Questing Over the Anniversary Week, February 26 to March 4

This past week, I had a rather tough time in a number of questing activities this week.  Not only did a suffer a rather large number of defeats and I also had a computer crash, go figure!!  However, with that said, I still had a good time.

I kicked things off on Sunday by taking Erdrique (Level 11 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 12 Rogue) into the Anniversary Party.  Since Sttollen is level 12, I entered the Anniversary Party at level 12 and made my way through the quest with little difficulty.  I complete the four optional objectives and received five party favors of the run.  That was the only quest I completed on Sunday.

Getting stunned by Steelstar in the Anniversary Party.

On Monday, I dual boxed with Lorrikk (Level 13 Monk) and Stoorage (Level 15 Fighter) and took them into the Red Fens.  For a little awhile now, I have been running through slayer areas on Monday because I’m also playing with a digital table top game with a small set of friends and sometimes my attention gets diverted for a large amount of time.  By running an explorer area, I don’t worry about not completing a quest.  During these runs through the Red Fens, Lorrikk collected 429 slayers and Stoorage collected 515 slayers.  Lorrikk picked up four monster manual deeds during this run.  He picked up mudman exterminator I and picked up 1,130 experience, sahaugin exterminator II for 1,320 experience, mudman exterminator III for my VIP account, and monstrous plant exterminator II for my VIP account.  Lorrikk hit the 750 slayer mark while Stoorage hit the 3,000 slayer mark.  They also took out Anogoreth (three times), Chokebriar (twice), Crooktooth (twice), Mudfoot (twice), Kar Xyr, Sharkbiter, Vyx Ka (twice), Gorger (twice), Fencreeper, Riptide, and Nab Ren.

I logged on with Berann (Level 10 Barbarian) to kick things off on Tuesday and took him into Tangleroot Gorge for some quick slayers.  While out there, he collected his last 21 slayers and finished off the zone.  He also came across and defeated Clamor and Silkweave.  Now he gets to move to Three Barrel Cove.  I then logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them into Sorrowdusd Isle to run The Temple Outpost: Captives of the Cult.  However, when I got to the quest entrance my computer crashed.  By the time I got it back up and running, I ran out of time for that run.  However, I did pick up another 26 slayers for both of them and defeated Noozer before my computer died.  Later that night, I logged on with Garrrin (Level 23 Barabarian/Primal Avatar) and I took him into the Underdark to attempt In the Belly of the Beast.  On his way to the quest, I picked up 20 slayers and defeated one Dun’robar Blademaster.  Once I made it to the quest I entered on epic hard and quickly regretted it.  I didn’t have any problems until I got into the arena.  Once inside the arena, I started to suffer quite a bit from lag.  I didn’t take long for my hirelings to die under the spawns of yuan-ti with me following shortly later.  Up to that point, I was suffering lag quite a bit so I was worried something bad would happen.  I recalled and made my way back to the quest but entered it on epic normal instead.  Things went much smoother this time.  Even with the lag, I had little difficulty with completing it.  Garrin picked up three monster manual deeds during the completion of In the Belly of the Beast: yuan-ti hunter (2,300 experience), purple worm hunter (2,300 experience), and purple worm hunter II (4,000 experience).  He completed the optional objective for slaying Voltane the Slave Master and picked up two commendations, one for war wizard and one for purple dragon knight.  He also received 11 commendations of valor as a request reward.  That closed out my runs on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, I logged on with Garrrin once again but this time for a slayer run through the King’s Forest.  He gathered 55 slayers, of which 3 were dire bears and one was a drow priestess.  He also completed the random encounter for Money or Life.  He also mind one more message from Eliminster.  Unfortunately that was the only run I was able to get in.

screenshot00586_zpsfpje84nb

I logged on with Cannock (Level 8 Druid) on Thursday and took him through Tangleroot Gorge.  He picked up 109 slayers and came across Silkweave, Clamor, and Gharjat.  After that run, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Fatesinger) and I took him the Anniversary Party at level 20.  This turned out to be a mistake :(.  It was painfully evident that Hamllin is nowhere near as prepared as Edrique and he suffered some humiliating defeats.  Well after that embarrassment, I logged on with the Cantlin (Level 14 Sorcerer) and Suppply (Level 11 Paladin) and I took them into Tomb of the Shadow Guard on elite.  Cantlin picked up a monster manual deed for spider hunter and received 1,356 experience.  After that run I called it a night.

I didn’t log in on Friday, primarily because my wife and I went out to eat, and then I fell asleep, completely missing that play time.  But on Saturday, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them into Sorrowdusk Isle for some slayers.  They picked up 146 kills and defeated Saate, Furley, Noozer, Barxer, Kurmer, and hit the 400 slayer mark.  I then ran it again later that night and picked up another 148 kills and defeated Saate, Furley, Barxer, Kurmer, and Kremen.  Erdrique also picked up the monster manual deed for scorpion exterimantor II and collected another 1,650 experience.  I then headed off to the Anniversary Party once again and had no issues completing.  Erdrique actually picked up a +1 to +2 Skill Tome (balance I believe) from the end chest.  I ran the quest on level 12 again which gave us five more party favors.  I then called it a night.

So yeah, it was a relatively rough week.  Having my computer crash, over sleeping, and then hitting a few rough gaming sessions but the questing was still fun and that is all that matters.  I hope everybody else had a great week!!  Thanks for reading and happy hunting in Stomreach!!

Another Set of Quest Runs, February 19 to 25

My questing this week was relatively light once again :(.  This was because of a few work related activities that kept me from logging in on Wednesday and Thursday.  Wednesday night is also my weekly date night with my wife so I don’t log into the game for a typical night run but I usually get a chance to run a slayer prior to dinner.  This week though, an ex-coworker of mine retired and his retirement party was on Wednesday and Thursday I was traveling all day and was just too tired to log in.

But, I did get some questing in during the rest of the week.  On Sunday, I logged on with Kanndar (Level 14 Paladin) and I took him into the Ruins of Threnal.  I was running a little short on time and decided to go ahead and complete the set of quests known as the Giant Caves: The Giants’ Lair, The Giants; Supplies, and The Giant Lieutenants.  During these runs, Kanndar picked up a monster manual deed for hill giant hunter which netted him 1,179 experience.

Monday, I took Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Fatesinger) into the Ruins of Gianthold (Heroic) while I was playing during my weekly digital pen and paper session.  Hamllin collected 80 Storm Fist slayers, 99 Storm Heart slayers, and 116 Storm Eye slayers.  He also came across the rare encounters Zakaya Master Ragath, Expedition Leader Brazwold, Tarmer Stonehoof, Lord Cirrus, and Clan Chief Ogh.

screenshot00568_zpsgvmf0gna

I started off on Tuesday by dual boxing with Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) and Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and did a slayer run in Three Barrel Cove.  They collected 104 slayers during that run and came across the rare encounters for Strinati, Dybesh Relix, Chortle, Brine, and Ithun Orenah.  After that run, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 11 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 12 Rogue)  and I took them into the quest Stromvauld’s Mine.  While in there they completed the optional objectives to slay Milos Baran, Boro Charidan, and Degren Marzat.  For my nightly run, I logged on with Charlock (Level 16 Fighter) and I was joined by Hellfiend and we decided to tackle the Slave Pits of the Undercity on heroic elite.  Charlock collected two monster manual deeds, one for ghast hunter (9,439 experience) and one for rat hunter (1,887 experience).  I’m still learning that quest and so is Hellfiend so it isn’t too surprising to learn that we got roasted in the massive fire trap room.  So we didn’t get the quest completed but we’ll knock it out next time.

Friday night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen, once again, and this time I took into the Xorian Cipher.  To get to the Xorian Cipher, I first completed The Path to Madness on elite and in so doing, Erdrique collected nine mysterious remnants.  While in the Xorian Cipher, Erdrique picked up a monster manual deed for scorrow hunter for 2,260 experience.  Erdrique and Sttollen completed the optional objectives for finding and entering the vault, sealing all of the rifts, and taking out Deathfang, Mastart Markud, Urtyan Markud, and the Vault Guardian.  In the vault, Sttollen picked up a mythic version of the Chaosgarde and a Reaver’s Ring.  Meanwhile, Erdrique picked up a Planar Gird and a mythic version of the Chaos Band.  Erdrique also collected 12 mysterious remnants.

To close out the week, Erdrique and Sttollen started things out by dual boxing Sorrowdusk Isle.  They collected 114 slayers and they both hit the 200 slayer mark as well as finding the rare encounters: Saate, Thanolin, Barxer, and Noozer.  A little while later, I logged on with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) to get the data I need for my monster manual analysis but after I did that, I took him out into  Tangleroot Gorge because I still have yet to finish that explorer are for him.  While out there, Kolll picked up a monster manual deed for wolf exterminator II and received 1,650 experience.  He also took out Gharjat, Jarak, and Silkweave.  Later on Saturday night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen again and I was joined by Sornea.  I have been trying to get some help with the Temple of Elemental Evil Part 1 and this time I had it :).  So we headed to the Hall of Heroes and then to the Temple.  Erdrique picked up another monster manual deed, this one human exterminator III for 1,695 experience.  He also picked up 27 mysterious remnants.  We had a few deaths but we did complete the quest and completed the optional objectives for 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 slayers.  After that we called it a night.

It is time to go hunting in the Temple of Elemental Evil.

So overall the week was a little shorter than usual but still productive.  I was really grateful for Sornea’s help in getting through the Temple of Elemental Evil.  Now all I need to do is get through the second part :).  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in DDO!!

Working On Another Week, February 12th and 18th

My quest runs this week included some runs across a mulitude of levels, as well as various outcomes.  To kick the week off, I logged on with Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and Suppply (Level 11 Paladin) and I took them into The Grey Moon’s Den: The Trollish Scourge.  On the way to the quest, they both collected 11 slayers for Sorrowdusk Isle.  Once I made into the quest I ran into some difficulties while playing Harrgon.  Harrgon was ripped apart five times by various champions.  It really emphasized how under geared he really is and I will need to work on that.  Hopefully I can rebuild my stock of essences and have Erdrique (Level 11 Bard) craft Harrgon some equipment.  In the end, I had to have Suppply bail out Harrgon but I was able to get the quest completed.  They also took out Shaman Herpostaw as well as all of the ogre collaborators.

On Monday, I logged back on with Suppply and Harrgon and took them back out into Sorrowdusk Isle for some slayers while I was also playing my weekly digital table top game.  While hunting in Sorrowdusk Isle, they collected 270 slayers out there.  Harrgon hit his 750 slayer mark and Suppply picked up two monster manual deeds, spider (1,200 experience) and scorpion (1,500 experience) exterminator II.  They also defeated the rare encounters Saate (2), Vermilo (2), Teargon, Kremen, Kurmer, Furley, and Noozer.  Harrgon was also able to finish collecting all rare encounters as well.

I logged on Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and I took him into the King’s Forest for some slayers.  While out there, he defeated two dire bears, one drow priestess, and came across the random encounters for the Knight’s Plight and Knight’s Collar.  He also picked up a purple dragon knight commendation and 46 slayers.  Shortly after that run, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Shadowdancer) and I decided to try The Devil’s Details on heroic elite.  It has been quite a while since I have ventured in here and I was rudely awaken by the onslaught of abishai as I made it further into the quest.  Needless to say I wiped in dramatic fashion.  I will have to try to get my revenge later.  Later that night, I logged on with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) and I took him into the quest Impossible Demands on epic hard with my new lioness and my onyx panther and owlbear.  Although Kolll suffered a few defeats, he did complete the quest and picked up 16 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  Kolll also picked up seven slayers in the King’s Forest as his way to the quest as well as the random encounter Money and Life.  He completed the optional objectives for saving the hostages, defeating Warleader Speitar and slaying the spider pet Akorstra.  I still had some time left, so I did a quick favor run with Kolll and ran through the Sacred Helm before calling it a night (picked up the Cloven-Jaw Longbow for the effort).

During Wednesday, I logged on with Containment (Level 8 Cleric) and Cannock (Level 8) Druid and I took them into Three Barrel Cove for some daily slayer action.  They collected 186 slayers which included Ilmarin Tychoon, Ithun Orenah, Vitia, Dulse, Dybesh Relix, and Strinati.  Containment also hit the 500 slayer mark and found a few more explorer points.  After that run, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen (Level 12 Rogue) and I took them into the Grey Moon’s Den: Extermination.  On the way to the quest, they picked up 11 slayers.  They also completed the optional objective for slaying Blizzard and all of the trolls.  Erdrique also picked up a monster manual deed for ooze exterminator IV (account award) while Sttollen picked up a monster manual deed for human expertise (account award).  That was all I was able to get through on Wednesday as I spent the rest of the night with my wife for our weekly date night.

For Thursday, my single quest run consisted of another dual boxing episode with Charlock (Level 16 Fighter) and Stoorage (Level 15 Fighter) who both ventured into the Red Fens.  While out there, Charlock collected 104 slayers while Stoorage collected 107 slayers (with a minor slayer potion).  They also came across Crooktooth, Kar Xyr, and Nab Ren.

Friday, I kicked things off by dual boxing with Lorrikk (Level 13 Monk) and Stoorage and entered the Red Fens for some slayers.  They both collected 117 slayers and came across Mudfoot, Fencreeper, Kar Xyr, Nab Ben, Sharkbiter, and Gorger.  Lorrikk also picked up a monster manual deed of monstrous plant exterminator (1,100 experience).  Later that night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them Free Delera on elite.  They completed the optional objective for slaying the soul lock guardians.  Erdrique picked up 26 mysterious remnants while Sttollen picked up 12 mysterious remnants.  I then took Erdrique and Sttollen out into Searing Heights for more slayers.  They picked up 103 slayers and both hit the 750 slayer mark.  They also defeated Guck, Calcine, and Hazai Haatha.  Erdrique also picked up the monster manual deed for wolf exterminator IV and picked up another 3,390 experience.

To close out the week, I logged Erdrique and Sttollen during the mid-afternoon and I took them into the Searing Heights in hope to find their last rare encounter.  After a few attempts I finally came across the last rare encounter for them, Smolder.  They also came across and defeated Giallo and Ghamzee.  In doing this, Erdrique also picked up monster manual deeds for drow exterminator II, fire elemental exterminator II, fire elemental hunter, and fire elemental expertise II.  As a result, Erdrique picked up the fire elemental creature companion 🙂 and he and Sttollen completed the Searing Heights.

Needless to say it was a busier week than the week prior and just as diverse.  Erdrique and Sttollen are now going to finish making their stamp in Sorrowdusk Isle.  We’ll see what the rest of the new week has for me!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

The Week in Review, February 5th to 11th

Taking a look back at my quests this week, I realized that it was a lighter than normal week for me.  I didn’t kicked off my quest runs until Monday.  I started out with a slayer run where I took Kanndar (Level 13 Paladin) and Stoorage (Level 15 Fighter) into the Red Fens for some slayers during one of my many dual boxing efforts.  During that run, Kanndar picked up 99 slayers while Stoorage collected 123 (Stoorage was running a minor or a lesser slayer count boost).  They also came across the rare encounters: Kar Xyr, Vyx Ka, and Gorger.  Shortly after that run, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Shadowdancer) and I took him into the quest Demon Assault on heroic elite.  In the past, I have had a number of difficulties in here, even at level 20, because of my cleric hireling being just swarmed.  In this run, I actually did complete it however it was pretty rough.  I  suffered eight deaths and had to re-enter twice.  But it is now done!!  I also picked up a monster manual deed for Glaberzou hunter.  To close out the night, I logged on with Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) and Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and I thought them into Three Barrel Cove for some simple explorers, slayers, and rares because I was also playing our digital table top game.  They both picked up 230 slayers with Crawlller hit his 750 slayer mark.  They came across the rare encounters for Ilmarin Tychonn, Ithun Orenah, Vitia,  Thrum, Brine, Dulse, and Strinati.  Cannock looted the Sky Pirate’s Dagger during that run.  I called it a night after that.

I logged on Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and Suppply (Level 11 Paladin) and I took them hunting into Sorrowdusk Isle.  They collected 116 slayers and Harrgon picked up the rest of the explorer points.  They also came across Barxer and Saate.  After than run, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 11 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 12 Rogue) and I took them into Tangleroot Gorge and completed the Assault on Splinterskull story arc by completing The Last Move: The Way to Yarkuch and The Last Move: Yarkuch’s Last Stand.  I completed the optional objective for slaying Warmaster Muurj.  To close out the night, I logged with Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and I took him into Tomb of the Wizard King on epic normal.  Larrs picked up a monster manual deed for clay golum hunter (2,350 experience) and he also picked up scrolls for the Mummy Wrappings and Dustless Boots.  He also collected 52 fragments of the Token of the Twelve and received 11 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  He also completed the optional objectives for slaying all of the guardians, the eternal gatekeepers, and breaking into the vault.

I didn’t log into game again until Thursday when I dual boxed with Cantlin (Level 13 Sorcerer) and Stoorage and took them into the Red Fens for some slayers.  Cantlin picked up a monster manual deed for sahaugin exterminator (353 experience) and hit the 100 slayer mark.  Cantlin picked up 61 slayers while Stoorage received 76.  They also came across Sharkbiter, Beacon, and Riptide.  I then logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and dual boxed again and took them through The Grey Moon’s Den: The Trollish Scourge.  They collected nine slayers on the way to the quest and Erdrique picked up two monster manual deeds: troll exterminator I (423 experience) and troll hunter (2,034 experience).  They also collected the optional objectives for defeating all of the ogre collaborators and Shaman Herpostaw.  I didn’t get a chance to log in that night and didn’t log back in until Saturday.

On Saturday, I spent quite a bit of time working on some Cannith Crafting with Erdrique.  By the time I was done, I only had enough time to run one quest.  So I logged on Sttollen as well and took them both into Gwylan’s Stand on elite.  They made it through the quest without any issues but they only picked up one optional named monster: Maneater.  Sttollen did pick up the Roguebane Breastplate and they both picked up Gwylan’s Blade.

So overall it was a lighter week but the spread of quest runs was nice.  Had some runs through a few explorer areas, an epic quest run, and some more quests for Hammy and Erdrique.  Now time to move onto next week :)!!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Hitting Up Some Quests, January 29 to February 4

Well, this past week was much more productive than the week prior.  I didn’t get a chance to kick off the week until Monday.  I started Monday afternoon by taking Breyy (Level 7 Artificer) out into wilds of Korthos Island.  He collected 93 more slayers while out there.  After I ran Breyy, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 10 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 11 Rogue) and ran the quest The Graverobber.  While running The Graverobber on elite, Erdrique picked up 28 mysterious remnants while Sttollen picked up 76.  The run went fairly smoothly.  Monday night, I took Burlland (Level 15 Purple Dragon Knight) out into Korthos Island and collected 415 slayers, defeated Vekz Spluhr and Ciccic twice, hit the 400 and  750 slayer award mark, collected all rare encounters, and picked up the monster manual deed for human exterminator for 330 experience.  After he finished the Korthos Island slayer area, I took Burlland out into the Cerulean Hills.  Burlland collected the 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 slayer marks.  He also located all of the explorers and took out Thaalan, Ebony, Lotigath, Kargoth, and Twinfang.  Burlland also collected two monster manual deeds one exterminator deed for orcs (gained 1,100 experience) and another one for fiendish lion (2,200 experience).  I did this while also playing during our weekly digital table top game.

I started out on Tuesday by logging in with Erdrique and Sttollen and taking them into the Searing Heights for my slayer run.  They took out Itharn Ushu, Shute Ruggzen, Giallo, and Ghamzee and collected another 194 slayers.  After that run, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter) and attempted to do Demon Assault on elite once again.  I haven’t had much luck on this lately and this go around wasn’t any different.  I had some buggy AI issues with my hirelings and went down in a flame of glory :).  I did collect a monster manual deed for dretch hunter though.  That was the last run I was able to try on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, I took Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) into the King’s Forest where he collected 38 slayers, defeated at least five dire bears, and picked up two commendations for the villagers of Eveningstar by completing the random encounter for The Antidote which all finished all of his random encounters for the Villagers of Eveningstar.  Shortly after than run, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them through The Missing Party quest in the Delera’s chain.  I completed the optional objectives for slaying all of the Omaren guardians.  I called it a night after that run to spend date night with my beautiful wife :).

I didn’t get a chance to run a slayer run or a mid-day run on Thursday but I did long on Thursday night with Breyy.  I took back into Korthos and completed the quests Stopping the Sahaugin, Necromancer’s Doom, and Sacrifices.  As I made my way from quest to quest I picked up 39 more slayers in Korthos Island.  For Sacrifices, I completed the optional objective to free all of the slaves, slaying Drenyl Fallow, and defeating the arcane skeleton.

I didn’t log on Friday night, as I fell asleep and before new it it was 2:30 am, lol.  But I did get on Saturday night.  I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen once again and this time I got up with Wasabisan and we headed off into The Pit on elite.  We had an interesting time in there but we wound up completing it with just a little bit of an issue in the electricity room.  We completed the optional objectives for slaying Chieftain Ryssyssal, slaying High Priest Shylssass, slaying the Avatar of Juiblex, and destroying some eggs.  Erdrique picked up a monster manual deed for troglodyte exterminator II (netting him 1,380 experience) and he also picked up a total of 27 mysterious remnants.  Sttollen, looted a Docent of Acid and a Muck’s Doom (which I passed on to Wasabisan).

So overall, not a bad week.  Not as full as my  typical set of week’s but I still had a nice variety of runs.  I hope everybody else had a nice set of runs as well.  Thanks for reading and happy hunting!!

Another Week of Questing, January 15 to January 21

This past week, I took on a wide variety of quests.  I started things out on Sunday, January 15th, when I took Erdrique (Level 10 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 11 Rogue) into The Temple of Elemental Part One.  I had a few problems making my way through the dungeon, in particular with some randomly spawning traps that weren’t in the passage when I first passed through but then appeared later.  This was a minor problem though.  Overall, I progressed nicely until I made it to the end fight.  At that point I rand into quite a bit of problems.  The air elemental spawned as a champion and I had a tough time dealing with him.  In the end, I died way too many times at the end fight and finally gave up.  I’m hoping I can come back to this quest and get my revenge soon.  I did complete the optional objectives for slaying 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 enemies.  That was the only bit of questing I tried on Sunday.

On Monday, the only thing I was able to do was to run Cannock (Level 8 Druid) through the Tangleroot Gorge explorer area while I was also playing during my digital PNP group.  Cannock collected 434 slayers, finished collecting all of the rare encounters, and came across Gharjat twice, Jarak three times, Xassak, Vilesting, Clamor, and Kroshk.  I also came across Jana twice.

Tuesday, I didn’t log in at all.  This was because of a long day at work which carried well into the night.  Basically I  was just too wiped out to do anything.  But on Wednesday, I took Sttollen and Erdrique into the Searing Heights for my regular slayer run.  They both collected 120 slayers and defeated only one rare encounter, Ghamzee.  They both hit the 400 slayer mark and I completed all of the explorer points with Sttollen.  Shortly after that run, I took Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter) into the Assault on the Aerie of the Slave Lords.  It was the first time I had a chance to look at the quest.  While in there, mind you I was also doing this on heroic elite, I completed monster manual deeds for hell hound exterminator I (1,759 experience) and clay golem exterminator (2,559 experience).  However, I didn’t get a chance to complete it because I ran out of time and had to logout.

Thursday, I did a simple slayer run with one of my iconics, Izmit (Level 15 Shadar-ki), who I took into Korthos Island.  He collected 146 slayers and took out Zeer and Vekz Spluhr.  I then brought on Erdrique and Sttollen once again and took them through The Scondrel’s Run.  They had no problem making it through the quest and completed the optional objective for defeating the minotaur lord.  That night, I brought on Sttollen and Erdrique once again.  This time I took them into Taming the Flames on elite.  Sttollen had some difficulties in there.  By the time  things were said and done, Erdrique collected a monster manual deed for fire elemental exterminator (1,130 experience) and the both picked up a monster manual deed for human hunter (1,400 experience).  They completed the optional objectives for slaying the mephits, fire elementals, and earth elementals.  Erdrique collected 26 mysterious remnants and Sttollen collected 9 mysterious remnants.

To close the week out, I logged on with another of my iconics, Burrland (Level 15 Purple Dragon Knight) and I took him into Korthos Island.  He collected 93 slayers and took out Zeer and Cicic.  He also collected the monster manual deed for rat exterminator (330 experience).   After that quick run, I logged on with Hamllin and took him back into Assault on the Aerie of the Slave Lords.  This time, partly because I knew what to expect, I made my way to the end of the quest and had an interesting time with the end fight.  In the end, I last long enough to complete the quest.  I look forward to doing this quest at level.  Hamllin collected two more monster manual deeds, one for clay golem exterminator II (account award) and one for mudman hunter (2,359 experience).  He looted a Hardened Hide Helm in the last quest.  That was the last run I did for the week, primarily because I fell asleep 🙂 and didn’t wake back up in time to log back in.

I hope everybody else had a fun week!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Crunching Down the Numbers of My Monster Manual-Part 6

It’s been quite some time since I took a look at my monster manual.  The last time I looked at the numbers of my monster manual was with Hamllin back last March where I looked at the number of enemies he has come across and defeated.  One thing I have realized, looking back at this post, is that the links to all of my graphs appear to have “expired.”  I guess that is what I get for trying to use Facebook to save those images.  I’m going to have to see if I can save my images elsewhere.  In any case, I wanted to complete that analysis by looking further into the defeats Hamllin has suffered.  Now this data is obviously a little old so these numbers have changed but it is still fun to look at them.

Similar to what I saw with Erdrique, the tends I noticed here showed that Hamllin’s defeats by monster type tended to vary, slightly,  from those across my whole account. Hamllin’s  top five adversaries were humanoids, aberrations, player races, undead, and monstrous races (Table 1 and Figures 1 and 2).  For the entire account the top five enemy types that accounted for the most of my characters death were player races, humanoids, undead, aberrations, and monstrous humanoids.  So although the monster races that accounted for the majority of Hamllin’s deaths varied by rank when compared to my account, those were still the top five in both categories.  Across my entire account, Hamllin accounted for just about 11% of total deaths..

The next thing I wanted to look at was Hamllin’s kill ratio and his death rate and how these statistics compared to my account as a whole.  I explained how this statistics are calculated back in this blog post.  The idea behind these statistics is to get an idea on how dangerous the various types of enemies that are recorded in the monster manual that my characters encounter in DDO really are by trying to standardize encounter rates.  Basically they are two simple statistics, averages for the number of monsters my characters kill per character death (kill ratio = enemy kills / character deaths) and the average number of deaths my characters suffer per enemy death (death rate = character deaths / enemy kills).  Of these statistics, the death rate is probably the most telling because the higher this number the more dangerous this monster is to my characters (meaning I get killed more often against these monsters).  Ok, enough explanations, let’s look at some numbers.

Tables 2 and 3 and Figures 3 and 4 illustrated these trends.  Hamllin’s highest kill ratio were for monstrous humanoids, animals, giant, and undead.  These particular ratios were well over 1,000.  Basically, Hamllin encountered these enemies quite often and suffered relatively few defeats against them.  Now, one thing I must point out here, this statistic is only valid for enemies that my characters suffered at least one kill against during their questing.  This is because the equation is not functional if my characters have never been killed by a monster category (you can’t divide by 0).  Comparing these trends account wide, the highest kill ratio was for animals, miscellaneous, and vermin.  So the trends do vary between Hamllin specifically and for my entire account.

Figure 4.  Death rate by monster type for Hamllin and my account.

Looking at the death ratio statistic, the most dangerous enemies Hamllin encounters were aberrations, humanoid, player races, undead, and giants.  A comparison to the death rate statistic account wide showed some divergent trends.  Account wide, dragons, aberrations, humanoids, and undead accounted for the top five deadliest enemies.  One thing to take note here is the jump of dragons in the death ratio statistic compared to when I did this same analysis for Erdrique.  This because I started coming across dragons much more frequently once they were added into the monster manual and with my higher level characters.  And their deadliness is reflected in the highest death ratio statistic for my acount :).  At the time I did this, Hamllin hadn’t encountered any yet so their impact on him wasn’t applicable.

I took a broader look at Hamllin’s defeats and compared them to my account as a whole across monster manual volumes (Table 4-6 and Figures 5-7).  Across the seven volumes (Prologue + Volumes 1 thru 6-all that were present at the time I copied the data over), the monsters in Volume 1 accounted for the majority (24 deaths) of Hamllin’s defeats than any other volume.  Comparing the trends of Hamllin’s defeats to all of my characters, the trends differed slightly.  Hamllin suffered the majority of his defeats from monsters in Volum 1, while across my entire account the majority of deaths were due to monsters in the Prologue.  Hamllin’s second leading volume was Volume 3 while account wide it was Volume 1.  Taking a look at the percentages that Hamllin accounted for by volume is also interesting.  Hamllin accounted for less than 10% in the majority of the volumes, but in Volumes in 1 and 3 the number of deaths he suffered accounted for 21% and 15% across my account, respectively.

Figure 7.  Death rate by monster manual volume for Hamllin and my account.

Perhaps the funnest trends were exhibited by looking at the number of defeats by monster race (Tables 7-12 and Figures 8-15).  The monster races that accounted for the top five most defeats for Hamllin were hobgoblins, beholders, humans, troglodytes, and wraiths.  These trends definitely reflect those I saw when I looked at defeats by monster type.  Comparing these to the top five for my account; humans, beholder, skeletons, hobgoblins, and troglodytes we see a large similarity, again this is reflected when looking at monster type as well.  What I found really interesting is that Hamllin accounted for over 35% of my account’s defeats against wraiths and hobgoblins.  Looking at the opposite trends, monsters that accounted for the least number of deaths for Hamllin (excluding those that Hamllin hasn’t suffered a defeat against) include orcs, skeletons, sahaugin, dwarf, ogres, and wolves.  At the time I pulled this data, Hamlin hadn’t suffered a defeat against 52 different monster races, at least to date (a good portion of these he hadn’t yet encountered).  Account wide, this number is only 22 races.

Taking a a more detailed look at the monster races that accounted for Hamllin’s most defeats, beholder’s had the lowest kill ratio and the highest death rates, indicating that these monsters are the most dangerous encounters for him, at least with those from the top five in defeats.  These trends are similar across my account.  Looking at the kill ratio and death rate statistics for those races that accounted for the fewest defeats, orcs and ogres were the most dangerous for Hamllin.

The last analysis I did was too look at the top 10 deadliest monster races for Hamllin.  Taking a look at the kill ratio and death rate statistics, the top 10 deadliest races for  Hamllin include: beholders, wraiths, troglodytes, hobgoblins, bugbears, orcs, humans, ogres, dwarves, and kobolds.

These trends I have observed with Hamllin are similar to what I expected.  Hamllin has had a good impact on these numbers for my account, but nearly as much as those as Erdrique has.  This makes sense, I play Erdrique much more than anybody else.  I really need to update these numbers.  We have had a few more additions to the monster manual since I last copied down these numbers not to mention new variations and more quests of varying difficulties which have no doubt affected these numbers.

Thanks for reading everybody!!  The next thing I want to do is took at Kolll’s stats and see how they compare to my account as a whole.  Happy hunting in DDO everybody!!
