Week of Jumping, Quest Runs February 1st to February 4th

With the Risia Ice Games going strong, a large portion of my DDO activity this week has been centered on Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) and doing a large amount of ice jumping.  This week, I have substituted my morning slayer runs and daily after work runs to the Risia Ice Games and collecting those white, blue, and purple coins.  My goal is to have collected 100 purple coins and to turn them in before the Risia Ice Games end this weekend (well actually ending the morning of Monday, February 8th).  So far, I have exactly half that number of purple coins.  We’ll how the rest of the weekend turns out with my jumping :).

Kolll on the mast and preparing to jump.

So, although I was doing a lot of ice jumping, I was still also getting some questing in.  All of my actual quest runs occurred during my regular nightly routines.  I kicked things off on Monday night by taking Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) into the quest Undermine on elite.  Undermine is just one of those quests where you can get through it extremely smoothly or wind up having a rough time.  I figured if I made it through the minefield without any deaths then everything would be good.  I also playing during our digital table top D&D session as well, so I was also distracted.  In any case, I made it up to and through the minefield without a single death.  However, once I made it past the minefield, I got killed three times: once just at the bridge and twice while fighting Kaboom and his cronies.  The first time I got killed was because my hireling wasn’t with me, for whatever reason, and the other two times were just bad luck.  However, I did complete it.  I also picked up 12 mysterious remnants and picked up Kobold Exterminator III in my monster manual for over 1,700 experience.  As for the optional objectives, I was able to destroy Rhyolite (the huge earth elemental), Cascade (the water elemental), and the boulder.  I was quite happy with the boulder as it was the first time I completed that objective on my own.  Now the only quest that Hammy needs to complete the Attack on Stormreach chain is Seigebreaker.

Kolll swimming back to the boat after a successful jump.

I logged on Tuesday night with Charlock (Level 16 Fighter) and I took him into the quest Hiding in Plain Sight on elite, as I would like to get him through the Restless Isles quests.  Although he was slightly over level for the quest (quest is level 12 on elite), I still wound up getting a nice chuck of experience for it.  I didn’t have any issues making my way through the quest but discovered that I needed to use the DM’s Vision (from wearing the Voice of the Master and Mantle of the Worldshaper together) to find the hidden door as my detect secret doors clicky from Teraza’s Sight wasn’t good enough.  Charlock collected three monster manual deeds while working his way through the quest: Halfling Hunter I (1,600 experience), Dwarf Exterminator III (4,700 experience), and Ogre Exterminator I (1,100 experience).  Charlock also completed the four optional objectives: destroy 75 shipping containers, take the documents, defeat the Aurum blockade, and defeat the Aurum officials.

Kolll on the boat house and prepping for another set of Risia jumps.

On Wednesday, the only thing I was able to work on was some of the Risia Ice Game jumping.  I didn’t log in that night because Wednesday’s are date night.  Thursday was a different story.  I was scheduled to bring on Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Legendary Dreadnaught) and to start the Sands of Menechtarun for some epic questing.  The first quest I wanted to tackle was The Chamber of Raiyum, also know as the Tomb of the Wizard King.  On the way out to the quest, I took some time to take on some slayers and collected another 29 gnoll slayers and 65 undead slayers.  The gnoll slayers boosted me over the 750 slayer mark for that faction.  I also came across General Tanakh, Palumak the Scourer, and Whirling Ozann.  I picked up the Bow of Elements (Air) from Whirling Ozann.  After the quick slayers, I entered the Chamber of Raiyum on epic hard and I must say I had a very good time :)!!  I didn’t come across any major issues at all while making my way through this extensive pyramid.  As I made my way through the quest, I collected Mummy Exterminator IV which netted me about 10,000 experience.  I also completed the all optional objectives which include defeating Akvan, Mehrdad, Rahab, Hafez the Lion, Hami the Jackal, and the Eternal Gatekeepers.  As a result of killing all of the named encounters, I was also able to get access to the treasure room and complete that optional objective as well.  I collected two scrolls, Scroll of Unkor’s Cleaver and Scroll of the Vulkoorim Fighting Leathers.  I also picked up 56 Token of the Twelve Fragments and a +3 Strength tome from a breakable :).  In the chests I looted a Token of the Twelve and Silken Mail.  For a quest reward I picked up 21 Commendations of Valor.  The only thing I didn’t complete was taking out the den mother but she didn’t spawn for me during this run.  Overall, it was a great run indeed!!

It is a beautiful night to do some jumping.

Kolll scanning the Harbor and prepping for his next jump.

So my quest runs this week varied from hitting up a lower lever quest in the Harbor to epic Wizard King.  I also got a lot of Risia Ice Game jumping in and I’m halfway to my goal of 100 purple coins.  I hope the weekend is just as much fun :).  I plan on taking Erdrique back into the Desert for the rest of those quests and would like to get through Spies in the House.  I also plan on continuing with Kolll and the Risia Ice Games.  I hope everybody else had a great week and I hope you all have a great weekend as well.

Kolll wondering how many participants the locals of the Harbor have seen in the Risia Ice Games.

Looking at Hiding in Plain Sight

Last night I took Charlock (Level 16 Fighter) through the quest Hiding in Plain Sight.  Hiding in Plain Sight, better known as HIPS, is a free to play quest that is located in the Harbor.  This quest actually extends the Baudry Cartamon quest line while at the same time opening up the storyline that leads us to the Restless Isles.  The quest is actually bestowed by an Inquistive Ingaram who is residing in the Wayward Lobster.  The Inquisitive is investigating the issues and troubles of Baudry Cartaman with respect to his shipping business and with his chief rival, Hazadill.  As we learn more about what is going on, we realize that Baudry is concerned that his fellow employees are working against him and for Hazadill.  He asks us to check on this possibility so we venture back into the same warehouse we helped to protect in our early days in the Harbor as a young and bright adventurer.

Coming across Hazadill’s henchmen in the sewers connected to Cartaman’s warehouse.

Hiding in Plain Sight can be quite challenging at level.  It is also a relatively long quest, which is a little ironic concerning that the Protect Baudry’s Interest quest is extremely short.  One thing about Hiding in Plain Sight is that it is laden with breakables.  One of the quest optional objectives is to destroy 75 shipping crates.  I also find it funny that Baudry doesn’t seem to mind that you destroy a large portion of barrels in his warehouse and I even wrote about that a while ago here.

Charlock taking the opportunity to break some barrels in Baudry’s warehouse.

So what else is Baudry shipping?

The vast majority of the quest occurs in the Stormreach Sewers under the Harbor.  As you enter the warehouse you catch notice of two individuals hanging out by a secret door and then see one take off.  As you defeat the lone worker and descend down the bath to the sewers, you encounter a wide variety of things.  First off, it doesn’t take very long before you start running into various types of traps.  Hiding in Plain sight contains some wicked traps that include acid spray traps, poison spray traps, spinning blades, sliding blades, and large slicing blades.  There is also at least one hidden door in the sewers that hides a contingent of cartel forces and conceals a room filled with breakables and a chest.

Charlock meditating for his next battle in the sewers.

Charlock making his way through the sewers to find Hazadill.

Charlock exploring the sewers on his way to find Hazadill.

The vast majority of the enemies you encounter are humanoids of some sort.  These include halflings, humans, warforged, elves, dwarfes, bugbears, and ogres.  There are also a few other critters including a slime or two, some defenders (mithral and adamantine), and a nest of darkfang spiders.  We basically run into two different factions when we make our way through these sewers, those from Hazadill’s cartel and those from the Aurum, who appear to be working with Hazadill.  The Aurum representatives appear to be casters while the cartel enemies are more melee oriented, including a number that can sneak up and attack you like a rogue.  Hazadill is a bugbear and he is protected by two of his bugbear buddies (Froz and Radek) as well as a member of the Aurum team.

Taking out some of the members of the Aurum who are helping Hazadill.

This particular quest contains a number of “highlights” that make the quest memorable.  First off, it actually carries you through a few of the low level quests that you made it through when you first came to the Harbor with those being Protect Baudry’s Interests and Information is Key.  It is curious to wonder if Osgood has anything to do with Hazadill.  There is also a part of the dungeon where Hazadill’s forces are actually dealing with the dangers with using the Harbor sewers as you stumble upon them fighting off some slimes.  That always brings a smile to my face, watching another enemy having to deal with slimes for once.  Another memorable point for this quest is nest of darkfang spiders that make their home about halfway through the quest and behind a trapped door.  I’m not sure how the Hazadill’s troops move back and forth through this area but they have to move through these spiders to get to Hazadill’s lair.  Makes one wonder if Hazadill has accrued some pets over the years.

Charlock waiting for the goons to deal with the slimes.

Stumbling across some spiders in HIPS.

The quest also contains a small by notable swimming portion to it.  To make it Hazadill, you have to swim through a series of tunnels that are lines with spinning blade traps that raise up and down from the base of the floor.  This tunnel is just past the spider nest.  At the end of the tunnel is a super huge blade (actually a few blades) that conceal the bottom of the shaft.  At the bottom of the shaft, there is a possibility that the trinket Bottle of Air can be found.  Another fun factoid, in one of the side rooms just before the end fight with Hazadill, is a stash of explosive barrels that evidently come from the explosive expert Philver Sharpwood, who has been having issues with the Quickfoot gang, if you remember from the quest An Explosive Situation.  Makes you wonder about him as well.

Charlock isn’t looking forward to going down there.

Luckily these spinning blades are avoidable with some patience.

Now that is a vicious looking set of blades.

Charlock blowing up a bunch of explosives that are marked from Philver Sharpwood.

When HIPS was first released, the end fight was quite challenging.  Hazadill tended to through up a lot of Otto’s Sphere of Dancing and he has the ability to self heal as well as some of his fellow groupies.  It isn’t as difficult now as it used to be.  But, it can still be challenging at level.

Finally encountering Hazadill and his lieutenants.

Charlock fighting Hazadill as he heals himself at the end of HIPS.

If you are interested in a medium length quest for the level 10 to 14 range, HIPS would be a good once to try.  It has a diversity of traps, some potentially lethal enemies, plenty of breakables, and some fun little lore mechanics.  Check it out when you get a chance.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in HIPS!!

Hitting a New Level, Questing the Weekend July 10th to July 12th

This past weekend was a nice and productive weekend for my main character Erdrique (Level 14 Rogue).  I started the weekend by taking Erdrique through the Red Fens wilderness area for my Friday morning slayer run. That afternoon, I took Hamllin (Level 16 Fighter) through the Red Fens as well.  Friday night, I logged back on with Erdrique and I took him back out in the Red Fens to burn off the last of a Major Slayer Potion I had active at the time.  I was then joined by Hellbanisher and we decided to hit up the majority of the level 9 quests I still needed to complete on elite.  We first completed the Gateway to Khyber and the Jungle of Khyber (better known as VON 3) on elite and then we promptly headed off to VON 4, Haywire’s Foundry.  After we completed VON 4, we headed back out to the Red Fens and started to hit up the quests in that story line.  We first completed The Last Stand on elite and then we moved forward to Fathom the Depths.  After we completed Fathom the Depths, Hellbanisher had to log out but I continued on in the Red Fens.  I headed out to the Claw of Vulkoor and took on the fire giants and the scorpions on elite afterwich I was flagged for the quest Into the Deep.  I then headed over to the other side of the Red Fens and headed Into the Deep and completed the capstone quest for that storyarc.  After I completed Into the Deep I called it a night.

On Saturday, I had planned on knocking out the Threnal Arena and the Giant Caves as well as the Restless Isles but first wanted to do some more slayers in the Red Fens.  As I was hunting out in the Fens, I was surprised to see Hellbanisher log in.  Since Hellbanisher logged on, I changed up my plan and decided to work on some other level 9 quests.  Hellbanisher doesn’t have access to Threnal or the Restless Isles so I was planning on doing those when he wasn’t able to log in so that is why we switched up the plans.  So instead we headed off to House Phiarlan and took on the vampire in the quest The Church and the Cult.  I then noticed that I still had to complete the Shadow Crypt but Hellbanisher wasn’t flagged for the quest.  However, he had no problem “red dooring” the quest so he could get the experience out of it.  So we headed over to the Necropolis and completed the capstone quest to the Necro II series of quests.  We then headed out to the harbor and completed the quest Hiding in Plain Sight on elite.  After those three runs, Hell had to call it a night but I then went out to the Smuggler’s Rest and the Crystal Cove.  I wanted to get at least one more run through the event before it close for the weekend (I knew I wouldn’t be able to get through it on Sunday night).  After the run through the Crystal Cove, I called it a night.

Sunday was a relatively light day.  I had spent the day with my wife going to the beach and lounging around the house and didn’t get on until late in the night.  But I did get on with my low level druid, Cannock (Level 7).  Cannock recently completed all of the quests out in Korthos Island and now is working on his way through the Harbor.  I decided to take him through Arachnophobia and Home Sweet Sewer primarily because of my restricted time limit for the night.  After I knocked those solo quests out I then headed off to bed.

Overall, it was a strong weekend of runs.  Erdrique gained enough experience to hit level 14 after I completed Into the Deep on Friday night.  He is now making his way to level 15.  The only level 9 quests he still needs to complete are those secondary quests out in Threnal (The Threnal Arena and the Giant Caves).  After those I will be working on the Desert and the Necro III quests as well as the Level 11 quests in House Phiarlan and House Jorasco.  Looking forward to getting out into the Desert once again :).  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Quest During the First Weekend of the Year, January 2 to January 4

Continuing my theme of taking advantage of the experience bonus, I did the majority of my questing with Erdrique (Level 14 Monk) over the first weekend of the year.  I was able to move him from level 13 to 14 over the weekend.  On Friday, I took Erdrique out into the Red Fens and worked on his slayer mark.  After a run through the Red Fens, I then took Erdrique back into the challenge, Lava Caves: Circles of Power.  I then ran into some computer issues where my whole machine was just running extremely slowly causing a huge amount of lag in DDO.  While I was struggling with my computer, Khamels logged in and waited patiently for me to resolve my issues.  I rebooted my computer and logged back in where I grouped up with Khamels and we tackled all four quests out in the Red Fens on elite: The Last Stand, Fathom the Depths, The Claw of Vulkoor, and Into the Deep.  Once we completed those on elite, we called it a night.

For Saturday, I took Erdrique back out into the Red Fens to continue to work his 5,000 slayer mark.  I then took him out into the challenge Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Behind the Door.  I then ran out into House Jorasco and completed the quest the Keeper’s Sanctuary on elite.  I then logged out for the afternoon but logged back on later that night and decided to start the Restless Isles quests.  First off, I completed Hiding in Plain Sight on elite by taking down Hazadill and his cronies.  I then headed out to the Restless Isles and spent some time collecting some slayers, explores, and one rare as I made my way to quest give for the Slavers of the Shrieking Mines.  I then headed down into the Slavers of the Shrieking Mines and had little problems in the quest, except for one ogre champion who was resistant to almost all of my attacks.  I also was worried when I lost a few wildmen from my slay living guard effect.  But in the end I was able to knock out the quest on elite with only a single death and top that off I looked my first Ring of the Ancestors.  After my run through the Shrieking Mines, I called it a night.

I brought Erdrique on once again early Sunday I took into the Red Fens once again.  I then took him out into the Lava Caves: Circles of Power.  I was taking advantage of my wife working during the day and enjoying my last day of vacation.  After completing Circles of Power, I head out to do some grocery shopping and didn’t log back in until later that night.  However, I logged back in with Stoorage (Level 11 Fighter) who was on my premium account and kicked off my return to my normal questing routine.  I took Stoorage out into Three Barrel Cove and completed the Legend of Two-Toed Tobias on hard.  Unfortunately that was the only quest I was able to run that night as I was also working on my blogs at the same time.

So, the experience boost is over and I have done a large amount of questing with Erdrique over the last two weeks with the holiday vacation.  I moved him from level 11 to 14 and he is well on his way to 15.  Things should get back to normal this week but the past weekend and week prior were productive for me.  I hope the same as true for all of you!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy questing!!

Variety of Questing This Week, November 10th to November 13th

This week, I ran quite a variety of quests and slayer zones.  As usual, my questing began with my Monday morning slayer run.  This Monday, I was scheduled to run Charlock (Level 13 Fighter) who I took out into the Red Fens.  That afternoon I logged on with Hamllin (Level 13 Fighter) who I took into the quest Hiding in Plain Sight on elite.  I had actually put up this run in the LFM panel and was joined by one other as we took down Hazadill and his goons .  Later that night, while I was working on my digital PNP game, I logged on with Lorrikk (Level 11 Monk) and took him through the quest the Haunted Library on elite.

Tuesday was a unique day which resulted in me getting more questing done than normal.  This was because Tuesday was Veteran’s Day which meant I had the day off .  So, after taking my wife out to eat for breakfast, I logged in with Lorrikk once again, as I was scheduled to take him through Sorrowdusk Isle for my morning slayer run.  I then logged on with Erdrique (Level 8 Monk) and took him out into the wilds of Three Barrel Cove.  While marauding the wilderness zone, I took the opportunity to finish up the Fire Caves and ran the quest Brood of Flame.  After making my way through those fire mephits and elementals, I then headed over to the The Legend of Two-toed Tobias and then over to the quest Prove Your Worth.  I completed all of them on elite without problems.  On Tuesday night, I logged on with Garrrin (Level 21 Barbarian/Fury of the Wild) and took him through Under the Big Top on Epic Normal (which I wrote about here), and then I took him out over the Cannith Challenge Extraplanar Palace: Buying Time and then I took him over to quest The Last Stand on Epic Normal in the Red Fens.  The Last Stand, I had completed on a few other characters, but I was still curious to see how well Garrrin would handle himself in this quest.  He did really well and I don’t believe I was ever in trouble in failing the quest.  After that run I called it a night.

Wednesday was a light day of questing for me, as usual. In the morning, I took Crawlller (Level 6 Ranger) out into Tangleroot Gorge to do hunt down some slayers.  That afternoon, I then logged on with Hamllin and took him out to Ataraxia’s Haven and hit up the quest Reclamation on elite.  However, this was the one hiccup in my questing this week.  I was running though in time, and although I have tried this before, I figured it could try it again and try to zerge through this quest.  However, I only made it past the first foreman.  When I made it to the second foreman I misjudged the number of duergar in the room and was quickly overwhelmed.  So the next time I log in with Hamllin for a mid-day run I will need to get my revenge .  That was the final run for me for the day as the rest of the night I spent with my wife for date night.

For Thursday, I took Berann (Level 7 Barbarian) into the Waterworks for some kobold hunting.  Lather that afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique and I took him back out into Three Barrel Cove and completed all of the rare encounters and then headed into the quest, Ghost of a Chance.  I completed it on elite without many issues.  One thing I definitely can say, after completed all of the level 5 quests out in Three Barrel Cove, is that the experience has really been raised quite a bit out there which is really nice .  I was scheduled to play Cantlin (Level 11 Sorcerer) on Thursday night who I took into Sorrowdusk Isle and completed the last two quests of the Grey Moon story arc: The Grey Moon’s Den: Trollish Scourge and the Grey Moon’s Den: Extermination.  I had a slight problem with The Grey Moon’s Den: Trollish Scourge as I got killed moving through the powerful force trap that protects the bridge at the end of the quest to get the last two trolls to spawn.  However, besides that the quests went really well.

So as you can tell, it was pretty fun week.  I played characters ranging from level 6 all way to level 21 and took on stand alone quests as well as quests from common adventure packs.  I hope everybody else had a good time as well .  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting over the weekend!!

Lighter than Usual Runs This Weekend, June 20 to 22nd

The runs over the weekend were relatively light for me.  Mainly because we lost power due to strong storm on Friday night and because I got on late on Saturday night.  However, I did get some questing in :).  My questing began on Friday morning with a typical slayer run in the new heroic Three Barrel Cove.  I was scheduled to stake Stoorage (Level 10 Fighter) into the pirate island to gather some slayers.  It was my first time venturing into the new area and I thought the development team did a wonderful job with Barrel’s Bottom, the new public city area on Three Barrel Cove.  After gathering some more slayers, I called it a morning and headed out to work.  I didn’t get a chance to do an early afternoon run but I did get a chance to log in Friday night after the storm passed by and the power came on.  I logged on with Erdrique (Level 13 Druid) and joined up with Khamels and we took on Hiding in Plain sight on elite.  Now Erdrique is ready to head out to the Restless Isles.  After that run we both called it a night.

On Saturday, I logged back on with Erdrique and joined up with Rosnia.  We ventured out into the Red Fens and I worked on my slayers while Rosnia flagged for Into the Deep.  Once Rosnia flagged for Into the Deep we both moved out to the underwater sahaugin base and had a good time fighting the deep water elite soliders and many shaman and casters.  We completed the quest without any issues and decided to try the Hezerou.  Unfortunately the Hezerou had other ideas for us, lol.  In either case, we did complete the quest, which was Erdrique’s last level 9 quest to get done.  Time to him up the level 10 quests.  After that run, both Rosnia and I called it a night.

On Sunday, I was scheduled to log on with Lorrikk (Leve l1 Monk).  Sunday was a late night as well, but I did get Lorrikk through Storm the Beaches and he is now ready to tackle The Tide Turns.  I also spent some time playing around on the guild airship and messing around with the guild amenities.  After that, the weekend runs were done and I logged out for the night and headed to bed.

Definitely a light weekend for me.  Hoping I can catch up on some of missed scheduled runs later this week.  We’ll see how it goes.  Hope everybody else had a nice weekend as well.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Random Thoughts About Our Friend Baudry Cartamon and the Quest Hiding in Plain Sight

Yesterday, I took Erdrique through Hiding in Plain Sight.  Hiding in Plain Sight is bestowed by Inquistive Ingram in the Wayward Lobster of the Stormreach Harbor.  Talking to the Inquistive Ingram, we learn that he was hired by Baudry Cartamon to look into who/what has been responsible for his hardship as of late.  While talking to the Inquistive and going through his dialog I realized something strange concerning the storyline.  The Inquistive mentions how we helped Baudry earlier on in our questing careers and stopped/ruined his chief competitor Hazadill when we stopped Hazadill from delivering the stolen goods to the Emerald Claw.  However, this isn’t what we did as of Update 19.  When the Shadowfell Conspiracy was released, the storyline for Baudry Cartamon quest string was modified and it was changed so that Hazadill was working for a bunch of pirates out of Three Barrel Cove and not for the Emerald Claw.  I actually blogged about this shortly after Shadowfell Conspiracy was released.  However, the sister storyline was not modified.  So now we have a disconnect here.

Blog-Do you think Cartamon is happy about his crates? photo Blog-ErdsplinteringCartamonscrates_zps85e30827.jpgDo you think Baudry will mine be breaking his crates for ransack bonus?

However, a different thought came to me once we talked to Baudry and he let his go into his warehouse once again to look for clues.  The first thing I did when I entered the quest was to start breaking his crates…well this is ironic…concerning the first time I was in this warehouse I was sent in here to protect a crate…I wonder if he will get upset with me when he realizes that half of his crates were turned into splintered wood so that I could get ransack bonus and find whatever little goodies he had in there .  Hm, maybe I will just blame it on Hazadill’s goons and say it was their fault…or perhaps it was the fault of the Aurum.

LOL, well that’s it for now.  Thanks for reading and happy smashing!!
