I started off on Tuesday by dual boxing with Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) and Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and did a slayer run in Three Barrel Cove.  They collected 104 slayers during that run and came across the rare encounters for Strinati, Dybesh Relix, Chortle, Brine, and Ithun Orenah.  After that run, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 11 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 12 Rogue)  and I took them into the quest Stromvauld’s Mine.  While in there they completed the optional objectives to slay Milos Baran, Boro Charidan, and Degren Marzat.  For my nightly run, I logged on with Charlock (Level 16 Fighter) and I was joined by Hellfiend and we decided to tackle the Slave Pits of the Undercity on heroic elite.  Charlock collected two monster manual deeds, one for ghast hunter (9,439 experience) and one for rat hunter (1,887 experience).  I’m still learning that quest and so is Hellfiend so it isn’t too surprising to learn that we got roasted in the massive fire trap room.  So we didn’t get the quest completed but we’ll knock it out next time.

Friday night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen, once again, and this time I took into the Xorian Cipher.  To get to the Xorian Cipher, I first completed The Path to Madness on elite and in so doing, Erdrique collected nine mysterious remnants.  While in the Xorian Cipher, Erdrique picked up a monster manual deed for scorrow hunter for 2,260 experience.  Erdrique and Sttollen completed the optional objectives for finding and entering the vault, sealing all of the rifts, and taking out Deathfang, Mastart Markud, Urtyan Markud, and the Vault Guardian.  In the vault, Sttollen picked up a mythic version of the Chaosgarde and a Reaver’s Ring.  Meanwhile, Erdrique picked up a Planar Gird and a mythic version of the Chaos Band.  Erdrique also collected 12 mysterious remnants.

To close out the week, Erdrique and Sttollen started things out by dual boxing Sorrowdusk Isle.  They collected 114 slayers and they both hit the 200 slayer mark as well as finding the rare encounters: Saate, Thanolin, Barxer, and Noozer.  A little while later, I logged on with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) to get the data I need for my monster manual analysis but after I did that, I took him out into  Tangleroot Gorge because I still have yet to finish that explorer are for him.  While out there, Kolll picked up a monster manual deed for wolf exterminator II and received 1,650 experience.  He also took out Gharjat, Jarak, and Silkweave.  Later on Saturday night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen again and I was joined by Sornea.  I have been trying to get some help with the Temple of Elemental Evil Part 1 and this time I had it :).  So we headed to the Hall of Heroes and then to the Temple.  Erdrique picked up another monster manual deed, this one human exterminator III for 1,695 experience.  He also picked up 27 mysterious remnants.  We had a few deaths but we did complete the quest and completed the optional objectives for 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 slayers.  After that we called it a night.

So overall the week was a little shorter than usual but still productive.  I was really grateful for Sornea’s help in getting through the Temple of Elemental Evil.  Now all I need to do is get through the second part :).  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in DDO!!

The Week in Review, February 5th to 11th

Taking a look back at my quests this week, I realized that it was a lighter than normal week for me.  I didn’t kicked off my quest runs until Monday.  I started out with a slayer run where I took Kanndar (Level 13 Paladin) and Stoorage (Level 15 Fighter) into the Red Fens for some slayers during one of my many dual boxing efforts.  During that run, Kanndar picked up 99 slayers while Stoorage collected 123 (Stoorage was running a minor or a lesser slayer count boost).  They also came across the rare encounters: Kar Xyr, Vyx Ka, and Gorger.  Shortly after that run, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Shadowdancer) and I took him into the quest Demon Assault on heroic elite.  In the past, I have had a number of difficulties in here, even at level 20, because of my cleric hireling being just swarmed.  In this run, I actually did complete it however it was pretty rough.  I  suffered eight deaths and had to re-enter twice.  But it is now done!!  I also picked up a monster manual deed for Glaberzou hunter.  To close out the night, I logged on with Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) and Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and I thought them into Three Barrel Cove for some simple explorers, slayers, and rares because I was also playing our digital table top game.  They both picked up 230 slayers with Crawlller hit his 750 slayer mark.  They came across the rare encounters for Ilmarin Tychonn, Ithun Orenah, Vitia,  Thrum, Brine, Dulse, and Strinati.  Cannock looted the Sky Pirate’s Dagger during that run.  I called it a night after that.

I logged on Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and Suppply (Level 11 Paladin) and I took them hunting into Sorrowdusk Isle.  They collected 116 slayers and Harrgon picked up the rest of the explorer points.  They also came across Barxer and Saate.  After than run, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 11 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 12 Rogue) and I took them into Tangleroot Gorge and completed the Assault on Splinterskull story arc by completing The Last Move: The Way to Yarkuch and The Last Move: Yarkuch’s Last Stand.  I completed the optional objective for slaying Warmaster Muurj.  To close out the night, I logged with Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and I took him into Tomb of the Wizard King on epic normal.  Larrs picked up a monster manual deed for clay golum hunter (2,350 experience) and he also picked up scrolls for the Mummy Wrappings and Dustless Boots.  He also collected 52 fragments of the Token of the Twelve and received 11 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  He also completed the optional objectives for slaying all of the guardians, the eternal gatekeepers, and breaking into the vault.

I didn’t log into game again until Thursday when I dual boxed with Cantlin (Level 13 Sorcerer) and Stoorage and took them into the Red Fens for some slayers.  Cantlin picked up a monster manual deed for sahaugin exterminator (353 experience) and hit the 100 slayer mark.  Cantlin picked up 61 slayers while Stoorage received 76.  They also came across Sharkbiter, Beacon, and Riptide.  I then logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and dual boxed again and took them through The Grey Moon’s Den: The Trollish Scourge.  They collected nine slayers on the way to the quest and Erdrique picked up two monster manual deeds: troll exterminator I (423 experience) and troll hunter (2,034 experience).  They also collected the optional objectives for defeating all of the ogre collaborators and Shaman Herpostaw.  I didn’t get a chance to log in that night and didn’t log back in until Saturday.

On Saturday, I spent quite a bit of time working on some Cannith Crafting with Erdrique.  By the time I was done, I only had enough time to run one quest.  So I logged on Sttollen as well and took them both into Gwylan’s Stand on elite.  They made it through the quest without any issues but they only picked up one optional named monster: Maneater.  Sttollen did pick up the Roguebane Breastplate and they both picked up Gwylan’s Blade.

So overall it was a lighter week but the spread of quest runs was nice.  Had some runs through a few explorer areas, an epic quest run, and some more quests for Hammy and Erdrique.  Now time to move onto next week :)!!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Starting off 2017 with Some Questing

I have been writing up short summaries of my quest runs for quite a while now.  I mainly do this to highlight the various types of quest there are in DDO and for me to help track my own progress over time.  I used to do compile two blogs a week to highlight these runs, one blog post would track my questing from Mondays to Thursdays and the second post would highlight my questing from Friday through Sunday.  With the start of the new year I want to continue the general thoughts of summarizing my questing runs but I want to one post to cover the week. Of course, this blog will cover two weeks, since I didn’t get a chance to do one last week :(.

To start the new year off, I took Erdrique  (Level 10 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 11 Rogue) through Mirra’s Sleepless Nights, Purge the Herectics, Sorrowdusk Isle, The Iron Mines: Freeing Achka, and The Iron Mines: Justice for Grust.  While making my way through Mirra’s Sleepless Nights I completed the optional for locating and destroying the source of the wailing.  In Purge the Heretics, I completed the optional objectives to slaughter the halfling mercenaries and all of the commoners.  When I went into Sorrowdusk Isle, to pick up and start the quests for Grey Moon, I collected 125 slayers for Erdrique and Sttollen, located all explorer points; collected the awards for slaying 10, 25, 50, and 100 slayers; and located and defeated Teargon, Furley, and Saate.  Once inside  the Iron Mines, I came across the rare encounter Powder in Freeing Achka and in Justice for Grust I defeated Corrosion, Chef Grank, and Champion Prienyl.  However, while running through Justice for Grust, Erdrique got  squashed by an ogre champion, which made the quest quite interesting.

On January 2, I took Erdrique and Sttollen into the Searing Heights explorer area to kick things out for the day. While out there, I collected 226 slayers for Erdrique and Sttollen.  Erdrique also picked up a monster manual deed for orc hunter and received 2.260 experience.  Both Erdrique and Sttollen collected the rewards for 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 kills.  The kills included the rare encounters for the first mate, Ghamzee, Calcine, Giallo, and Itharn Ushu.  Erdrique also collected all of the explorer points.  Later in the day, I took Erdrique and Sttollen back into Searing Heights and this time I collected all of the explorer points with Sttollen.  I also collected 138 more slayers and collected the rare encounters for Shute Ruggzen, Hazai Haatha, and Cruor Russo.

I didn’t log back into DDO until Wednesday, January 4th.  I took Garrrin (Level 23 Barbarian/Primal Avatar) out into the King’s Forrest.  While out there, Garrrin collected 45 slayers including six dire bears and one astral panther.  Shortly after that run, I then logged Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Shadow Dancer) and took him into the quest Memoirs of an Illusionary Larcenor on heroic elite.  It was the first time I tried this particular quest and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  I’m embarrassed to say that I wound up getting killed near to the end fight, primarily because I wasn’t paying attention to the fact my cleric hireling went down.  But I did my revenge, eventually :).

For Thursday, I started my questing by dual boxing with Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) into Tangleroot Gorge.  Crawlller already has this area maxed out but Cannock collected another 50 slayers before I switched characters out.  They also took out the wandering giant, Kroshk.  Later that night, I logged on with Containment (Level 8 Cleric) and Cannock (once again) and took them through The Cloven Jaw Scourge: Caverns of Shaagh.  Making my through that part of Shan-to-Kor, I completed the optional objectives for slaying the three ogres, slaying the three witch doctors, the three large elementals, and 75 hobgoblins.  Dealing with the champions, Containment collected 15 mysterious remnants and Cannock collected 11.

To kick off the weekend, I took Tuhnn (Level 16 Bladeforged) out into the Sands of Menechtarun for my regular slayer run.  I forgot to record my slayer numbers but I did collect a monster manual deed for zombie exterminator and finished locating all of the explorer points.  Tuhnn also looted a pair of the Gloves of the Falcon.  After that run, I took Hamllin back into Memoirs of an Illusionary Larcener and this time I was able to complete it on heroic elite with little difficulty.  That night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them, first, through Gladewatch Outpost and then the Forgotten Caverns.  While in Gladewatch Outpost, Erdrique picked 50 mysterious remnants and while in Forgotten Caverns they took out the optional for slaying Moldfang.  After running through the Forgotten Caverns, I took Erdrique and Sttollen out into Tangleroot Gorge and completed Doom of the Witch Doctor: The Way to Zulkash and Doom of the Witch Doctor: Zulkash, Herald of Woe.  To close out the night, I took Erdrique and Sttollen into Devil Assault and defeated all of the waves.  In that run, Erdrique collected 17 mysterious remnants and Sttollen collected eight.

Questing from April 11th to April 14th

My quest runs from April 11th to 14th contained some epic level quests and slayer runs, some runs through the Anniversary party, some low level quest and slayer runs, and some time in Sands of Menechtarun.  Things kicked off on Monday when I took Rimuldar to Eveningstar and into the King’s Forest.  I didn’t have a whole a lot of time to do some questing prior to work but I did collect another 11 kills, with one of them being a dire bear, and I completed the random encounter for helping out the Eveningstar healer.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin into the Sands of Menechtarun and ventured into the Valley of the False Tombs and collected another 60 slayers in the undead category.  However, he only came across one of the rare encounters out there, The Thirsty One.  To close the night out, while playing my digital DnD game, I took Wapoyei into the Anniversary Party and collected four party favors after I completed all of the objectives.

On Tuesday, I started my questing with another one of my dwarves, Garrrin.  Like Rimuldar, Garrrin is working on his slayers in the King’s Forest.  Garrrin collected 18 more slayers while roaming around the grand forest including a dire bear.  He also came across the random encounter to slaves of many masters but I couldn’t defeat the drow fast enough and failed that encounter this particular time.  In the afternoon, it was Erdrique’s turn to head into the Sands of Menechtarun and during this run he made his way past the Windlasher Canyon and into the Scar to collect some scorrow slayers.  While out there he picked up six gnoll and 87 scorrow slayers.  He also took down Mendexethazz, Utach Sandcrawl, and Wokran-kull.  He also looted some interesting items from these chests including Frigid 12 (insightful fire resistance 12) of Tumble 12 Bracers (masterful craftsmanship), Sting, and an Alluring 5 (+5 Charisma) Ring of Combustion (66 Fire Spell Power).  My run Tuesday night was a dual boxing session with Berann and Containment.  I took both of them into quest, The Snitch to continue on with the Phiarlan Carnival Series.  They completed the optional objectives for slaying Rusty and in returning the letter.  At the end of the run, Berann scored 700 points of favor and his second rank in House Phiarlan favor and Containment reached 600 points of favor.

Wednesday, I started the day off with another dual boxing session, this time with Cannock and Crawlller.  I took them into Tangleroot Gorge, as Cannock was my primary focus for this run and he is still working on that area.  Crawlller already has this particular area maxed out.  While making my way through the jungle along the Tangleroot River, Cannock collected another 27 slayers and defeated the rare encounter Silkweave.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin back into the desert and into the Valley of the False Tombs.  He collected another 117 slayers and defeated the rare encounters Palumak and Whirling Ozan.  From Palumak, he looted a Dusk Heart.  Those were the only runs I made that day, as it was date night :).

Hamllin taking on Palumak once again.

To close out the week, all of my runs on Thursday were within the Sands of Menechtarun.  I started out by taking Tuhnn into the Burning Mountain Region to fight off the firebrand gnolls.  While hunting in the desert, Tuhnn collected 89 more slayers in gnolls.  He also found and defeated Haraja, Vorvand, and Lieutenant Ayurro.  By defeating Vorvand and Ayurro, he was able to complete all of the rare encounters in the desert.  He also looted the Gloves of the Falcon from Ayurro’s chest.  He also hit 750 gnoll slayers.  In the afternoon, I took Erdrique into the Menechtarun Desert and back into the Scar.  During this run, Erd picked up another six gnoll slayers and 88 scorrow slayers.  As a result, he hit the 1,500 slayer mark for scorrow.  He also came across Utach Sandcrawl and Volrune the Curate.  For my nightly run, I logged on with Sludgge and he also ventured into the sun baked Menechtarun Desert.  He also made his way to the Scar and to make his way to the quest, An Offering of Blood.  On his way to the quest, he collected 89 scorrow slayers.  Once inside the quest, Sludgge gathered a few monster manual deeds.  He picked up scorpion exterminator I for 423 experience, scorrow hunter for 2,260 experience, and scorrow exterminator for 1,130 experience.  During this run, Sluddge picked up two scrolls: Scroll of the Xuum and Scroll of the Bracers of Deftness.  He also picked up 41 fragments of the token of the twelve and received eight commendations of valor as a quest reward.

Overall it wasn’t a bad week.  I had a nice mixture of quest runs.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Highlighting More Quest Runs April 4th to April 7th

The runs during the first full week of April started with a dual boxing session with Lorrikk (Level 14 Monk) and Stoorage (Level 16 Fighter) through Sorrowdusk Isle.  Stoorage already had that area maxed out and Lorrikk was only able to pick up three slayers before I ran into some computer issues and got booted out.  By the time I got everything up and running again, I had to head out to work.  I didn’t get on during the afternoon, but later that night I logged on with Rimuldar (Level 23 Wizard/Draconic Incarnation).  I then took him into the Sschindylryn and made my way to the quest, The Portal Opens.  As I took Rimuldar through the dangerous drow city, he picked up another 9 slayers for the drow and another 4 slayers for the Children of Lolth.  Once inside the Portal Opens, on epic normal, Rimuldar had no major problems dealing with the drow.  He defeated at least one priestess of Lolth.  His loot included two commendations (War Wizard and Village of Eveningstar), a sapphire of spell agility +15, and the blade of the high priestess.  He also picked up 11 commendations of Valor as a quest reward.

To kick things off on Tuesday, I started out with another dual boxing session with a slayer run through Sorrowdusk Isle with Lorrikk and Stoorage once again.  Even though I had taken Lorrikk and Stoorage into Sorrowdusk Isle the day before, I did this because of my shortened play time that unexpectedly occurred.  This time, Lorrikk collected 52 slayers.  Lorrikk and Stoorage also defeated Teargon, Barxer, and Kurmer.  Out of one of these chests, Stoorage looted a nice pair of boots, Boots of Diversion 7 that were masterful craftsmanship with Speed IV at level 7.  I didn’t get a chance to complete an afternoon run.  For my regular play session, I had another dual boxing session with Containment (Level 8 Cleric) and Cannock (Level 8 Druid).  Containment needed to complete the Sharn Syndicate series on elite so I took them into the next quest he needed, Bookbinder Rescue.  I had a number of issues getting through this quest during this go around.  I failed the quest twice because of various lag spike issues.  I did complete it on the third attempt but Containment was killed so I had to complete it with Cannock (as my focus was on playing Containment that night).  After struggling through the Bookbinder Rescue, I then took them both into Repossession.  I had no problems making my way through the quest and I had completed the optional objectives to smash the furniture, kill the master of hounds, and to steal 3, 6, and all artifacts.  I then called it a night.

On Wednesday, I had yet another dual boxing session to kick things off.  This time I took Cannock and Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) into Three Barrel Cove.  The morning slayer run netted both Cannock and Crawlller with 25 slayers.  In the afternoon, I took Erdrique (who is now a Level 3 Rogue) into the Sands of Menechtarun.  It was kind of a disappointing run though.  He didn’t come across any rare encounters but did collect some more slayers including eight gnolls and 89 scorrow.  That was the last run I completed on Wednesday.

On Thursday, I was only able to get in a single play session.  It was another dual boxing session, this time with Berann (Level 8 Barbarian) and Containment.  Berann was my focus and he still needed to work on Tangleroot Gorge wilderness area.  During this morning slayer run, Berann collected 28 slayers and defeated Clamor.  He also looted a Minor Circlet of Blasting from Clamor’s chest.

So this particular week was heavily loaded with dual boxing runs.  I also had some minor issues with my computer and some lag issues causing some frustrations.  But overall, it was a nice but light week.  I hope everybody is doing well and thank you for reading!!

Questing the First Week of March, February 29th to March 3rd

Well, the first week of March was a special week since it kicked off the 10th anniversary celebration for DDO :).  The week actually began on the “leap” day, February 29th, and the day wound up being quite a unique data for my questing besides the fact that it was on a “leap” day.  It was unusual in that I dual boxed with Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) for all of my quest runs.  Things started out with my normal slayer run in the morning as I took Cannock and Crawlller into Waterworks.  Cannock was working on finishing this area out (Crawlller already had it maxed out).  During that run Cannock picked up his last 82 kills to complete the area and in that process they took out Dhulokk, Har-har, and Gnarkill.  I didn’t get a chance to log in for my afternoon run but later that night I logged back on with Cannock and Crawlller and I took them out into Tangleroot Gorge to run the first quest of Assault on Splinterskull: First Strike.  Cannock is currently heavily working in this area while Crawlller only needs to find Commander Gharjat to have the entire area maxed out.  While out here, I picked up the rest of the explorer points for Cannock (10 more it total), picked up another 108 kills (pushing Cannock above 400), and found the rare encounters Clamor, Silkweave, Xassak, Jarak, Jana, and Kornak.  I then entered the quest First Strike and completed it on elite, including the optional objective of taking out Blademaster Chagg.  After that successful run, I then headed out of Tangleroot and decided to try the new Anniversary Party.  It was the first time I took at look at the quest and needless to say, I struggled in it.  Cannock was sliced in half by Severlin while Crawlller met his end against Steelstar.  After that attempt, and after the Monday night digital pen and paper game wound down, I called it a night.

On Tuesday, to kick off the first day of March, I took Tuhnn (Level 16 Bladeforged) into the Sands of Menechtarun.  While I was hunting out there during the morning slayer run, Tuhnn picked up 85 gnoll slayers and took out Den Mother Fheena.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin (Level 18 Fighter) into the challenge Lava Caves: Time is Money.  Upon the quest completion, Hamllin picked up 141 Crystallized Magma Shards.  I completed the star objectives for obtaining 100 crystals, keeping all kobolds alive, and buying less than nine minutes of time.  That night, I logged back on with Crawlller and Cannock, for yet some more dual boxing, and I took them into the next quest for Assault on Splinterskull, Hobgoblin’s Captives.  I completed optional objectives for defeating the Warden and destroying all of the weapon crates.  Cannock was also fortunate enough to loot a Sapphire of Defense +2.  After that run, I took Crawlller and Cannock back into the Anniversary Party.  While inside here, Crawlller got pasted by one of the ogre’s partying with Cordovan but in the end I was able to take out all of the developers (Severlin, Steelstar, Cordovan, and Vargouille) and the dark overlord.  I picked up four party favors as the quest reward.  Not too bad :).

I logged on with Stoorage (Level 14 Fighter) and Charlock (Level 16 Fighter) and had another dual boxing session on Wednesday morning.  I took them into the swamps of the Red Fens.  As they ventured out into the Red Fens, the accrued another 56 slayers to add to their growing slayer count and defeated the rare encounter, Beacon.  And while out there, Charlock picked up a monster manual deed for rat exterminator II and picked up 1,769 experience.  During the afternoon run, I took Erdrique (Level 27 Rogue/Grand Master of Flowers) into the challenge Lava Caves: Colossal Crystal.  Erdrique completed the optional objectives for collecting one colossal crystal and clearing out the auditorium.  He picked up 227 epic jaded scorpions.  That was all I was able to get done on Wednesday as I spent the rest of the night with my wife for our weekly date night.

To close out the week, I started Thursday morning by taking Hamllin out into the desert for some more slayers.  While hunting out there I picked up 68 gnolls, 5 scorrow, and 72 undead.  I also encountered and took down Lieutenant Ayurro, Haraja the Firedancer, and Palumak the Scourer.  In the afternoon I logged on with Hamllin again I took him through the challenge Kobold Island:Shortcuts.  Hamllin was able to complete the challenge and earned 121 orthon metal scraps.  But the only objective I was able to complete was to gather 300 crystals.  Later that night, I was scheduled to play Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger).  I brought on him on took him into the The Prisoner on epic normal.  I completed the optional objectives for killing all of the arcane oozes, defeated Ingstoldt, defeated the mephits, and defeated the gargoyles.  I also defeated nine quori stalkers and five elder minotaur shamans.  I picked up 29 fragments of the Token of the Twelve, obtained a monster manual deed for elves (elf hunter, 700 experience) and picked up nine commendations of valor as a quest reward.  I then took Larrs into the Anniversary Party where I struggled quite a bit, dying multiple times to Cordovan, Severlin, and Vargouille.  I then got blasted by a kobold’s shaman disintegate which ended my run.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad week.  I had a nice little mixture of runs: high and low level runs, slayer runs, and dual box runs.  I did have some trouble in the Anniversary Party but I started to get the hang of it.  I hope everybody else had a great week as well!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Anniversary Party.

Last Week of February, Quest Runs February 22nd to February 25th

My quest runs over this past week were impacted by some travel I had to do for work.  I had some training to attend in Raleigh on Tuesday and Wednesday.  This impacted my quest runs on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as I had to travel Monday after work from the North Carolina Coast back to Raleigh.  However, I did take my computer with me so I did get some questing in :).

Before the traveling started, I did get a regular slayer run in.  I had another opportunity to do some dual boxing as I was scheduled to take Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) into Three Barrel Cove.  So shortly after logging in with Crawlller (who is on my Premium account), I also logged on Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and I took them both into shores of Three Barrel Cove.  While exploring the beautiful Three Barrel Cove landscape, they picked up another 58 slayers, discovered another four of the explorer points, and defeated Cannoneer Strinati.  From his chest, Crawlller picked up a Hair Dye: Snow.  However, because of the traveling time, that was the only quest run I completed on Monday.

Crawlller stumbling across the bell tower in Three Barrel Cove.

On Tuesday, I did a slayer run with Berann (Level 9 Barbarian) and Containment (Level 8 Cleric).  With Berann from my VIP account and Containment from my Premium account, I dual boxed them through Tangleroot Gorge.  Berann acquired another 108 slayers from the run and Containment picked up his last 42 slayers to hit the 1,500 slayer mark.  They also found and defeated Xassak, Vilesting, Kroshk, and rescued Jana.  The only thing Contaiment needs now for Tangleroot Gorge is find and defeat Gharjat and Kornak and then he will have the entire slayer area completed.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 18 Fighter) and I took him into the challenge Lava Caves: Time is Money.  I completed the collection of 100 crystals, buying less than nine minutes of time, and sending kobolds through teleporters 200 times.  Hamllin received 156 crystallized magma shards for the sucessful run.  After that run, I took Hamllin out into the Sands of Menectharun to continue his slayer runs out there.  In his explorations Hamllin picked up another 143 gnoll slayers, 73 scorrow slayers, and 62 undead slayers.  Hamllin us came across Mendexethazz, Stinkpelt, Lieutenant Ayurro, Whirling Ozann, and Thumak the Mad.  That night I logged on with Wapoyei (Level 24 Cleric/Divine Crusader) an I took him into Sschindylryn and into the quest House of Death Undone.  While in Sschindylryn I picked up another 11 drow slayers and 4 more children of Lolth slayers.  I also defeated Enrhiikuz, the mind flayer.  In the quest House of Death Undone, I completed the optional objectives for defeating 12, 24, and 36 undead drow, destroyed the cauldrons in the priestess chambers and the servants chambers, and defeated Silan Szind.  Some more notable encounters including fighting 13 Blademasters, four astral panthers, an acolyte of Lolth, and two guardian panthers.  Wapoyeie did suffer one defeat in the end fight.  For rewards I did pick up 10 mysterious remnants, one commendation: Druids of the King’s Forest, the Staff of the Necromancer, and 19 commendations of valor (quest reward).  I called it a night after that run.

Because of traveling back home and since Wednesday is also my weekly date night with my beautiful wife, I didn’t get a chance to play through any quests on Wednesday.  I didn’t get back to questing until Thursday morning when I logged on with Rimuldar (Level 23 Wizard/Draconic Incarnation) and I took him out into the King’s Forest.  During his hunting in this majestic forest, he collected another 36 slayers, which included five dire bears.  I also completed the Slaves to Many Masters rare encounter.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 26 Rogue/Lengendary Dreadnaught) and I took him through the Cannith Challenge Lava Caves: Colossal Crystal.  I figured after struggling in trying to complete Kobold Island: Short Cuts that instead I would run the other challenges to just convert those ingredients over to those that I need.  I was able to complete the objectives for collecting at least one colossal crystal and clearing out the arena.  Erdrique picked up 272 epic jade scorpions as his reward.  Later that night, I logged on with Berann and Containment and dual boxed with them for the second time in the week.  In my rotation, Berann was the next character scheduled to be played and he needed to complete Freshen the Air on elite.  So I took Berann, and dragged Containment with me, and ran through Freshen the Air on elite.  While adventuring through the quest Berann picked up a monster manual deed for troglodyte hunter (gaining over 1,600 experience) and I compelted the optional objectives for slaying Chief Shyrasser, the shamans, and minimum number of troglodytes.  After completing Freshen the Air, I headed off to the Necropolis to take on the first few quests in the Necro I series.  For these runs, I was joined by Nitewalker, and we headed off into the Tomb of the Crimson Heart.  Nitewalker had started the quest and had a good portion of it done by the time I got in there.  I didn’t remember collecting or completing any of the optional objectives.  After we made our way through Tomb of the Crimson Heart, we then headed into Tomb of the Immortal Heart.  While making our way through the tomb, Berann picked up 20 mysterious remnants and obtained another monster manual deed for ghasts (ghast hunter, giving over 4,000 experience).  We also broke of the summoning circles for fire, earth, and water.  We also defeated the Priest of the Crimson Heart and Prelate Abiram.  After this run, I had to call it a night.

Overall, it was mixture of runs during the limited amount of time I had this week.  However, they were fun runs and I was able to continue making progress on a few of my characters.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Another Dual Boxing Benefit

I have been dual boxing quite a bit lately.  I have written about dual boxing a few times (such as here and here) and I have mentioned it quite a bit in my weekly and weekend quest summaries but I haven’t really written about dual boxing since the fall.  Well, I was recently dual boxing with Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) last week and something happened during that quest run that reminded me of a benefit to dual boxing.

During this particular session, I was running the quest Redfang the Unruled.  I was scheduled to play Crawlller that night and he still needed to complete Redfang on elite.  I used Cannock to open the quest on elite (Cannock happens to be on my VIP account) and then proceeded to take Crawlller through the quest.  I wasn’t paying attention to my hireling contracts and didn’t notice that his cleric hireling had expired.  I didn’t worry about because I figured it would be ok and I progressed with the quest.  Plus it is always good to refresh those self-maintenance skills without the use of hirelings, you know like we had to do way back when :P.

For the vast majority of the quest run, everything was pretty good.  I moved Crawlller through the dungeon without any major problems dealing with the spiders, scorpions, spike, and poison traps.  It wasn’t until I reached Redfang’s lair when things turned sideways.  Crawlller was down to about 50% health when he opened the door to her lair.  The two other spiders with her did a great job for setting me up as a distraction.  Before I knew it was, down to 25% health and I was quickly back pedaling to try to heal myself.  Eventually, Redfang and her brethren caught up with me and put Crawlller down into the state of a soul stone.  Looks like my self sufficiency skills need to be enhanced, lol.

Crawlller reduced to a soul stone in Redfang waiting for Cannock to bail him out.

Luckily though, I still had Cannock alive and waiting in the dungeon back at the quest entrance.  So, I simply started to take Cannock to where Crawlller had died so that Cannock could save the day.  Well, this didn’t quite work out as well as I had planned.  Cannock didn’t fair as well as Crawlller did with respect to the poison trap.  When I made it to that room, I hit some lagginess and next thing I new Cannock was reduced to a soul stone in the doorway out of the poison trap room.  Lol, go figure…

However, because I was dual boxing with Cannock, I didn’t have to worry about recalling and rushing from wherever I was bound back to the quest entrance before it reset.  Not to mention, I didn’t have to worry about losing some experience on Crawlller because he re-entered the dungeon.  The dual boxing method allowed me to take my time and re-enter the quest with Cannock after obtaining the necessary buffs.  This time, I didn’t have any issues with the poison trap at all.  Thankfully :P.

So another benefit of dual boxing is that one of your dual boxed characters can hold the quest instance for you in the event that both characters die.  You don’t have to worry about not returning to a dungeon in time before it resets and you can take the time you need to resupply and rebuff as necessary.  Definitely a nice benefit!!

Thanks for readying everybody and happy hunting in Red Fang’s hunting grounds!!

Detailing the Week, Quest Runs January 18 to January 21

This past week was a slightly abnormal week for me in terms of game play.  This is primarily because I had Monday off from work so I didn’t do a typical slayer run nor did I complete an afternoon quest run.  I also didn’t play my normal nightly quest run on Thursday.  Even with that said, I still had an active week.  I kicked things off on Monday night, as I was prepping for our weekly digital PNP session as well, by logging in Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) for another chance at a dual boxing session.  I was scheduled to play Cannock on Monday so I let his quest needs determine the quests I wanted to work on.  So I took them into the quest Kobold’s Assault on elite and then into the Captives on elite.  Once I completed those, I noticed that both characters still needed An Explosive Situation, which is a solo only quest.  So, I broke their group and took each of them into An Explosive Situation and got it completed.  I then called it a night.

Tuesday, the questing came back to normal.  I started out the day by taking Rimuldar (Level 23 Wizard/Draconic Incarnation) into the King’s Forest for some morning slayer runs.  For the short time I was exploring out there, I came across two random encounters: Free the Villager from the Bandits and Silence the Drow Hunters.  I wasn’t quick enough to save the villager so I failed that encounter but had no issues with the drow hunters.  I also defeated another 3 dire bears and recorded another 38 slayers.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) and I took him into the challenge Lava Caves: Time is Money to get some ingredients.  If I remember correctly, I only got through one start, possibly two, and was awarded 133 Crystalized Magma Shards.  Once that was completed, I took Hamllin out into the Sands of Menechtarun for some more slayer runs.  While he was out there he took out Thumak the Mad and General Tananhk and compiled another 88 undead slayers and 3 more gnoll slayers.  Tuesday night, believe or not, I logged back on with Crawlller and Cannock and dual boxed them again.  This time Crawller was driving the quest runs and he needed to complete Redfang on elite, so I started out there.  I actually ran into some issues here.  I ran Crawlller through the majority of quest, actually getting him to Redfang herself.  However, when I started the quest I didn’t realize my hireling had expired so I didn’t have my back up healing with me.  In any case, I did get Crawlller to Redfang where she landed a devastating hit and turned him into a soul stone.  So, I then switched over to Cannock, who I had left in the at the entrance way and I took him up to the point of where the poison traps are.  Unfortunately my timing was off and I was killed in the poison trap room.  I went ahead and released with Cannock and re-entered and my way back to Crawlller and Redfang and then finished the quest.  A little bumpy but it did get done :).  While Crawlller was making his way their initially I did come across two rare encounters: Venom (spider) and Vyragon (Troll).  I then separated Crawlller and Cannock and took Crawlller through the solo only quest, Home Sweet Sewer  I then called it a night.

I actually had the chance to do a lot more questing than I actually accomplished on Wednesday.  My wife had to work late that night but instead of taking advantage of the extra time to do some quest runs, I spent the extra time working on some blogs :).  However, with that said, I did get in game and completed a few things.  In the morning, I logged on with Garrrin (Level 22 Barbarian/Fury of the Wild) and I took him into the King’s Forest for his turn at some slayers. While exploring the great forest, I came across two random encounters, Silence the Drow Hunters and Shopkeeper’s Salvation.  Silence the Drow Hunters I actually came across twice.  Garrrin had no problem in succeeding in these.  He also collected another 32 slayers whch included four dire bears and pushed over the 400 slayer mark.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Primal Avatar) and completed two runs through Lava Caves: Time is Money.  I was awarded 200 epic Crystallized Magma Shards in the first run and 102 Crystallized Magma Shards in the second run.  I then took Erdrique out into Sands of Menechtarun and collected another 87 undead and 4 gnoll slayers.  After that run I called it a night.

Erd taking in the sights in the desert.

Thursday I didn’t get a chance to log in for my regular night run.  However, I did get a slayer run in with Cannock and Crawlller, dual boxing once again.  Cannock determined the slayer area, which was the Waterworks.  I only came across one named monster and that was the spider Ecru.  Cannock did acquire another 57 slayers before I headed out to work.  In the afternoon, after work, I logged on with Hamllin and took him back into the Lava Cave: Time is money were he was able to pick another 122 Crystallized Magma Shards.  I then took Hamllin out into the desert for some slayers where he picked up another 34 gnoll slayers and 96 undead slayers.  I also came across the rare encounter, Thumak the Mad and Palumuk the Scourer.  I then called it a night.

So overall, a lot of dual boxing with Cannock and Crawller.  But it was also a lot of fun.  I hope eerybody else had a great week as well I wish everybody has a great weekend.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Random Loot in Explorer Zones

The random loot changes have resulted in quite a wide variety of new items and also led to quite a bit of discussion as well as intrigue when our favorite characters open chests once again.  Some of the changes to random loot include the scaling of the loot from chests to be equivalent to the level of the dungeon you are working through.  However, I wondered how this applies to chests that drop in explorer zones.  I tend to run through explorer zones quite often so this could have some impact on me.

So far I have found some interesting things.  Lately I have been running Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) through the Sands of Menechtarun.  The Sands of Menechtarun, also known as the “Desert”, has a level range of 8 to 15 to receive full experience while doing some questing out there.  The area is considered to be a level 11 explorer zone.  So how does the random loot scaling work in these areas?  Will you get random loot that has a level range of 8 to 15 or just level 11?  From what I can tell, it looks like you can get level 11 scaled loot.  One of the more fun things I have pulled recently out of the Desert was a belt that had +5 Strength,  +19 Spell Resistance, and a green augment slot.  Not a bad item at all.

Hamllin checking out the belt in the chest from the mephit.

Another thing I wondered about was how does the new level scaling of loot by quest level affect loot that drops from breakables.  From what I can tell, the loot from breakables also has the same scaling mechanic applied.  While running through a quick instance of Three Barrel Cove with Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) I broke a barrel/crate and saw a +2 Shocking Greataxe of Deadly drop from it.  I don’t remember what the level of the greataxe was but I believe it was still within the level 5 range (which is the level of the heroic Three Barrel Cove zone). So the crates and barrels also seem to be dropping the appropriate scaled loot as well.

Crawlller checking out the greataxe that dropped from a crate/barrel in Three Barrel Cove.

In any case, it appears that the scaling of the loot that drops from explorer zones is based on its primary level and not on the range of levels where full experience is granted.  I look forward to making my way through the other explorer areas and seeing what other fun things I can find.

Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the wilderness zones!!
