Knocking Out Some More Slayer Areas

One of things that I like to try to do with my questing schedule it to make sure I get some time to complete explorer zones. I usually try to do some explorer area runs right after I get home from work during the typical work week and on Monday nights when I’m also playing digital PNP with some friends (since my attention can be diverted from DDO on those nights for quite a bit of time).  Recently, I completed a few of these areas.

Erdrique (Level 13 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 14 Rogue), while dual boxing, completed Sorrowdusk Isle.  It took me forever to finally come across Vermilo during this go round but he eventually sprang forward.

screenshot00718_zps0sxiidmf

Erdrique and Sttollen finally find Vermilo to finish up Sorrowdusk Isle.

Cannock (Level 9 Druid) completed Tangleroot Gorge, which was ironic because he completed Three Barrel Cove prior to Tangleroot Gorge, primarily because he was also dual boxing with my other account and the majority of my characters on that account happened to need Three Barrel Cove.  Therefore, Cannock saw more time in that area.  But he eventually completed Tangleroot.

screenshot00726_zpsl3ca9pjr

Cannock finally finishes Tangleroot Gorge.

To end things out Containment (Level 9 Cleric) maxed out Three Barrel Cove, where he received a lot of help from Cannock and Berann (Level 10 Barbarian).

Getting some help, Containment completes Three Barrel Cove.

Now Erdrique and Sttollen get to move onto the Red Fens (where they will both be guzzling down some slayer potions as reaching 7,500 max kills in that small zone is a huge task to do) while Cannock and Containment get to move on to the Searing Heights were they get to challenge some Sulatar drow and Blood Tide pirates.  Looking forward to it!!

Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in those explorer areas!!

Working On Another Week, February 12th and 18th

My quest runs this week included some runs across a mulitude of levels, as well as various outcomes.  To kick the week off, I logged on with Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and Suppply (Level 11 Paladin) and I took them into The Grey Moon’s Den: The Trollish Scourge.  On the way to the quest, they both collected 11 slayers for Sorrowdusk Isle.  Once I made into the quest I ran into some difficulties while playing Harrgon.  Harrgon was ripped apart five times by various champions.  It really emphasized how under geared he really is and I will need to work on that.  Hopefully I can rebuild my stock of essences and have Erdrique (Level 11 Bard) craft Harrgon some equipment.  In the end, I had to have Suppply bail out Harrgon but I was able to get the quest completed.  They also took out Shaman Herpostaw as well as all of the ogre collaborators.

On Monday, I logged back on with Suppply and Harrgon and took them back out into Sorrowdusk Isle for some slayers while I was also playing my weekly digital table top game.  While hunting in Sorrowdusk Isle, they collected 270 slayers out there.  Harrgon hit his 750 slayer mark and Suppply picked up two monster manual deeds, spider (1,200 experience) and scorpion (1,500 experience) exterminator II.  They also defeated the rare encounters Saate (2), Vermilo (2), Teargon, Kremen, Kurmer, Furley, and Noozer.  Harrgon was also able to finish collecting all rare encounters as well.

I logged on Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and I took him into the King’s Forest for some slayers.  While out there, he defeated two dire bears, one drow priestess, and came across the random encounters for the Knight’s Plight and Knight’s Collar.  He also picked up a purple dragon knight commendation and 46 slayers.  Shortly after that run, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Shadowdancer) and I decided to try The Devil’s Details on heroic elite.  It has been quite a while since I have ventured in here and I was rudely awaken by the onslaught of abishai as I made it further into the quest.  Needless to say I wiped in dramatic fashion.  I will have to try to get my revenge later.  Later that night, I logged on with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) and I took him into the quest Impossible Demands on epic hard with my new lioness and my onyx panther and owlbear.  Although Kolll suffered a few defeats, he did complete the quest and picked up 16 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  Kolll also picked up seven slayers in the King’s Forest as his way to the quest as well as the random encounter Money and Life.  He completed the optional objectives for saving the hostages, defeating Warleader Speitar and slaying the spider pet Akorstra.  I still had some time left, so I did a quick favor run with Kolll and ran through the Sacred Helm before calling it a night (picked up the Cloven-Jaw Longbow for the effort).

During Wednesday, I logged on with Containment (Level 8 Cleric) and Cannock (Level 8) Druid and I took them into Three Barrel Cove for some daily slayer action.  They collected 186 slayers which included Ilmarin Tychoon, Ithun Orenah, Vitia, Dulse, Dybesh Relix, and Strinati.  Containment also hit the 500 slayer mark and found a few more explorer points.  After that run, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen (Level 12 Rogue) and I took them into the Grey Moon’s Den: Extermination.  On the way to the quest, they picked up 11 slayers.  They also completed the optional objective for slaying Blizzard and all of the trolls.  Erdrique also picked up a monster manual deed for ooze exterminator IV (account award) while Sttollen picked up a monster manual deed for human expertise (account award).  That was all I was able to get through on Wednesday as I spent the rest of the night with my wife for our weekly date night.

For Thursday, my single quest run consisted of another dual boxing episode with Charlock (Level 16 Fighter) and Stoorage (Level 15 Fighter) who both ventured into the Red Fens.  While out there, Charlock collected 104 slayers while Stoorage collected 107 slayers (with a minor slayer potion).  They also came across Crooktooth, Kar Xyr, and Nab Ren.

Friday, I kicked things off by dual boxing with Lorrikk (Level 13 Monk) and Stoorage and entered the Red Fens for some slayers.  They both collected 117 slayers and came across Mudfoot, Fencreeper, Kar Xyr, Nab Ben, Sharkbiter, and Gorger.  Lorrikk also picked up a monster manual deed of monstrous plant exterminator (1,100 experience).  Later that night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them Free Delera on elite.  They completed the optional objective for slaying the soul lock guardians.  Erdrique picked up 26 mysterious remnants while Sttollen picked up 12 mysterious remnants.  I then took Erdrique and Sttollen out into Searing Heights for more slayers.  They picked up 103 slayers and both hit the 750 slayer mark.  They also defeated Guck, Calcine, and Hazai Haatha.  Erdrique also picked up the monster manual deed for wolf exterminator IV and picked up another 3,390 experience.

To close out the week, I logged Erdrique and Sttollen during the mid-afternoon and I took them into the Searing Heights in hope to find their last rare encounter.  After a few attempts I finally came across the last rare encounter for them, Smolder.  They also came across and defeated Giallo and Ghamzee.  In doing this, Erdrique also picked up monster manual deeds for drow exterminator II, fire elemental exterminator II, fire elemental hunter, and fire elemental expertise II.  As a result, Erdrique picked up the fire elemental creature companion 🙂 and he and Sttollen completed the Searing Heights.

Needless to say it was a busier week than the week prior and just as diverse.  Erdrique and Sttollen are now going to finish making their stamp in Sorrowdusk Isle.  We’ll see what the rest of the new week has for me!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Hitting Up Some Quests, January 29 to February 4

Well, this past week was much more productive than the week prior.  I didn’t get a chance to kick off the week until Monday.  I started Monday afternoon by taking Breyy (Level 7 Artificer) out into wilds of Korthos Island.  He collected 93 more slayers while out there.  After I ran Breyy, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 10 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 11 Rogue) and ran the quest The Graverobber.  While running The Graverobber on elite, Erdrique picked up 28 mysterious remnants while Sttollen picked up 76.  The run went fairly smoothly.  Monday night, I took Burlland (Level 15 Purple Dragon Knight) out into Korthos Island and collected 415 slayers, defeated Vekz Spluhr and Ciccic twice, hit the 400 and  750 slayer award mark, collected all rare encounters, and picked up the monster manual deed for human exterminator for 330 experience.  After he finished the Korthos Island slayer area, I took Burlland out into the Cerulean Hills.  Burlland collected the 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 slayer marks.  He also located all of the explorers and took out Thaalan, Ebony, Lotigath, Kargoth, and Twinfang.  Burlland also collected two monster manual deeds one exterminator deed for orcs (gained 1,100 experience) and another one for fiendish lion (2,200 experience).  I did this while also playing during our weekly digital table top game.

I started out on Tuesday by logging in with Erdrique and Sttollen and taking them into the Searing Heights for my slayer run.  They took out Itharn Ushu, Shute Ruggzen, Giallo, and Ghamzee and collected another 194 slayers.  After that run, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter) and attempted to do Demon Assault on elite once again.  I haven’t had much luck on this lately and this go around wasn’t any different.  I had some buggy AI issues with my hirelings and went down in a flame of glory :).  I did collect a monster manual deed for dretch hunter though.  That was the last run I was able to try on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, I took Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) into the King’s Forest where he collected 38 slayers, defeated at least five dire bears, and picked up two commendations for the villagers of Eveningstar by completing the random encounter for The Antidote which all finished all of his random encounters for the Villagers of Eveningstar.  Shortly after than run, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them through The Missing Party quest in the Delera’s chain.  I completed the optional objectives for slaying all of the Omaren guardians.  I called it a night after that run to spend date night with my beautiful wife :).

I didn’t get a chance to run a slayer run or a mid-day run on Thursday but I did long on Thursday night with Breyy.  I took back into Korthos and completed the quests Stopping the Sahaugin, Necromancer’s Doom, and Sacrifices.  As I made my way from quest to quest I picked up 39 more slayers in Korthos Island.  For Sacrifices, I completed the optional objective to free all of the slaves, slaying Drenyl Fallow, and defeating the arcane skeleton.

I didn’t log on Friday night, as I fell asleep and before new it it was 2:30 am, lol.  But I did get on Saturday night.  I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen once again and this time I got up with Wasabisan and we headed off into The Pit on elite.  We had an interesting time in there but we wound up completing it with just a little bit of an issue in the electricity room.  We completed the optional objectives for slaying Chieftain Ryssyssal, slaying High Priest Shylssass, slaying the Avatar of Juiblex, and destroying some eggs.  Erdrique picked up a monster manual deed for troglodyte exterminator II (netting him 1,380 experience) and he also picked up a total of 27 mysterious remnants.  Sttollen, looted a Docent of Acid and a Muck’s Doom (which I passed on to Wasabisan).

So overall, not a bad week.  Not as full as my  typical set of week’s but I still had a nice variety of runs.  I hope everybody else had a nice set of runs as well.  Thanks for reading and happy hunting!!

Another Week of Questing, January 15 to January 21

This past week, I took on a wide variety of quests.  I started things out on Sunday, January 15th, when I took Erdrique (Level 10 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 11 Rogue) into The Temple of Elemental Part One.  I had a few problems making my way through the dungeon, in particular with some randomly spawning traps that weren’t in the passage when I first passed through but then appeared later.  This was a minor problem though.  Overall, I progressed nicely until I made it to the end fight.  At that point I rand into quite a bit of problems.  The air elemental spawned as a champion and I had a tough time dealing with him.  In the end, I died way too many times at the end fight and finally gave up.  I’m hoping I can come back to this quest and get my revenge soon.  I did complete the optional objectives for slaying 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 enemies.  That was the only bit of questing I tried on Sunday.

On Monday, the only thing I was able to do was to run Cannock (Level 8 Druid) through the Tangleroot Gorge explorer area while I was also playing during my digital PNP group.  Cannock collected 434 slayers, finished collecting all of the rare encounters, and came across Gharjat twice, Jarak three times, Xassak, Vilesting, Clamor, and Kroshk.  I also came across Jana twice.

Tuesday, I didn’t log in at all.  This was because of a long day at work which carried well into the night.  Basically I  was just too wiped out to do anything.  But on Wednesday, I took Sttollen and Erdrique into the Searing Heights for my regular slayer run.  They both collected 120 slayers and defeated only one rare encounter, Ghamzee.  They both hit the 400 slayer mark and I completed all of the explorer points with Sttollen.  Shortly after that run, I took Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter) into the Assault on the Aerie of the Slave Lords.  It was the first time I had a chance to look at the quest.  While in there, mind you I was also doing this on heroic elite, I completed monster manual deeds for hell hound exterminator I (1,759 experience) and clay golem exterminator (2,559 experience).  However, I didn’t get a chance to complete it because I ran out of time and had to logout.

Thursday, I did a simple slayer run with one of my iconics, Izmit (Level 15 Shadar-ki), who I took into Korthos Island.  He collected 146 slayers and took out Zeer and Vekz Spluhr.  I then brought on Erdrique and Sttollen once again and took them through The Scondrel’s Run.  They had no problem making it through the quest and completed the optional objective for defeating the minotaur lord.  That night, I brought on Sttollen and Erdrique once again.  This time I took them into Taming the Flames on elite.  Sttollen had some difficulties in there.  By the time  things were said and done, Erdrique collected a monster manual deed for fire elemental exterminator (1,130 experience) and the both picked up a monster manual deed for human hunter (1,400 experience).  They completed the optional objectives for slaying the mephits, fire elementals, and earth elementals.  Erdrique collected 26 mysterious remnants and Sttollen collected 9 mysterious remnants.

To close the week out, I logged on with another of my iconics, Burrland (Level 15 Purple Dragon Knight) and I took him into Korthos Island.  He collected 93 slayers and took out Zeer and Cicic.  He also collected the monster manual deed for rat exterminator (330 experience).   After that quick run, I logged on with Hamllin and took him back into Assault on the Aerie of the Slave Lords.  This time, partly because I knew what to expect, I made my way to the end of the quest and had an interesting time with the end fight.  In the end, I last long enough to complete the quest.  I look forward to doing this quest at level.  Hamllin collected two more monster manual deeds, one for clay golem exterminator II (account award) and one for mudman hunter (2,359 experience).  He looted a Hardened Hide Helm in the last quest.  That was the last run I did for the week, primarily because I fell asleep 🙂 and didn’t wake back up in time to log back in.

Starting off 2017 with Some Questing

I have been writing up short summaries of my quest runs for quite a while now.  I mainly do this to highlight the various types of quest there are in DDO and for me to help track my own progress over time.  I used to do compile two blogs a week to highlight these runs, one blog post would track my questing from Mondays to Thursdays and the second post would highlight my questing from Friday through Sunday.  With the start of the new year I want to continue the general thoughts of summarizing my questing runs but I want to one post to cover the week. Of course, this blog will cover two weeks, since I didn’t get a chance to do one last week :(.

To start the new year off, I took Erdrique  (Level 10 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 11 Rogue) through Mirra’s Sleepless Nights, Purge the Herectics, Sorrowdusk Isle, The Iron Mines: Freeing Achka, and The Iron Mines: Justice for Grust.  While making my way through Mirra’s Sleepless Nights I completed the optional for locating and destroying the source of the wailing.  In Purge the Heretics, I completed the optional objectives to slaughter the halfling mercenaries and all of the commoners.  When I went into Sorrowdusk Isle, to pick up and start the quests for Grey Moon, I collected 125 slayers for Erdrique and Sttollen, located all explorer points; collected the awards for slaying 10, 25, 50, and 100 slayers; and located and defeated Teargon, Furley, and Saate.  Once inside  the Iron Mines, I came across the rare encounter Powder in Freeing Achka and in Justice for Grust I defeated Corrosion, Chef Grank, and Champion Prienyl.  However, while running through Justice for Grust, Erdrique got  squashed by an ogre champion, which made the quest quite interesting.

On January 2, I took Erdrique and Sttollen into the Searing Heights explorer area to kick things out for the day. While out there, I collected 226 slayers for Erdrique and Sttollen.  Erdrique also picked up a monster manual deed for orc hunter and received 2.260 experience.  Both Erdrique and Sttollen collected the rewards for 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 kills.  The kills included the rare encounters for the first mate, Ghamzee, Calcine, Giallo, and Itharn Ushu.  Erdrique also collected all of the explorer points.  Later in the day, I took Erdrique and Sttollen back into Searing Heights and this time I collected all of the explorer points with Sttollen.  I also collected 138 more slayers and collected the rare encounters for Shute Ruggzen, Hazai Haatha, and Cruor Russo.

I didn’t log back into DDO until Wednesday, January 4th.  I took Garrrin (Level 23 Barbarian/Primal Avatar) out into the King’s Forrest.  While out there, Garrrin collected 45 slayers including six dire bears and one astral panther.  Shortly after that run, I then logged Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Shadow Dancer) and took him into the quest Memoirs of an Illusionary Larcenor on heroic elite.  It was the first time I tried this particular quest and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  I’m embarrassed to say that I wound up getting killed near to the end fight, primarily because I wasn’t paying attention to the fact my cleric hireling went down.  But I did my revenge, eventually :).

For Thursday, I started my questing by dual boxing with Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) into Tangleroot Gorge.  Crawlller already has this area maxed out but Cannock collected another 50 slayers before I switched characters out.  They also took out the wandering giant, Kroshk.  Later that night, I logged on with Containment (Level 8 Cleric) and Cannock (once again) and took them through The Cloven Jaw Scourge: Caverns of Shaagh.  Making my through that part of Shan-to-Kor, I completed the optional objectives for slaying the three ogres, slaying the three witch doctors, the three large elementals, and 75 hobgoblins.  Dealing with the champions, Containment collected 15 mysterious remnants and Cannock collected 11.

To kick off the weekend, I took Tuhnn (Level 16 Bladeforged) out into the Sands of Menechtarun for my regular slayer run.  I forgot to record my slayer numbers but I did collect a monster manual deed for zombie exterminator and finished locating all of the explorer points.  Tuhnn also looted a pair of the Gloves of the Falcon.  After that run, I took Hamllin back into Memoirs of an Illusionary Larcener and this time I was able to complete it on heroic elite with little difficulty.  That night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them, first, through Gladewatch Outpost and then the Forgotten Caverns.  While in Gladewatch Outpost, Erdrique picked 50 mysterious remnants and while in Forgotten Caverns they took out the optional for slaying Moldfang.  After running through the Forgotten Caverns, I took Erdrique and Sttollen out into Tangleroot Gorge and completed Doom of the Witch Doctor: The Way to Zulkash and Doom of the Witch Doctor: Zulkash, Herald of Woe.  To close out the night, I took Erdrique and Sttollen into Devil Assault and defeated all of the waves.  In that run, Erdrique collected 17 mysterious remnants and Sttollen collected eight.

Continuing with my weekend runs, on Saturday I logged back on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them through the quest Dead Predators, The Bounty Hunter, Caged Trolls, and the Bloody Crypt.  While in the Bounty Hunter, Erdrique collected another monster manual deed for warforged hunter gaining him 471 experience.  We also collected the optional objectives for freeing Annelisa and killing the troll chieftain and Ras Clowery.  Erdrique picked up two more monster manual deeds in Caged Trolls, dwarf exterminator (1,130 experience) and dwarf hunter (2,260 experience).  We also completed the optional objective of plundering the Emerald Claw’s treasure cache.  The end the night, in the Bloody Crypt we collected the optional objective for slaying Gullet the Famished, defeating the Black Abbot’s legion, and slaying three priests of the Crimson Heart, Burning Heart, Immortal Heart, and Sanguine Heart.

The beginning of the second week, I started out by taking Stoorage (Level 15 Fighter) and Izmit (Level 15 Shadar-ki) into Caged Trolls and The Bounty Hunter for some simple favor runs.  I completed the optional for plundering the Emerald Claw’s treasure cache in Cage Trolls and for the Bounty Hunter we completed the optional objectives for freeing Annelisa and slaying the troll chieftain and Ras Clowery.

On Monday, January 9th I logged on with Stoorage once again and this time I dual boxed with my other fighter Charlock (Level 16).  I took them into the Red Fens to work on another slayer run.  While out there, Stoorage collected 118 more slayers (with the help of a slayer potion) while Charlock collected 95 more slayers.  They also encountered Sharkbiter and Vyk Ka.  Shortly after that run, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them through the quest, Bargain of Blood.  I completed the optional objectives for finding the Deneith party, freeing the slaves, and destroying the assassination logbook.  That night, I switched characters and logged on with Wapoyei (Level 24 Cleric/Divine Crusader) and I took him into the High Road while I was also playing with our digital PNP game.  Wapoyei collected 81 more slayers and completed the random encounters for Wild Warriors, Trader Travels, and the Wood Woad.  I collected one Commendation: Cleric of Amaunator.

I logged on Hamllin to kick off things on Tuesday and I took him into the Ruins of Gianthold (Heroic) for some slayers.  He came across two of the rare encounters, Lord Cirrus and Uthgur.  As for the slayers, he collected 68 Storm Heart slayers and two Storm Fist slayers.  After that run, I then took Hamllin into the next quest of the Slave Lords: Secret of the Slavers’ Stockade.  I completed the two optional objectives to explore the abandoned tower and to speak to Lady Morwin Elissar.  Later on Tuesday night, I took Berann and Containment, dual boxing, through the Tomb of the Burning Heart and The Mystery of Delera’s Tomb.  The completed the optional objective of shattering the burning brigade in the Tomb of the Burning Heart.  In Delera’s, Berann collected a monster manual deed for skeleton hunter earning 1,356 experience and the objectives for slaying Omaren Deathguard, Omaren Sentinel, Shade of Destruction, and 40 ghostly skeletons.

On Wednesday, January 11, I took Suppply (Level 11 Paladin) and Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) into Sorrowdusk Isle.  They both collected 103 slayers and took down the rare encounters Thanolin and Vermilo.  Suppply also finished collecting all of the explorer areas.  That was the only run I was able to knock out on that day.

I took Wapoyei into The High Road, once again, to start things off on Thursday.  Wapoyei collected 40 slayers and came across the random encounter for Spectral Sightings.  After my slayer run, I took Hamllin into the quest Seigebreaker.  Hamllin looted a Mark of the Tzaryan Rrac and Garments of Equilibrium.  I completed the optional objectives for settng the tents on fire, poisoning the water supply, destroying the crates of provisions, and blowing up the explosive stockpiles.  He also defeated Tinkerstab, Skinny, Major Pain, and Brinky.  To end the night, I took Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) into the Chains of Flame on epic normal.  Sludgge collected a monster manual deed for mephit exterminator I and earned 423 experience.  Making his way through the multiple levels of the Burning City, he collected five fragments of the Token of the Twelve and a complete Token of the Twelve.  He also collected 11 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  As for the optional objectives, he spoke to Valgrim Force-Bound, defeated Valgrim’s elemental guards, freed Valgrim Force-Bound, spoke to Erath the Blinded, transferred Erath’s curse, defeated the ogre mages, and freed Erath.

To close the two weeks out, I took Erdrique and Sttollen through Storm the Beaches and The Tide Tuns to complete the Sentinels of Stormreach Story arc.  In Bargain of Blood, they completed the objectives for slaying pirates, more pirates, and even more pirates.  In the Tide Turns they completed the optional objective for activating the barriers in the north and south barracks and trapping the pirates.  Sttollen looted two Tarnished Heavy Deneith Chains while Erdrique looted the Torn Chitin Bracers and a Chimera’s Breath at the end of The Tide Turns.

So, a wide variety of runs over the first two weeks of the year that included epic and low level questing, numerous slayer runs, and range of character levels.  I hope everybody else had a great start to the year as well!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Thoughts on The General Manager

I have always thought that one of the more interesting encounters I have come across with my various characters in DDO is when they first meet up with the General Manager.  If you aren’t sure about who exactly the General Manager is, you will find him in the quest Bargain of Blood which is part of the Sentinels of Stormreach story arc and is located in the Searing Heights.  The General Manager is actually not one enemy but two enemies.  These two enemies are quite an unlikely pair with the General being a huge and powerful minotaur while the Manager is a wily kobold shaman.  When you come across them at the end of Bargain of Blood, the Manager is perched on top of the General.  As you battle them, you first defeat the General which results in the Manager falling down and then you battle the Manager to finish the quest.  Definitely an interesting sight.

So how did these guys ever meet?

But I always wondered how did these crazy creatures ever meet and how did they form such a close bond.  And on top of that, how did they ever get involved with Captain Tew and the Blood Tide Pirates?  Whenever I think of these two, I can’t help but think about the story of the lion and the mouse.  I see the kobold as being the mouse and the minotaur as lion.  Where the minotaur stumbles across the kobold during his foraging and initially wishes to make a meal out of him.  The wily kobold takes notice that the minotaur seems to be suffering from some type of ailment, that the minotaur seems to be expressing concern about as he prepares for his meal.  By offering to help the minotaur, the kobold successfully heals him and therefore saves his life and then becomes an influential and important friend to the minotaur.  It definitely seems like a plausible theory but is it the most likely?

Another possible, although rather more unlikely theory, is that Manager’s clan might have hired the General’s tribe as a source of protection.  Perhaps these two unusual comrades knew each other from a young age with this type of association and as a result they grew up and headed out into the world together.  The reverse could also be said, perhaps the General’s tribe captured or bullied the Manager’s clan into being their servants and then an unlikely friendship developed.  This friendship and commitment to each other could have been recognized by Captain Tew who then added both of them to the ranks.

So what is the deal with the Manager?

But looking at this connection more analytically, it could also be surmised that the Manager has literally charmed the General.  The Manager is a shaman after all.  It is not improbable for the Manager to know a number of dubious charming spells.  It could be that the General just thinks he likes the Manager, while in reality he is literally charmed to protect and to work as the Manager’s muscle.

Another plausible thought is that Captain Tew recruited both of these villains to be members of his crew.  As part of the Blood Tide pirates, these two somehow developed this strange and powerful bond that Captain Tew was quickly able to pick up on.  He probably noted that they could make a very formidable enemy if they were to work together and so he promoted that growth in hopes of taking advantage of the unique talents of both them.

In tandem, this unlikely pair is a strong and powerful enemy.  Be prepared for them when you hit the end fight of Bargain of Blood.  What do others thing?  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

So Where Are All The Women?

Awhile back I was running with Suppply (Level 10 Paladin) through the Searing Heights.  Searing Heights is a challenging explorer area at level (around the level 6 zone or so) found in the Marketplace, not far from the Twelve Enclave entrance.  The Searing Heights is primarily known for two factions: the Blood Tide Pirates and the Sulatar Drow Tribe.  The landscape is marked with one primary point of interest, the huge volcano that serves as the primary base of operations for the Sulatar Tribe.  I actually wondered about this specific volcano a while back here.

As I was taking Suppply through the adventure area, I realized something about the Sulatar Drow.  There doesn’t appear to be any female drow among them.  The whole encampment at the base of the mountain, within the mountain, and along the mountain is composed of male drow warriors, rangers, clerics, and wizards.  This trend extends to the wandering and scouting drow parties.  I’m not entirely sure why this is the case.  There are female drow characters in almost every other area in which they appear that I can think of.  There are women drow warriors in the Red Fens and among the Vulkoorim.  And there are certainly drow women among the drow of the Underdark.  So where are the drow women of the Sulatar Tribe in the Searing Heights?

Suppply coming across some male drow in the Sulatar encampment in Searing Heights.

Thinking about this logically, I wondered if the woman warriors are currently under some type of pilgrimage or if they are conducting some type of warrior-type right of passage.  These particular drow are definitely war-like and it makes me wonder if the different genders are required to undergo a different set of trials to become full fledge warriors within the Sulatar society.  I’m wondering if they have to purify their spirits in some fashion that has required them to leave the encampment in the Searing Heights under the watchful eyes of the male warriors.  I’m thinking that the female drow warriors and magic users have to be purified by some type of holy ritual that involves some sort of commitment to fire, lava, or some other type of flame.  In any case, it doesn’t seem like a very promising situation but I wonder if it allows the female drow warriors to gain some type of prestige over their male counterparts.

Coming across yet more male drow warriors in the Searing Heights.

In any case, it is definitely a little odd.  I wonder if we will ever really find out where they currently are.  What does everybody else think?

Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Searing Heights!!
