Questing Over the Previous Week, Quest Runs February 15th to February 18th

Well, I think the theme for me during the last two months of 2015 and first two month of 2016 is to just fall behind :(.  I’m just over a week behind in my blog publishing so it is time to start getting back to being productive!!  Speaking to that end, I wanted to review what I did last week over the Valentine holiday.  On Monday, February 16th I kicked off the day by taking Cantlin (Level 13 Sorcerer) and Stoorage (Level 14 Fighter) for some dual boxing fun out into Sorrowdusk Isle.  While venturing the wilds of the tropical island, Cantlin picked up another 70 slayers.  Cantlin now needs less than 250 more slayers to max the area out.  He also picked up all of his rare encounters when I finally stumbled upon on Thanolin who was my last rare for him.  Stoorage I brought along but he already had the Sorrowdusk Isle area maxed out.  During the afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 26 Rogue/Legendary Dreadnaught) and took him into Kobold Island: Short Cuts on level 25.  Unfortunately, I only picked up 475 crystals out of the required 500 crystals so I failed during that run.  Later on Monday night, I logged on with Tuhnn (Level 16 Bladeforged) and I took him out into the Ruins of Gianthold.  While out there, Tuhnn picked up another 59 slayers in the Stormfist Camp which pushed over the 50 slayer mark for that camp.  He also was credited with finding Hobgoblin Lair’s entrance and the gnoll’s breadth bridge.  I then took Tuhnn into A Cabal for One on elite.  As Tuhnn made his way through the hobgoblin ranks, he obtained Hobgoblin Exterminator I in his monster manual for just over 300 experience.  He also encountered a few champions that dropped him 11 mysterious remnants and he finished the quest and also took down Olos Nobrac.  I then took Tuhnn out to Korthos Island to do a quick simple favor run, Storehouse Secret since he is an iconic character and skipped all of those quests.  After I completed Storehouse Secret, I then headed to House Cannith to do another challenge, this time the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage.  I didn’t have any issues at all and completed the objectives collecting 100 crystals and for defeating Auraxylion.  At the end of the challenge, I picked up 156 Arcanaloth Scrolls and a monster manual deed for Yuguloth, Yuguloth Hunter, which netted my over 2,00 experience.  I called it a night after that.

To start my questing activities on Tuesday, I took Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) out into the King’s Forest for some morning slayer action.  While hunting in the beautiful forest, Larrs racked up another 34 slayers.  In so doing, he killed off two dire bears, hit the 50 slayer mark, found the 10th message from Elminster, and defeated the drow hunters.  In the afternoon, I brought on Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter).  I then took him into the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Stortage and I ran into some unfortunate problems.  For some reason, I had a number of the kobolds decided they wanted to take a swim in the lava portion of the floor design and after I little while they died off one by one :(.  I only had one kobold left by the time the quest was over and then he got stuck on the pathing when I had 92 crystals collected, so needless to say I failed that run.  Later that night, I logged on with Rimuldar (Level 23 Wizard/Draconic Incarnation) and I took him into Sschindylryn and I made my way to the quest The House of Death Undone.  On my way to quest, Rimuldar picked up 13 slayers and took out the mindflayer, Enrhiikuz.  While in the quest, Rimuldar was able to the complete the optional objectives for killing 12, 24, and 36 drow zombies, destroying all of the cauldrons (slave quarters and priestess room), and for defeating Silan Szind.  It wasn’t a bad run at all!!  I then called it a night.

Wednesday started out by doing some more dual boxing, this time with Containment (Level 7 Cleric) and Cannock (Level 8 Druid).  I took them out to Tangleroot Gorge for the morning slayer run.  They both picked up 56 slayers and while hunting Cannock picked up the Wolf Exterminator II monster manual deed which awarded him nearly 1,700 experience.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique and I took him back into Kobold Island: Short Cuts, but just like before I failed again.  I just ran out of time extracting those crystals.  After that run, I took Erdrique out into the Sands of Meenctharun.  While doing some hunting in the desert, Erdrique picked up another 63 gnolls and 87 scorrow slayers.  He also was awarded Scorrow Exterminator IV in the monster manual and picked up nearly 9,500 experience from that reward.  He also came across Volrune the Curate, Mendexethazz, and Den Mother Feena.  He still needs two more rare encounters to have those complete.  After that run through the desert I called it a night to spend the rest of the evening with my beautiful wife 🙂 for date night.

I logged on with Charlock (Level 16 Fighter) and Stoorage (Level 14 Fighter) and had another dual boxing session in which I took them into the Red Fens for the morning slayer run on Thursday.  While moving through the marshes and swamps of the Red Fens, I collected another 95 slayers for both of them.  This actually pushed Stoorage past the 400 slayer mark.  I also killed Gorger and Nab Ren.  I didn’t get on during the afternoon but later that night I dual boxed again, this time with Containment and Cannock.  I was scheduled to play Containment and he still needed to run The Captives and the Sharn Syndicate quests.  So I took them out into the Cerulean Hills and made my way to The Captives.  While taking down the Grul Tribe orcs, Containment and Cannock defeated captains Griznuk and Maknuls. I also defeated a wolf champion that dropped 64 mysterious remnants for Containment and only 15 mysterious remnants for Cannock.  However, in one of the chests Cannock looted a +2 Dwarven Axe of Feeding that also did pure good damage, a nice low level twink weapon.  After I took them both through the Captives, I then headed to Marketplace and started the Sharn Syndicate series by running through Stand Your Ground.  While in the quest, as I was playing Containment with Cannock piking around, I wasn’t paying attention to Rance’s health and I actually lost him during the battle.  I did pick up some more mysterious remnants from another champion though (16 for Containment and 11 for Cannock).  After that I took them both into the quest Dirty Laundry.  As I completed the quest, I also completed the optional of opening doors with the secret levers.  I then moved onto the Stormreaver Fresco where I completed the optional objectives of not opening the safety deposit boxes and not killing the guards.  That was the last quest I ran for the night.

Overall, the week was quite a mixture of various quest turns.  I had some epic runs as well as some low level runs.  The slayer runs were also quite variable and I even had a decent mixture of dual box and regular quest runs.  It was a fun week indeed.  I hope everybody else had a great week too.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Questing to Start Off the New Year, Quest Runs January 1st to January 3rd

Well I kicked off the new year in style by doing some questing in DDO :)!!  On Friday, January 1st, I started questing in the morning by taking Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Primal Avatar) out into the Sands of Menechtarun for some slayer runs.  I have been looking forward to getting back out into the desert with Erdrique as that is my favorite explorer zone.  I then took a little break and then went back into the desert to gather some more slayers.  Then in the early afternoon, I went into House Cannith and ran the challenge, Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage twice to get some to get some epic Arcanaloth Scrolls to upgrade my Spare Hand belt.  Later that night, I headed out to the Devil Battlefield to try the quest A New Invasion.  I was joined by another guildie, Friedrice, and we made it to the end fight without any issues whatsoever however the end fight was a major complication.  Fried and I just couldn’t get past that pit fiend in the end fight.  Our lack of ranged damage ability and being held by those powerful chains pretty much sealed our doom for that run.  After a number of deaths, we eventually ran out of time.

Erdrique has finally made it out to the desert.

Erdrique and Fried preparing for A New Invasion.

However, we didn’t want to end the holiday on a bad run so we changed our quest run and headed out to the House Cannith Manufactury.  I still needed the quest, Schemes of the Enemy, and believe it or not I had never tried that particular quest.  I wasn’t quite prepared for its relative length but it was a much smoother run than what he had in A New Invasion.  Although the end “puzzle” was a little irritating as Fried and I tried to work its logic and chasing down that stupid magefire cannon was also quite annoying but we made it through and we both got the Tinker’s Gloves and Boots of Propulsion in the end chest.  After our run through Schemes of the Enemy we both called it a night.

Erdrique and Friedrice dealing with a warforged titan in Schemes of the Enemy.

On Saturday, I logged back on with Erdrique and I headed back out into the Devil Battlefield to try A New Invasion once again.  After I had cleared the path there, I was joined by Hellsbain and Lunarhaze, both have artificer in them and are strong in ranged combat.  Again, we made it through the quest without a problem until we got to the end fight.  It was the first time Hellsbain had been in there and I don’t think Lunar had been in their in a long time (it actually might have been his first time as well).  After a few deaths during some “test” attempts, we were finally able to take down the pit fiend and complete the quest.  After we recalled, Hellsbain called it a night and Lunarhaze worked on his inventory (he had just returned to the game and was struggling with the new gear stuff).  I continued on and headed back into the House Cannith Manufactury to do the quest Power Play.  I had never done this quest before either so making my way through this House Cannith quest I found interesting.  I didn’t have any issues with it and found it to be much easier than Schemes of the Enemy.  After that I called it a night.

Erdrique trying to finish off the pit fiend before the pit fiend finishes him.

Erdrique making his way to the quest Power Play.

Erdrique watching as the Cannith Crystal gets powered down.

Sunday, I spent a majority of the time just doing a lot of maintenance.  I logged on all of my characters from both accounts and went through all of their auctions that were returned and broke down what I could and then sold what I couldn’t.  However, I really wanted to get Erdrique’s last heroic quest completed, Blown to Bits.  Now Blown to Bits was the only House Cannith quest I had done before so I was familiar with what I needed to do in there.  I just hadn’t completed it in a long, long time.  So, I headed back out to the House Cannith Manufactory and completed it without any major issues.  So now Erdrique is done with his regular heroic quests.  I’m thinking about making a run for the raids, but we’ll see.  I did log back in later that night with Garrrin (Level 23 Barbarian/Fury of the Wild).  Garrrin was working on the The Darkening quest chain and was on the The Lost Thread.  I went ahead into the King’s Forest and made me way to the Abandoned Temple and completed The Lost Thread on epic hard.  I then moved on to the Battle for Eveingstar and took that quest on epic hard as well without any issues.  I then completed a favor run, The Bookbinder Rescue, before I called it a night.

Erdrique is back in the Manufactury.

Finishing up the night by knocking down some doors and getting some favor.

So the weekend was pretty fun indeed :).  I’m looking forward to tackling the epic quests now with Erdrique.  I’m also ready to get back to my regular schedule.  I hope everybody else had a happy and safe New Year’s holiday and I also hope everybody had a fun weekend in DDO.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Cannith Manufactury!!

An Active Halloween Weekend, Quest Runs October 30th to November 1st

I always enjoy the Halloween holiday and this past weekend was no different.  I was a little bummed out that we couldn’t dress up at work on Friday, October 30th but I made up for it by dressing up on Halloween to pass out candy to the kids.  But another aspect I always enjoy with Halloween is playing DDO and slaying many monsters :).  This year was no different.  I kicked off the weekend by taking Berann (Level 9 Barbarian) out into Tangleroot Gorge for some slayers.  I also took the opportunity for Containment (Level 7 Cleric) to tag along with him by dual boxing with my two accounts.  After work, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) and I took him out into the undead zone of the Sands of Menechtarun as he continues to work on his 1,500 slayer mark in that region.  I then took him out to Delera’s Graveyard and to participate in the Night Revels.  It took me about three minutes or so to accumulate two keys.  I used one to enter Haverdashed on level 20.  I was expecting it to pretty easy but I underestimated the ability of my hireling cleric and my lack luster damage output with piercing weapons and found myself a soul stone during the fight with the skeletons with my hireling quickly following suit.  However, I did find out that when you fail an instance a key is still consumed.  No worries though, I had my revenge :).  I then called it for a little while and then logged back on Friday night with Erdrique (Level 22 Rogue/Fury of the Wild).  I had originally planned on knocking out the quests in the High Road so I headed out there and completed Lost in the Swamp and A Stay at the Inn on heroic elite.  It was the first time I have done these quests and I found them interesting.  In between those runs, I also took Erdrique through a run of the Night Revels and Haverdashed and through a run of the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage.  I called it a night after that.

Halloween was quite an interesting day, especially with my questing!!  I took as much opportunity as I could to do some challenge questing and Night Revels questing in between my chores and yard work.  The first thing I did was to log on with Hamllin so that he could get another shot at Haverdashed.  This time I went in on level 17 and switched weapons and had no major issues, so he got his revenge there.  After that, I logged on with Erdrique who then participated in the Night Revels as well and completed runs through Haverdashed, Kobodl’s Newest Ringleader, and Under New Ravagement.  I also had some time to complete two runs of the Extraplanar Palace: Dragon’s Hoard and a run through Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Picture Portals.  After the trick and treating, I logged back on Saturday night and I grouped up with Okhamel and took him through the Night Revels and through the Snitch and the Lich.  We then headed out to the Twelve to try the quest Terminal Delirium on heroic elite.  It was first look at the quests from the Heart of Madness quest series and all I can say is that it was an interesting experience.  We were in there for quite some time and when we completed it I needed to call it a night.  But I can say that we did completed it :).

On Sunday, I had hoped to log in during the day like I did on Saturday but unfortunately the opportunity didn’t arise.  I did log on that night though but I had made a mistake in my calendar.  I forgot to update my calendar and had logged on with Stoorage (Level 13 Fighter) but I was supposed to play with Cannock (Level 7 Druid).  I didn’t realize this mistake until this morning when I started to think about it more.  Oh well, in either case I played Stoorage and dual boxed him with Cantlin (Level 12 Sorcerer).  I also joined up with Twotoe.  Stoorage still needed the Necro I series on elite (he hadn’t started them yet) so we ran through all five quests on elite (Tomb of the Immortal Heart, Tomb of the Sanguine Heart, Tomb of the Burning Heart, Tomb of the Crimson Heart, and The Bloody Crypt).  Even being well over level, I still wound up getting enough experience to move Stoorage and Cantlin from level 12 to 13.  Now I will just have to remember to log on with Cannock during my next scheduled run with Stoorge to get back on track.  The dilemma of having a plethora of characters :).  While running through these quests, I ran into some internet connection issues and when we were more than halfway through the Bloody Crypt my connection dropped.  It took me about another 20 minutes (if not longer) to reconnect and luckily Twotoe stayed on and waited for me.  Definitely an interesting night.

So, the weekend was quite fun.  I ran a wide variety of quests ranging from some low level slayers, to the Night Revels, to challenges, and high level heroic quests.  I hope everybody else had a fun and safe weekend as well!!  Thank you for reading and happy hunting in the Night Revels.

Making Some Progress, Quest Runs October 23rd to October 25th

I had a pretty active weekend in DDO :).  Questing started out on Friday morning when I logged on with Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and took him into the Ruins of Gianthold (Heroic) and accumulated my 1,500 slayer mark in the Stormfist zone.  Now that he has that, I think I will move him over to Eveningstar to start working out in the King’s Forest for awhile.  After I got back home from work, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 22 Rogue/Fury of the WIld) and tried to make my way through the quest Mask of Deception on heroic elite.  At the time I was trying it, I was level 21 and it was the first time I had seen this quest.  Needless to say, things didn’t quite work out so well which I commented on here.  So my afternoon run on Friday didn’t quite work out so well.  However, I logged back on with Erdrique on Friday night and took him back into the Mask of Deception.  I took a different tack this time and although I still had some problems with it, I was able to complete it.  I then took Erdrique through a run of the Lava Caves: Colossal Crystal to get some ingredients.  I actually took him through that challenge twice during the night.  The next quest I ran was Thorn and Paw on elite.  After I knocked that out, I decided to check out the Night Revels.  It didn’t take me long to get a key and I soon found myself heading into the quest Haverdashed and completing it.  I then called it a night (after I did some character maintenance on my other characters).

Saturday started out by logging back on with Erdrique and taking him back into the Night Revels before it was turned off, onice again taking advantage of the fact that I was able to quest between chores and yard work.  I was able to gather three keys and to knock out the other three quests: Kobold’s Newest Ringleader, Under New Ravagement, and The Snitch and the Lich.  Overall, I found the event quite fun and wrote about here.  I then took Erdrique through another run of the Lava Caves: Colossal Crystal and then through a two runs of the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage.  Those were the runs I was able to complete throughout the day but I also knocked some quests out with Erdrique later that night.  After I logged back in, I then headed out to Eveningstar and completed the The Druid’s Curse on heroic elite to finish out that storyline (The Druid’s Deep).  After the Druid’s Curse was completed, I did another run through the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage and then for a circuit through the Restless Isles slayer area.  I then decided to head out to the next set of level 17 quests I still have to complete on elite, Reaver’s Reach.  It has been a long time since I have been out to the Reaver’s Refuge so I was looking forward to running those quests once again.  I started out by taking Erdrique into Aussicraex’s Valley and running Prey on the Hunter.  It took me two runs but I completed it on elite.  To close out the night, I logged on with Tuhnn (Level 15 Bladeforged) and took advantage of the free feat respect that was being offered and got rid of Cleave (because he has Exalted Cleave) and picked up another feat in the two handed weapon line, I then called it at night (after more character maintenance).

In comparison to Friday and Saturday, my question on Sunday was very limited.  I didn’t get the opportunity this time to log in and quest throughout the day.  However, I was able to dual box with Stoorage (Level 12 Fighter) and Cantlin (Level 12 Sorcerer) and I used Cantlin to open up Under the Big Top on elite for Stoorage (who was previously working on the House P Carnival series through elite).  Cantlin, being on my VIP account, was able to ulnock the elite setting for Stoorage (who is on my premium account).  I did find it interesting that I came across a rare encounter in Under the Big Top that I hadn’t seen before, a tiefling named Maz’il’tilnik.  So that was quite interesting.  However, I didn’t have any major issues taking Stoorage through Under the Big Top on elite, but then again Stoorage was five level higher that CR level of the quest.  That was my last run for the weekend.

The questing over Friday through Sunday was quite numerous and quite fun.  I had good time with the Night Revels and completed another story arc just to start another.  We’ll see how Erdrique progresses through the rest of the Stormreaver’s Refuge.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in Reaver’s Reach!!

A Full Weekend of Questing, Quest Runs October 16th to October 18th

It was a fun full weekend of questing this past weekend.  I actually started the weekend by playing Ragnar (Level 7 Spirit Shaman) in Neverwinter Nights II instead of doing my typical morning slayer run in DDO on Friday morning.  I find Neverwinter Nights II to be a fun distraction to DDO and so far I have my game time sessions for it slotted in with my slayer runs prior to work.  However, with my recent move for more and more dual boxing, I’m wondering if I could figure out a way to play Neverwinter Nights II every once in awhile while playing DDO.  I’m going to have to work on that and see how effective I can make it.  In either case, I continue with Ragnar on Friday morning as he cleared out the gangs in the back alley of Neverwinter and now has received another quest.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) into the Sands of Menechtarun for some more slayers.  Hamllin is inching his way through the scorrow and undead and making a decent enough progress on his gnolls.  On Friday night, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 21 Rogue/Fury of the Wild) and I did a circuit through the Red Fens slayers and then got together with Hellbanisher.  Together we started the Reign of Madness quest chain and completed Acute Delirium and Sane Asylum.  After Sane Asylum, Hellbanisher called it a night but I continued on and completed Lord of Stone and Lord of Eye to get the quest chain completed.  After which I called it a night.

On Saturday, I took the opportunity to log on with Erdrique during the daytime between chores and yard work and I took him back out into the Red Fens and finally completed that slayer area!!  Now Erdrique needs to move to the Restless Isles and Ataraxia’s Haven, both of which shouldn’t take him very long.  The Restless Isles will be nice because it will allow Erdrique to wrack up a number of ogre slayers in his monster manual.  Besides hitting up and completing the Red Fens, I was able to knock out some challenges as well.  I completed three runs through the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage and one run through Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Picture Portals.  However, that was all of the questing I was able to get done on Saturday, as it was my weekend date night with my beautiful wife.

Sunday, I again was able to run a challenge with Erdrique during the day and I took him through Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Picture Portals once again and then I took him through a run of the Lava Caves: Colossal Crystal.  Later on Sunday night, I logged on with Tuhnn (Level 15 Bladeforged) and I took him out into the Sands of Menechtarun and headed off into the quest, Raid the Vulkoorim.  As I was completing that quest, Khamellock logged in and joined up with me and we then headed out to the quest Maraud the Mines and then over to Chains of Flame to get those quest knocked out on elite.  After the long run through Chains of Flame, I called it a night.

So the weekend was quite productive, even with having Saturday night as a date night.  Erdrique made a nice dent in getting the ingredients he needs to upgrade his Ring of the Stalker to tier 2 on its epic version.  Hopefully I can get that done through the week.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Time to Get Back Into the Challenges

For a little while there, I was really pushing on working on challenges to upgrade a Ring of the Stalker and a Spare Hand for Erdrique (Level 21 Rogue/Fury of the Wild).  That momentum kind of stalled when Erdrique hit level 20 because I couldn’t earn the epic ingredients I needed to upgrade the base level 20 versions of those items.  However, Erdrique is now level 21 so it is time to get back into the swing of things.  With that said, I started to take a few characters back out into House Cannith to run some of the Cannith Challenges.  I even started to bring in some of my lower level characters back into the challenges.  During the week, I took Lorrikk (Level 13 Monk) back into the Extraplanar Palace: Buying TIme and wound getting my first entry for my dragon slayer monster manual by taking down the spectral dragon Auraxyllon.

photo Taking on the mephits in EPP BT_zpsql8mlfqu.jpg

Lorrikk hunting in the Extraplanar Palace: Buying Time.

I did my first epic level challenge in a long time by taking Garrrin (Level 23 Barbarian/Fury of the Wild) into the epic version of the Extraplanar Palace: Buying Time and earning some epic mephit wings.  To continue with the momentum, I have taken Erdrique into the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage and into Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Picture Portals.  So far I have gained enough epic Arcanaloth Scrolls and a third of epic Jeweled Goblets for the second tier upgrade for the Ring of the Stalker.  It shouldn’t take me much longer to get that upgraded to Level 2 soon.

I’m looking forward to getting these fully tiered.  They are already great items and this will just make them all that much more fun :).  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the challenges!!

A Fun Weekend, Quest Runs September 4th to September 6th

This past weekend brought about some fun and fond memories for me!!  Especially concerning a couple of the quests in Ruins of Gianthold.  My weekend started out with a morning slayer run on Friday prior to work with Suppply (Level 9 Paladin) who is working on finalizing up Three Barrel Cove.  Suppply is nearly done out there.  I think he needs one more rare encounter and two more explorer points.  After he finishes that up he will be heading out into Sorrowdusk Isle.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 16 Fighter) and I took him out into the Sands of Menechtarun for some afternoon slayer runs.  Later on Friday night, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 18 Rogue) and I took him back out into the Red Fens for some slayers to start out the night.  Erdrique is steadily closing in on that 7,500 slayer mark.  After I made my circuit in the Red Fens, I then took him out into the Ruins of Gianthold.  While out there I head off and completed A Cabal for One, destroying the hobgoblin tribes.  Once I completed that run, I decided to do a challenge and headed out to House Cannith and ran the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage.  I’m working on gathering some ingredients for a Cloak of Flames for my druid, Cannock (Level 7).  After I completed a run through Labor Shortage, a then went back to the Ruins of Gianthold and completed Madstone Crater.  When I headed out to Madstone Crater I had put up a group in the LFG panel and had one PUG member join me when I was finished with the second seer.  It was good to see at least one pug join me :).  After a quick break, I then ran another iteration of Labor Shortage and then I called it a night.

Saturday was even more productive than Friday.  During Saturday afternoon, I took some time between my chores and my yard work to take Erdrique through some Cannith Challenges to keep gathering ingredients for Cannock’s Cloak of Flames.  I wound up running the Lave Caves: Time is Money four different times.  Saturday night, I got up with Hellbanisher and Okhamel and we had some fun times in the Ruins of Gianthold.  The first quest we hit up was Prison of the Planes.  Prison of the Planes was the last quest I needed to completed to get into Gianthold Tor.  However, once we completed the Prison of the Planes, we decided to give a The Crucible a try.  It had been quite awhile since I last ran the Crucible and figured it would be fun to give it a go.  We headed off and we made short work of it!!  I was expecting us to get bogged down in the maze and in the swim but we made it through both areas easily.  I did the swim with Erdrique and it was perhaps the smoothest swim I have done as of yet.  Then again, I’m not a Crucible expert.  After we completed the Crucible, we then decided to run Gianthold Tor.  We made our way through it without any problems.  Once we completed the quest, we then decided to give the three dragons a shot.  We were on elite so we were expecting on having some issues.  However, we expected wrong.  We took on the black dragon and his fire giant guardian first, then we took on the blue dragon and his cloud giant partner, and finished with the white dragon and his stone giant companion.  None of them gave us much of an issue.  I was quite surprised by that and have to admit it was quite fun taking them on again.  After we completed the Tor, I cashed in my saga reward for a huge boost in guild renown and Hellbanisher called it a night.  After Hellbanisher logged out, Okhamel and I then headed out into the Orchard of the Macabre.  While out there we ran through the Fleshmaker’s Laboratory on elite, including the optional objective.  After that, we both called it a night.

Sunday, similar to Saturday, I took some time between my chores and yard work to get a few challenge runs in.  I actually got up with Khamelbush and we ran Lave Caves: Time is Money twice and the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage twice during the afternoon.  That night, I gave Erdrique a break and logged on with Cantlin (Level 12 Sorcerer) and I got up with Twotoe, Purplepower, and Clairique and we ran through all of the Sentinels of Stormreach quest on elite.  We breezed through Bargain of Blood and the Black Loch.  We then headed off to Storm the Beaches and we had a PUG join our group.  We did run into some problems here but not many.  We then moved onto the quest The Tide Turns and finished the storyline.  We still need to hit up the quest, Spies in the House but overall it was great set of runs!!

As a recap, this past Labor Day Weekend was quite productive indeed for me.  I was able to get a number of quests completed, even some quests that I have completed in quite a bit of time.  It was definitely a fun time!!  I hope everybody else had a great weekend and I hope everybody enjoy their holiday weekend (at least those in the US).  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

A Look Back at an Interesting Week, Quest Runs August 31st to September 3rd

My activities in DDO this week were quite fun 🙂 and quite challenging!!  Over this week, I had two different characters hit new levels, I completed an explorer zone with one of my characters, had some challenges in some epic questing, and started an interesting PUG run.  Things got kicked off first thing on Monday morning when I took Cannock (Level 7 Druid) out into the Cerulean Hills.  Cannock won’t have much more to do out there before he moves off to the Waterworks explorer zone.  Later that afternoon, I took Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) out into Ataraxia’s Haven and continued to work on his 1,500 slayer mark.  On Monday night I logged on with Erdrique (Level 18 Rogue) I took him back out into the Red Fens to continue his quest to get those 7,500 slayers and then I moved him over to run in the Ruins of Gianthold.  While out in the Gianthold, I ran over to the quest A Cry for Help and knocked it out on elite and then I went over and worked on another Cannith Challenge, Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage.  After I completed Labor Shortage, I called it a night.  Unfortunately we didn’t do the weekly Monday night digital table top game as we didn’t have enough folks logging in because they had to take care of real life things :(.

On Tuesday, I started out the day by taking Tuhnn (Level 15 Bladeforged) out into the Sands of the Menechtarun.  Tuhnn’s progress out there has been quite slow, I will have to get him moving through that area soon.  I missed my opportunity to log in during the afternoon but it made it up later that night when I logged on with Erdrique and joined up with Okhamel.  We headed off into the Ruins of Gianthold and then blasted through the quest Foundation of Discord.  Everything went great with Foundation of Discord except I got killed fighting the end poss in his collapsed pit.  Luckily he only had a thread of health left and Okhamel was able to take him on and get me back up.  After we completed Foundation of Discord, we switched characters.  I logged on with Lorrikk (Level 13 Monk) who I had planned on playing that night.  Okhamel switched to Twotoe and then I put up a group in the LFG panel and we headed out to do the Xorian Chiper.  We made our way through The Path to Madness on elite and started Xorian Cipher when we started to get requests to join the group.  We had two others join us as we took on the crazy forces of Xoriat.  We had some interesting time dealing with the traps, as we didn’t have a full fledged rogue in the group, but we made it past them.  Overall it was a fun run and it was good to get some PUGS into a group.  When the quest was completed, I hit level 13 with Lorrikk and went to level up before I headed off for the night.

Wednesday I started the day by taking Stoorage (Level 12 Fighter) into Sorrowdusk Isle.  He is slowly making his way to the 1,500 slayer mark and only needs one more rare encounter to complete the area.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin back out into Ataraxia’s Haven.  By this point the only thing I still needed was to find the last rare encounter, the aboriginal rust monster Bestore.  He eventually spawned and I was able to complete the area.  Since Wednesday is my date night with my wife, that was the end of the questing for the night.

Starting my questing on Thursday, I took Hamllin, who was now done with Ataraxia’s Haven, out into the Sands of Menechtarun.  While chopping down some gnolls, my monster manual went off and I realized that I had gained a monster manual deed for killing gnolls and that I now had enough experience to go to level 17.  So I then recalled and leveled Hamllin up.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique and I took him out into the Orchard of Macabre for the first time this particular life and then completed the Desecrated Temple of Vol on elite.  The more interesting quest runs came on Thursday night when I took Garrrin (Level 23 Barbarian/Fury of the Wild) out into the Sands of Menechtarun to take on the quest Chains of Flame on Epic Hard.  Garrrin did pretty good but eventually got overwhelmed and got killed.  And I must say the addition of that grease and blow jet trap in the tunnel by the first shrine was just evil.  So I recalled and re-entered the Chains of Flame on epic normal and breezed through it.  However, I was glad when I opened up the epic chest at the end found a full Token of the Twelve just waiting for me :).  I called it a night after that.

Very Busy Weekend, Questing August 28th to August 30

This past weekend was busier that normal for me in game.  I was able to take advantage of some breaks during Saturday and Sunday to run some challenges to get some ingredients for some of my other characters.  The weekend started by taking Garrrin (Level 23 Barbarian/Fury of the Wild) out into the deep woods of the King’s Forest out in Eveningstar.  I might need to do a dedicated night with some of my characters to catch up on their slayer areas, including Garrrin.  I’m thinking that maybe I can rotate every third night to be a slayer/explorer run.  We’ll see, something to ponder.  My questing continued that afternoon when I logged on with Erdrique (Level 17 Rogue) and I took him into the Ruins of Gianthold (Heroic) and then into the quest Feast or Famine.  I ran Feast or Famine on elite and no issues at all making my way through it.  I took a break after that run and logged back in with Erdrique later on Friday night.  The first thing I did on Friday night was a slayer run through the Red Fens.  Although Erdrique is nearly level 18, I have well over 5,000 slayers and just want to max the Red Fens out.  After that slayer run, I then took Erdrique out into the Sands of Menechtarun and ran through Against the Demon Queen (Pre-Raid).  I was kind of nervous to run through this.  On Thursday, I had taken Hamllin (Level 16 Fighter) through Against the Demon Queen and I had some help from Khamels but we still struggled through the end fight with Lailat.  I found myself more on the floor then actually fighting her.  However, Erdrique didn’t have the same issues.  In fact, Erdrique never did get tripped up which saved quite a bit of frustration.  In the end the quest was relatively a non-issue for Erdrique.  After that run, I then decided to do the challenge, Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Behind the Door to get some ingredients and then I headed out to the Lordsmarch Plaza where I ran the quest Seigebreaker on elite.  I was also curious to see how this quest run would do as well but I had no problems with this quest (which is the capstone to the Attack on Stormreach Chain).  One thing I forgot to do was to get a fireball wand to light up some tents to spawn one of the medusas but I was able to use a gnoll warpriest to cast flamestrike to get them lighted.  Overall, it was a pretty productive Friday night.

Saturday was also a productive night.  I started the day by running some Cannith Challenges.  I was reviewing the list of potential awards the other day and have decided to work on gathering some of these items for my druid, Cannock (Level 7).  To gather these ingredients I decided to use Erdrique and I took him into the first challenge, Lava Caves: Colossal Crystal.  After a short break, I then ran Erdrique through Kobold Island: Kobold Chaos.  As I was finishing up that run, Khamelbush logged in and then helped me with a second run through Kobold Island: Kobold Chaos.  I then didn’t get a chance to log back in until later Saturday night.  The first thing I did was to work on some crafting levels so I worked on building some new shards to raise my various crafting levels.  I then took Erdrique through another circuit of the Red Fens collecting those slayers.  I then headed back out into Ruins of Gianthold and then took on the quest Trial By Fire on elite.  After defeating the Blackheart trolls, I headed off to do another challenge, this time it was the Lava Caves: Time is Money.  Once the challenge was completed I headed back out to Ruins of Gianthold and completed the Maze of Madness on elite.  When Maze of Madness was completed, I flipped back over to the challenges and ran Lava Caves: Time is Money once again.  I then closed out the night by running Mired in Kobolds on elite and taking out the two named black dragons and was fortunate enough to even get a black dragon scale :).

On Sunday, I logged in once during the afternoon and took Erdrique through another challenge, this time completing the Extraplanar Palace: Buying TIme.  That night, I logged on with Charlock (Level 15 Fighter) and I took him through the Red Fens, as he is currently working on that slayer area as well.  I then took him into the quest Fathom the Depths on elite and defeated the sahaughin invaders.  I then decided to have Charlock under a challenge, this one being the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage.  I called it a night after that.

Overall, it was definitely a challenge type weekend.  This happened to work out well as the bonus days this past weekend was for a 50% increased in challenge rewards :).  In any case, it was a nice weekend and a nice set of runs.  I hope everybody else had some good runs as well!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting.

Thinking About Auraxylion and His Recruiting Mechanics

Over the past few months, I have been running quite a number of Cannith Challenges lately.  In particular, I have been running the three challenges that are based on the Extraplanar Palace.  These include the challenges The Dragon’s Hoard, Labor Shortage, and Buying Time.  The Extraplanar Palace is a wondrous building that has been created by the powerful spectral dragon, Auraxylion.  The Extraplanar Palace is located between the various planes and is basically Auraxylion’s home and repository for his crystal hoard.

photo Erd and Okhamel fighting Auraxilon_zpsyvkfwld6.jpg

Taking on Auraxylion in the Extraplanar Palace.

One thing that I noticed while running through these challenges is that the enemies you encounter in the Extraplanar Palace are quite a mix of creatures.  The majority of these creatures are outsiders of one sort or another.  What makes this even more interesting, is that some of these outsiders are known to not to be too friendly with each other.  Some of the outsider enemies you will encounter include mephits, ice flensers, fire reavers, succubi, jariliths, and yugoloth arcanaloth casters.  There are also three powerful boss outsiders that may appears roaming around including Devashta (a red named Marilith), Salteshka (an orange named rhaksasha), and Graezil (orange named hag).  There appears to be only one type of enemy that you will come across that doesn’t appear to be an outsider and those are the animated armors (constructs) that you encounter frequently throughout the palace.

photo Erd tripping Salteskhka in Labor Shortage_zpsj8ynwbke.jpg

Erdrique tripping Salteskha in Extraplanar Palace.

Taking a look at this interesting set of monsters, I wondered how Auraxylion was able to pull together these powerful and prideful outsiders together and better yet how he was able to get them to work with each other.  I would think that a spectral dragon such as Auraxylion would be able to build an army composed of more “agreeable” monsters.  Perhaps those type of monsters that would hold dragons in high esteem or are known to be comparative would have been more of a wise decision.  Auraxylion must have a powerful incentive for these monsters to work together.  I’m guessing that these monsters have either left or have been banished from their original plane or homeworld and Auraxylion has found a way to recruit these wayward troops into his service.  I’m also wondering if Auraxylion has somehow established a alliance with the demons in Shavarath and maybe that explains why Devashta and Salteska are within the palace.  They could be acting as emissaries for him.

photo Fighting Animated Armors in Labor Shortage_zpsvwasvmpr.jpg

Battling some of the animated armors in the Extraplanar Palace.

In either case, his ability to recruit these forces is quite impressive and is a testament to his strength and his abilities.  I’m also guessing that the animated armors belong to those would be raiders and adventurers who suffered a slow and agonizing death at the teeth of Auraxylion and now have been raised and animated by Auraxylion to support his outsider army.  A nice little addition to his forces indeed.

photo Erd battling the mephits and flenser in Labor Shortage_zpsycdju8yc.jpg

It is interesting to think about the possible ties Auraxylion has to the other areas we have come across in our adventuring.  I wonder if this will be explored further.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Extraplanar Palace.
