A Look Back, Quest Runs March 25 to 27

So, I have made it a personal mission now to do everything in my power to catch up in my backlog of blogs.  I’m currently about 70 blog posts behind where I should be :(.  Needless to say, this year has just been rough for me in trying to stay on top of everything.  This has been primarily because of my hectic work activity this year.  All of the time I was able to devote last year during work downtime has literally disappeared this year and I still haven’t found a good way to compensate.  But I’m slowly doing what I can to make it happen.

In any case, I’m going to continue with my series of quest runs that I have gone through, primarily because I took the time to document what I did and because I have the screenshots to show the questing.  I also find it fun to look back at what I did.

So, back during the last weekend in March (starting on Friday, March 25th) I didn’t run any quests during the morning or during the afternoon.  I actually didn’t get any questing in until Friday night, when I logged on with Erdrique (Level 30 Rogue/Shadowdancer, that is what is now, not then) and I took him into The High Road (Epic) on my way to try the quest Detour.  While hunting out there Erdrique picked up 13 slayers allowing him to hit the fist slayer mark of 10 kills and he found one scroll, number 6.  In Detour, Erdrique was able to complete it on epic hard.  While he was making his way through the quest, he picked up a monster manual deed for human exterminator V and picked up 3,459 experience for that effort.  I also was able to knock out four dire bears during the quest and I was able to defeat all of the mercenaries.  I also picked up three mysterious remnants and received 28 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  That was all I was able to get done on Friday night.

Moving to Saturday, I logged back on with Erdrique and I took him back into The High Road (Epic) to continue on that quest string.  While hunting in The High Road, Erdrique picked up another 57 slayers.  While roaming around the High Road I completed the random encounters for Spectral Sightings, Trader Travels, Tree Full of Spiders, Spider of Unusual Size, Rebels Underground, Orc Intuition, and the Druid Brothers.  I also found Oriphaun’s 5th journal and collected the slayer marks for 25 and 50 slayers.  After completion of the random encounters I collected one Village of Eveningstar Commendation, two clerics of Amaunator commendations, and two purple dragon knight commendations.  The reason I was heading back into the High Road was to take on the quest Rest Stop.  I entered on epic hard and didn’t come across any significant problems.  I completed the optional objectives for talking to the adventures, finding the missing party, and defeating the Umbral Gargoyle Lord.  I picked up 14 mysterious remnants defeating the monster champions I encountered and as a quest reward I picked up 27 commendations of valor.  I called it a night after that.

It is time to explore the abandoned and rustic castle of Rest Stop.

To close out the weekend, my quest runs were light on Sunday.  I was scheduled to log on with Lorrikk (Level 13 Monk).  So I also brought on Suppply (Level 11 Paladin) who is one of my characters on my premium account and I decided to dual box questing with them.  Lorrikk still needed to complete Stormcleave so I attempted to make my way through the quest.  I had started relatively late as well, so I was running late on time to get the quest done.  Everything was going well, up until I made it to the raiding party optional objective.  At this point I hit a very large lagspike.  By the time the spike recovered, I was dead.  Instead of trying to recoup the lost time, I just decided to call it a night and try it again later.  So the weekend ended on a sour note :(.

However, it was still a good weekend overall with Erdrique knocking out a few more quests from the High Road and making more progress to his first epic reincarnation.  I hope everybody else had a good weekend as well.

Questing in Rest Stop

Earlier in the week, I took a look at the quest Rest Stop with Erdrique (Level 22 Rogue/Fury of the Wild) on heroic elite.  Rest Stop is one of the quests within the High Road of Shadows quest chain.  I hadn’t taken any character in it before so it was a completely knew experience for me.  The quest giver is Freda Gambosi, another Harper agent, located in Eveningstar not far from the cart that takes you to the High Road.  The quest entrance isn’t far from where you enter the High Road.

The one thing I found really cool about this quest was its setting.  The reason why the quest is called “Rest Stop” is because the setting for the quest is in the ruins of an old castle.  Evidently these ruins are commonly used by adventurers as a “rest stop” between their various questing adventures.  However, it also appears that the Netherese are hiding one of the Nether Scroll pieces somewhere in this expansive castle.

The atmosphere of the quest is quite medieval.  The castle is elegantly and beautifully designed and makes me wonder about the old castles from the Medieval European settings.  That is something I want to do is to visit some of those ancient structures and wonder how life must have been like during those times.  This quest gave me that sensation which I really enjoyed.  The enemies you encounter in here are nothing too noteworthy.  Of course you encounter the Netherese and their hired help as well as there umbral pets and shadows.  The traps consist primarily of spellwards.

What really makes this quest funny, or at least ironic, is that the entrance way to the castle is filled with would-be adventurers and explorers.  As you talk to them, you realize they don’t have a clue on what is going on here and what is even more funny is that one of them thinks they can get further into the castle then the few rooms they initially see when they enter.  Nobody takes the time to explore the fact that hallway with the torches, that hasn’t been used, could be a potential secret passage that is revealed by pulling the torch.  It was the first thing I thought of anyway and I’m by no means an experienced adventurer :).

Erdrique thinking about removing the torch just to see.

The overall length of the quest was a little bit longer than I had expected for a quest of “medium” duration.  I didn’t find it too hard and although you are traveling through a brick and mortar castle, it is pretty straight forward.  I did think that the optional to ability to disable and destroy the Netherese staves was pretty interesting.  I was only able to get one of them, as I used the bear trap on it.  The others I couldn’t get so I wasn’t able to complete that optional.

Overall, the quest fun and I really enjoyed its theme.  We don’t have a whole of quests that occur in a true castle, so it was a nice change of pace.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the HIgh Road.

Looking Back This Past Week, Quest Runs November 2nd to November 5th

This past week my quest runs were across a variety of levels and consisted of a number of slayer runs, adventures in the Night Revels, and regular questing.  I kicked things off by taking Rimuldar (Level 23 Wizard/Magister) out into the beautiful King’s Forest for my typical morning slayer run.  I’m going to have to print out a map of the King’s Forest and use it as a guide to find all of Elminster’s Messages so that I can get that completed, not only on Rimuldar but for all of my epic level characters as well.  During the afternoon, once I got back home from work, I took Erdrique (Level 22 Rogue/Fury of the Wild) out into The High Road and into the quest Rest Stop.  I found the quest Rest Stop pretty fun, particularly the location that it occurs in, a nice old crumbling castle.  Later that night, I had the opportunity to dual box once again.  I logged in with Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) from my premium account and Cannock (Level 8 Druid) from my VIP account and I took them through the quest  The Sacred Helm on elite and then I took them both out into the Night Revels and completed the quests Haverdashed and Under New Ravagement on level 7.

Tuesday I started my questing out by taking Garrrin (Level 23 Barbarian/Fury of the Wild) out into the King’s Forest for some of his own slayers.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) into the Sands of Menechtarun for even more slayers and then I took him out into the Night Revels and attempted Under New Ravagement.  I’m not entirely sure why, but I am struggling with Hamllin in the Night Revels quests at level.  I need to take a look at him and figure out what the deal is.  Later on Tuesday night, I logged on with Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and I took him into the quests The Last Stand and into Fathom the Depths on epic normal.  I also completed a run through the Night Revels and Under New Ravagement on level 21.  If you haven’t noticed I’m trying to get as many runs in with the Night Revels as I can.

Wednesday, as is typical, was a shorter day of questing because of my weekly date night.  I did some slayer runs that morning prior to work with Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and Containment (Level 7 Cleric).  This was another opportunity to do some dual boxing for me and I was also able to level Cannock up to 8.  I took them through the Waterworks, which was Cannock’s first venture down there.  My afternoon run was with Erdrique who went back into the High Road to run End of the Road.  I was a little surprised with this particular run. Up to this point, I didn’t find the High Road quests to hard with Erdrique on elite, although he is level 22 and these quests are level 20 on elite.  But this time, I ran into some trouble and wound up suffering a total wipe when I grabbed too many of the Netherese and their sellswords.  I’ll have to try to be a little more careful during my next run through.

To close the week out on Thursday, I started things out by taking Tuhnn (Level 15 Bladeforged) into the Sands of Menechtarun.  Tuhnn went off to hunt down some scorrow during this go round and hit the latest slayer mark.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Hamllin and took him for his turn into the desert, although he is working on his undead slayers.  I also took him into Under New Ravagement, once again, for some revenge and he barely made it through it (although I did completed it!!).  During the night, I was planning on logging in with Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and so I took the opportunity to dual box once again but also logging in with Suppply (Level 10 Paladin).  I took them both into Sorrowdusk Isle and completed the Iron Mines: Freeing Achka and Iron Mines: Justice for Gust.  I didn’t get a chance to take these two through the Night Revels though :(.

Overall, it was a pretty nice mixture of questing.  I had some low level questing with Crawlller, Cannock, and Containment.  Some mid-level questing with Harrgon and Suppply and high level questing with Hamllin and Tuhnn.  I even had a good amount of epic questing with Erdrique, Larrs, Garrrin, and Rimuldar.  All of these included runs through slayers, quests, and the Night Revels.  I’m hoping for just as productive a weekend and I hope I will have enough ingredients to get those augments for Erdrique.  We’ll see!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Night Revels this weekend!!
