Starting off 2017 with Some Questing

I have been writing up short summaries of my quest runs for quite a while now.  I mainly do this to highlight the various types of quest there are in DDO and for me to help track my own progress over time.  I used to do compile two blogs a week to highlight these runs, one blog post would track my questing from Mondays to Thursdays and the second post would highlight my questing from Friday through Sunday.  With the start of the new year I want to continue the general thoughts of summarizing my questing runs but I want to one post to cover the week. Of course, this blog will cover two weeks, since I didn’t get a chance to do one last week :(.

To start the new year off, I took Erdrique  (Level 10 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 11 Rogue) through Mirra’s Sleepless Nights, Purge the Herectics, Sorrowdusk Isle, The Iron Mines: Freeing Achka, and The Iron Mines: Justice for Grust.  While making my way through Mirra’s Sleepless Nights I completed the optional for locating and destroying the source of the wailing.  In Purge the Heretics, I completed the optional objectives to slaughter the halfling mercenaries and all of the commoners.  When I went into Sorrowdusk Isle, to pick up and start the quests for Grey Moon, I collected 125 slayers for Erdrique and Sttollen, located all explorer points; collected the awards for slaying 10, 25, 50, and 100 slayers; and located and defeated Teargon, Furley, and Saate.  Once inside  the Iron Mines, I came across the rare encounter Powder in Freeing Achka and in Justice for Grust I defeated Corrosion, Chef Grank, and Champion Prienyl.  However, while running through Justice for Grust, Erdrique got  squashed by an ogre champion, which made the quest quite interesting.

On January 2, I took Erdrique and Sttollen into the Searing Heights explorer area to kick things out for the day. While out there, I collected 226 slayers for Erdrique and Sttollen.  Erdrique also picked up a monster manual deed for orc hunter and received 2.260 experience.  Both Erdrique and Sttollen collected the rewards for 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 kills.  The kills included the rare encounters for the first mate, Ghamzee, Calcine, Giallo, and Itharn Ushu.  Erdrique also collected all of the explorer points.  Later in the day, I took Erdrique and Sttollen back into Searing Heights and this time I collected all of the explorer points with Sttollen.  I also collected 138 more slayers and collected the rare encounters for Shute Ruggzen, Hazai Haatha, and Cruor Russo.

I didn’t log back into DDO until Wednesday, January 4th.  I took Garrrin (Level 23 Barbarian/Primal Avatar) out into the King’s Forrest.  While out there, Garrrin collected 45 slayers including six dire bears and one astral panther.  Shortly after that run, I then logged Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Shadow Dancer) and took him into the quest Memoirs of an Illusionary Larcenor on heroic elite.  It was the first time I tried this particular quest and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  I’m embarrassed to say that I wound up getting killed near to the end fight, primarily because I wasn’t paying attention to the fact my cleric hireling went down.  But I did my revenge, eventually :).

For Thursday, I started my questing by dual boxing with Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) into Tangleroot Gorge.  Crawlller already has this area maxed out but Cannock collected another 50 slayers before I switched characters out.  They also took out the wandering giant, Kroshk.  Later that night, I logged on with Containment (Level 8 Cleric) and Cannock (once again) and took them through The Cloven Jaw Scourge: Caverns of Shaagh.  Making my through that part of Shan-to-Kor, I completed the optional objectives for slaying the three ogres, slaying the three witch doctors, the three large elementals, and 75 hobgoblins.  Dealing with the champions, Containment collected 15 mysterious remnants and Cannock collected 11.

To kick off the weekend, I took Tuhnn (Level 16 Bladeforged) out into the Sands of Menechtarun for my regular slayer run.  I forgot to record my slayer numbers but I did collect a monster manual deed for zombie exterminator and finished locating all of the explorer points.  Tuhnn also looted a pair of the Gloves of the Falcon.  After that run, I took Hamllin back into Memoirs of an Illusionary Larcener and this time I was able to complete it on heroic elite with little difficulty.  That night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them, first, through Gladewatch Outpost and then the Forgotten Caverns.  While in Gladewatch Outpost, Erdrique picked 50 mysterious remnants and while in Forgotten Caverns they took out the optional for slaying Moldfang.  After running through the Forgotten Caverns, I took Erdrique and Sttollen out into Tangleroot Gorge and completed Doom of the Witch Doctor: The Way to Zulkash and Doom of the Witch Doctor: Zulkash, Herald of Woe.  To close out the night, I took Erdrique and Sttollen into Devil Assault and defeated all of the waves.  In that run, Erdrique collected 17 mysterious remnants and Sttollen collected eight.

I took Wapoyei into The High Road, once again, to start things off on Thursday.  Wapoyei collected 40 slayers and came across the random encounter for Spectral Sightings.  After my slayer run, I took Hamllin into the quest Seigebreaker.  Hamllin looted a Mark of the Tzaryan Rrac and Garments of Equilibrium.  I completed the optional objectives for settng the tents on fire, poisoning the water supply, destroying the crates of provisions, and blowing up the explosive stockpiles.  He also defeated Tinkerstab, Skinny, Major Pain, and Brinky.  To end the night, I took Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) into the Chains of Flame on epic normal.  Sludgge collected a monster manual deed for mephit exterminator I and earned 423 experience.  Making his way through the multiple levels of the Burning City, he collected five fragments of the Token of the Twelve and a complete Token of the Twelve.  He also collected 11 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  As for the optional objectives, he spoke to Valgrim Force-Bound, defeated Valgrim’s elemental guards, freed Valgrim Force-Bound, spoke to Erath the Blinded, transferred Erath’s curse, defeated the ogre mages, and freed Erath.

So, a wide variety of runs over the first two weeks of the year that included epic and low level questing, numerous slayer runs, and range of character levels.  I hope everybody else had a great start to the year as well!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Questing from April 11th to April 14th

My quest runs from April 11th to 14th contained some epic level quests and slayer runs, some runs through the Anniversary party, some low level quest and slayer runs, and some time in Sands of Menechtarun.  Things kicked off on Monday when I took Rimuldar to Eveningstar and into the King’s Forest.  I didn’t have a whole a lot of time to do some questing prior to work but I did collect another 11 kills, with one of them being a dire bear, and I completed the random encounter for helping out the Eveningstar healer.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin into the Sands of Menechtarun and ventured into the Valley of the False Tombs and collected another 60 slayers in the undead category.  However, he only came across one of the rare encounters out there, The Thirsty One.  To close the night out, while playing my digital DnD game, I took Wapoyei into the Anniversary Party and collected four party favors after I completed all of the objectives.

On Tuesday, I started my questing with another one of my dwarves, Garrrin.  Like Rimuldar, Garrrin is working on his slayers in the King’s Forest.  Garrrin collected 18 more slayers while roaming around the grand forest including a dire bear.  He also came across the random encounter to slaves of many masters but I couldn’t defeat the drow fast enough and failed that encounter this particular time.  In the afternoon, it was Erdrique’s turn to head into the Sands of Menechtarun and during this run he made his way past the Windlasher Canyon and into the Scar to collect some scorrow slayers.  While out there he picked up six gnoll and 87 scorrow slayers.  He also took down Mendexethazz, Utach Sandcrawl, and Wokran-kull.  He also looted some interesting items from these chests including Frigid 12 (insightful fire resistance 12) of Tumble 12 Bracers (masterful craftsmanship), Sting, and an Alluring 5 (+5 Charisma) Ring of Combustion (66 Fire Spell Power).  My run Tuesday night was a dual boxing session with Berann and Containment.  I took both of them into quest, The Snitch to continue on with the Phiarlan Carnival Series.  They completed the optional objectives for slaying Rusty and in returning the letter.  At the end of the run, Berann scored 700 points of favor and his second rank in House Phiarlan favor and Containment reached 600 points of favor.

Wednesday, I started the day off with another dual boxing session, this time with Cannock and Crawlller.  I took them into Tangleroot Gorge, as Cannock was my primary focus for this run and he is still working on that area.  Crawlller already has this particular area maxed out.  While making my way through the jungle along the Tangleroot River, Cannock collected another 27 slayers and defeated the rare encounter Silkweave.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin back into the desert and into the Valley of the False Tombs.  He collected another 117 slayers and defeated the rare encounters Palumak and Whirling Ozan.  From Palumak, he looted a Dusk Heart.  Those were the only runs I made that day, as it was date night :).

Hamllin taking on Palumak once again.

To close out the week, all of my runs on Thursday were within the Sands of Menechtarun.  I started out by taking Tuhnn into the Burning Mountain Region to fight off the firebrand gnolls.  While hunting in the desert, Tuhnn collected 89 more slayers in gnolls.  He also found and defeated Haraja, Vorvand, and Lieutenant Ayurro.  By defeating Vorvand and Ayurro, he was able to complete all of the rare encounters in the desert.  He also looted the Gloves of the Falcon from Ayurro’s chest.  He also hit 750 gnoll slayers.  In the afternoon, I took Erdrique into the Menechtarun Desert and back into the Scar.  During this run, Erd picked up another six gnoll slayers and 88 scorrow slayers.  As a result, he hit the 1,500 slayer mark for scorrow.  He also came across Utach Sandcrawl and Volrune the Curate.  For my nightly run, I logged on with Sludgge and he also ventured into the sun baked Menechtarun Desert.  He also made his way to the Scar and to make his way to the quest, An Offering of Blood.  On his way to the quest, he collected 89 scorrow slayers.  Once inside the quest, Sludgge gathered a few monster manual deeds.  He picked up scorpion exterminator I for 423 experience, scorrow hunter for 2,260 experience, and scorrow exterminator for 1,130 experience.  During this run, Sluddge picked up two scrolls: Scroll of the Xuum and Scroll of the Bracers of Deftness.  He also picked up 41 fragments of the token of the twelve and received eight commendations of valor as a quest reward.

Overall it wasn’t a bad week.  I had a nice mixture of quest runs.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Questing into the Second Week of March, Quest Runs March 7th to 10th

During the second week of March, my questing was pretty much with mid-level characters or epic level characters.  It was also an abnormal week for me because I had to do some traveling for work to get some management training so I didn’t get as much questing in as I typically would.  I started out the week with my typical slayer run on Monday morning.  I took Wapoyei (Level 24 Cleric/Divine Crusader) into the High Road.  While out there I collected another six slayers and defeated the specter, The Eternal Wanderer.  Needless to say I didn’t have a whole lot of time to play that morning.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 18 Fighter) and I took him out into the Sands of Menechtarun for some slayers.  During this session, Hamllin focused on the gnolls and collected another 62 slayers in that area as well as taking down Stinkpelt.  That night, I logged on with Suppply (Level 10 Paladin) and Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and I took them into Searing Heights to run the quest Bargain of Blood.  It was another dual boxing session and I wanted to get my revenge from my horrible attempt at Bargain of Blood from the night before.  On the way out to the quest, I picked up another 13 slayers for Harrgon.  In Bargain of Blood, I was able to the complete the optional objectives for destroying the assassination logbook, meeting up with the House Deneith Party, and freeing the slaves.  After completing Bargain of Blood, and getting my revenge, I then headed off and to do the quest Under the Big Top.  As I made my way through the quest, I only picked up one optional objective and killed Maz’il’tilnik.  In the end chest, Harrgon picked up The Big Top and Diamond of +5 Hide while Suppply picked up the Antique Greataxe as a story arc reward for completing the Phiarlan Carnival Series.

On Tuesday morning, I was scheduled to play Neverwinter Nights II instead of the usual DDO.  I took my level 7 Spirit Shaman Ragnar further into the Warehouse in the Dock District of Neverwinter City.  For my afternoon run, I took Erdrique (Level 28 Rogue/Grandmaster of Flowers) into Sands of Menechtarun for some more slayers.  I also wanted to get something quick in before I headed out to Raleigh for my training.  While out there, I collected 57 gnoll slayers and came across Den Mother Fheena in the Windlasher Village.  That was all I could get in on Tuesday as I left shortly after that slayer run.

Ragnar participating in the battle in the warehouse.

Erdrique making his way to the desert.

I took my computer with me on my training trip in Raleigh and was able to get a few more runs in during the week.  On Wednesday, I logged on with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) and I took him into The Lords of Dust on epic hard.  Kolll picked up 54 fragments of the Token of the Twelve, eight mysterious remnants, the Golden Guile, a monster manual deed for Rhaksasha Hunter for 2,260 experience, and 17 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  However, that was the only quest I was able to complete.

Kolll taking down the cultists in Lords of Dust.

For Thursday,  I started out the day by taking Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) into the Ruins of Gianthold (Heroic) for some slayers.  Sludgge collected 51 Stormheart slayers, two Stormfist slayers, and one Stormeye slayer.  He also defeated the ogre mage, Uthger Runetusk.  That night I logged on with Kanndar (Level 13 Paladin) and Stoorage (Level 13 Fighter) and I took them both into the Tharashk Arena (VON 1) for another session of dual boxing.  The completed the optional objectives for defeating Angog the Champion, Myr’dril, the drunken ogres,  troll enforcers, Smashjaw, and Grogan.  I picked up a number of monster manual deeds during this run.  Kanndar picked up two monster manual deeds, one for minotaur hunter and another for kobold hunter, each awarding him 446 experience.  Stoorage collected a troll hunter monster manual deed for 1,943 experience.  Stoorage also looted a Diamond of +3 Intelligence.  That run closed out my activity for the week.

So, although it was an “off” week for me, I still had a number of interesting runs.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Last Weekend of February, Quest Runs February 26th to February 28th

My quest runs during the last weekend of February started out to be quite productive but as the weekend carried out I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked.  Kicking things off on Friday morning, February 26th I took Garrrin (Level 23 Barbarian/Fury of the Wild) into the majestic King’s Forest for my morning slayer run.  As Garrrin made his presence known to the denizens of the King’s Forest he picked up another 24 slayers (including a couple of dire bears), picked up an explorer point (Eliminster’s 4th message), and completed the rare encounters for freeing the purple dragon knight from his slaver collar (using brute strength to snap it) and money or life (freeing the villager from the bandits).  When I came back from work, I then logged on with Hamllin (Level 18 Fighter) and I took him into the challenge Lava Caves: Time is Money.  Hamllin completed the objectives for collecting 100 crystals, defeating the fire giant warlock, and sending kobolds through the teleporter 200 times.  Hamllin picked up 156 crystallized magma shards as a reward and gained enough experience to move up to level 18.

On Friday night, it was Erdrique’s (Level 26 Rogue/Grand Master of Flowers) turn to get in on the action.  Erdrique made his way through the Underdark to get to the portal to Sschindylryn.  While making his way to the portal to Sschindylryn, Erdrique freed three slayers from their collars, slayed the drider rogue, Hastrunn, and picked up another 22 slayers which granted up past the 200 total slayer mark for the Underdark.  In Sschindylryn, I defeated at least one blademaster, found missives one, five, and 11, defeated 16 drow (hitting the 10 slayer mark), defeated seven children of Lolth, and defeated Soldirn Dun’robar.  I then entered the quest The House of Rusted Blades on epic hard.  Making my way through the quest, I completed the optional objective for applying the corrosive liquor on all of the weapon racks.  From the end chest, I picked up the Duergar Waraxe of the Weapon Master and picked up 20 Commendations of Valor for a quest reward.  I then headed back into Sschindylryn to make my way to the next quest, The House of Broken Chains.  During my second romp through Sschindylryn, I picked up another 45 drow slayers and 5 more children of Lolth slayers (giving me credit for reaching 25 and 50 drow slayer marks and 10 chldren of Lolth slayer marks).  I also found missives 2, 7, and 15 and defeated the rare encoutners Soldirn Dun’robar and Tras’ekhan.  In the House of Broken Chains, I completed the optional objectives from freeing 5, 10, and the rest of slaves (except for those at the end fight).  I was awarded a Commendation: War Wizard from the end chest and picked up another 21 Commendations of Valor.  I called it a night after that run.

On Saturday, I took Erdrique back into Sschindylryn to tackle the next quest, The House of Death Undone.  While making my way through Sschindylryn I picked up another 17 drow slayers and another six children of Lolth slayers.  The House of Death Undone was an interesting run for Erdrique.  I entered the quest on epic hard.  I took out six astral panthers, at least 10 blademasters, one priestess of Lolth, and four guardian panthers.  I also completed the optional objectives for defeating Silan Szind, destroying up to 36 undead, and destroying all of the necromantic cauldrons.  I also had the unfortunate situation of blowing up my own chest in one of the cauldron rooms as well.  Erdrique also picked up 16 mysterious remnants, a Commendation: Clerics of Amaunter, a Commendation: War Wizard, and 21 Commendations of Valor as a quest reward.  That was the only quest run I was able to complete on Saturday as I worked on some character maintenance as well.

Making our way to the quest House of Death Undone.

Time to start the quest the House of Death Undone.

To close the weekend out, I logged on with Sludgge (Level 21 Rogue/Shadowdancer) and I took him into Haywire Foundry on epic normal.  While making his way through VON 4, Sludgge picked up two monster manual deeds, Warforged Exteminator I (423 experience) and Fire Elemental Exterminator (1,130 experience).  He also collected another 32 Token Fragments of the Twelve,  He completed the optional objectives for defeating the elementals in the beginning of the quest, defeating RC2 and RC1, turning off the flame vents in the forge room, and defeating 10 mithral defenders on the mad dash out of the quest.  As a quest reward, Sludgge picked up 11 Commendations of Valor.  Once I made it out of the quest I called it a night.

Sluddge starting his exploration of Haywire Foundry.

As I mentioned earlier, the questing over the weekend started out to be extremely productive.  I did run into some maintenance issues of the weekend though that kept me from making it an extremely productive weekend.  My quest runs were dominated with epic questing though, which is typically unusual for me.  Either way, it was still a fun weekend.  I hope everybody else had a great weekend as well!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Underdark!!

Gathering Some Epic Quests, Quest Runs January 29th to January 31st

I kicked off the weekend by taking Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) into the Ruins of Gianthold (Heroic).  Sludgge is working on gathering his 1,500 Stormheart Slayers.  During this quick morning session, he picked up 63 Stormheart slayers, 2 Stormeye slayers, and 1 Stormfist slayer.  He currently stands at 1,295 Stormheart slayers.  During this run he picked up one Ancient Dragon Relic from defeating Lord Cirrus.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) into the challenge, Lava Caves: Colossal Crystal.  Hamllin completed the collecting of one progenitor crystal and the clearing out of the giant arena.  When the challenge was completed, he was awarded 284 Jade Scorpions.  That was the only afternoon run I was able to complete.  On Friday night, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Legendary Dreadnaught).  After checking in with the fellow Crypt Crawlers, I then headed off for the Red Fens to complete Into the Deep on epic hard.  I was expecting on having some trouble with crowd control in here and basically getting overwhelmed but that turned out not to be a problem at all.  While I was making my way through quest, Erdrique picked up a Water Elemental Hunter monster manual deed and picked up over 4,500 experience for it.  He also gathered a Scroll of the Greatclub of the Scrag.  I completed the optionals for reducing the loyalists forces (one times), the elimination of the scrag slaves, and defeated the Hezerou in the underwater pit.  In the end chest I gathered a Shard of the Raven’s Sight.  All told, I also picked up another 46 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.

After making way through the capstone of the Red Fens, I then started on the Vault of Night chain on epic hard.  For this set of runs, I was joined by Friedrice and we headed off to do the Tharashk Arena on epic hard.  Again, I was expecting on having some issues with being over whelmed during the arena fight.  However, that didn’t materialize either.  Once we entered the arena we headed straight off for a set of gates and as soon as they opened up we rushed in and took out the enemy combatants.  As we made our way to the arena, through the arena fight, and to complete the quest we completed the objectives for defeating Angog, Durge’s contact (Myr’dril), took out the drunken ogres, killed the troll enforcers, defeated Smashjaw, and defeated Grogan.  The only thing of note that I picked up was 54 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.  After we made it through the Tharashk Arena, we then headed to The Prisoner on epic hard.  The Prisoner was easier to make it through than the Tharashk Arena.  I picked up another monster manual deed while we were questing through The Prisoner, achieving quori exterminator I.  I also picked up a medium Eberron dragonshard fragment from a collectible, received a scroll for Stonemeld Plate, and picked up 46 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.  We also completed the optionals for killing the arcane oozes, Ingstoldt, his pests, and the gargoyle guardians.  We both called it a night after that run through.

On Saturday, I did some Risia Ice Game jumping with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion), who happens to be my default jumper, and picked up a couple purple coins.  Later that night, I logged back on with Erdrique and I took him into The Jungles of Khyber on epic hard.  The Jungle of Khyber is known for the large number of optional objectives it contains.  During this run, I completed the optional objectives for defeating Drinto Luridae, Blackheart Ambassador, Wumat Luridae, Chactar Luridae, and Huarn Luridae.  I also picked up  five mysterious remnants and 71 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.  After that run, I headed over to Haywire Foundry and ran that one on epic hard as well.  While questing through Haywire Foundry I completed the optional objectives for defeating the elementals, RC-1, RC-2, disabling the flame jets, and defeating 10 mithral defenders while escaping.  I also picked up a scroll for the Cloak of the Silver concord, 5 mysterious remnants, and 60 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.  Neither quest caused me any issues on epic hard.  After running through Haywire Foundry, I called it a night.

Unfortunately I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked to on Sunday.  However, I did I get another opportunity to dual box :).  I was originally scheduled to play Kanndar (Level 13 Paladin).  So I also logged on with Stoorage (Level 14 Fighter) from my premium account and paired them up and took them out into Sorrowdusk Isle.  Kanndar is currently working on that explorer area and the Cult of the Six story arc.  I took them both through lower Sorrowdusk Isle and into upper Sorrowdusk Isle and ran the The Temple Outpost: Libram of the Six on elite.  While making our way through the explorer area, I cam across Teargon and Furley and collected 56 slayers for Kanndar.

So those were my runs and activities over the weekend.  I actually gathered enough experience with Erdrique to take level 26 but haven’t done it quite yet.  I might go ahead and level him up but I was originally thinking of keeping that level “banked.”  Although, I don’t believe it really matters.  I still have quite a ways until I hit level 30.  Overall though, it was a good and fun weekend.  I hope everybody else had a great weekend as well!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in DDO!!

So Why Only Ready Room 1?

Recently, I took both Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) and Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) through the Tharashk Arena.  As I made my way past the arena promoter and then made it, rather forcibly, around the kobold registar, and into the back tunnels to each ready room, I began to wonder something.  Why are we only allowed access to Ready Room 1?

As many of you already know, as we explore the back end tunnels to the arena, the only key we ever come across is for Ready Room 1 which holds the troll gladiators.  I think it would be interesting if our party could locate the other keys as well and a make a decision in which set of gladiators to defeat and replace.  I know that in the epic levels that I would do my best to take over the Ready Room that holds those dang kobolds.

Wouldn’t be a little more interesting if we could take the place of a different set of monsters in the Tharashk Arena besides the trolls in Ready Room 1?

However, is there a specific reason why the troll gladiators are the only combatants we can replace?  The announcer and promoter seem to already know that we have taken their place, especially as we enter the arena and the announcer mentions us “newcomers” from “Stormreach.”  Perhaps the promoter is a little more intelligent than I give him credit for.  He is a bugbear after all and I don’t think bugbears are too widely well known for being intelligent.  In any case, I think it would add some depth to the quest.  I know that I would rather fight the trolls in the arena in place of the kobold shamans, or the minotaur shamans, or even the mephits.

What ready room would you take over if you had the chance to decide?  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Tharashk Arena.

Behind Enemy Lines

The other day I did something for the first time that I just thought was pretty funny.  I was running with Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) through the Tharashk Arena on epic normal when I made it to the arena fight.  Well, as I entered the arena, I immediately headed off to the take on the kobolds before their gate was raised.  After the narration was over, and the gate opened, I immediately ran in and starting fighting the kobolds.  However, as I made my way further into their staging area, the second opened up and I was able to slip through as I was trailing the kobold shamans.  I then realized that I was literally “behind enemy lines.”

Their were other kobolds in this area that weren’t interactable and were just milling around.  Meanwhile, I continued to beat down their brethren.  It was like they simply didn’t care their fellow comrades were being killed.  It reminded me of when somebody is at work and they are on break or lunch and refuse to help with anything until their allotted time off is over.  Too funny..

The same thing then happened with me when it came to the minotaurs.  I immediately ran into the staging area and then back into the ready room to just see the minotaur shaman just sitting there.  Too bad I couldn’t lay some type of trap in there or something so that when they do go “live” they would already be a little weekend.  Hm, you know I wonder if I could do that…

These minotaurs just simply don’t care….

In any case, I just thought it was funny for these monsterous teammates just watching as their members are being destroyed.  What lazy monsters!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Tharashk Arena!!

Crafting in the Far Away Places

When DDO first came out, nearly 10 years ago (can’t wait for the 10th anniversary coming up this year!!) crafting was even close of being thought of.  Boy have times changed.  We now have more crafting systems than we can keep up with.  If you visit the DDO Wiki Crafting page you come across about 14 different types of crafting mechanisms currently active in DDO.  One of the things I want to try to do is to play around with some of these crafting systems, especially those that aren’t used all that much anymore.

The other day I noticed that Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) had a Corroded Rapier.  Now I knew the Corroded Rapier was an upgradeable item (it has an enchantment that can be unlocked) from the Sentinels of Stormreach pack.  To unlock the enchantment you need to combined the rapier with a Sigil of the Lion, Sigil of the Goat, and Sigil of the Dragon in a specific altar.  None of this was a problem as I have plenty of the sigils.

However, as I started to make my way to the altar, I began to realize something.  This dang altar is out in the boonies.  The altar you have to take these pieces to is called Visbane’s Folly and it is located at the top of Sentinel’s Tower.  Now if you are just looking at a map of the House Deneith Ward, and you spot the little crafting station icon indicating the location of the altar, you don’t think anything of it.  The problem surfaces when you try to make your way up the tower and then realize that you have to take the sloping path outside of the tower to get to its location.  By the time you get their you then start to wonder why you even bothered.

Sludgge thinking that this altar is way out there….

This then made me wonder what other altars are just out in far away places.  Most of these “upgradeable” altars are fortunately located relatively close to the various quest storyline/arc quest givers.  The only one that is even more annoying to get too, that I can think of, is the Dreamforge which can only be accessed through the Dreaming Dark quest.  Now that is definitely crafting in a far away place!!

I wonder if we will ever be able to apply these lesser used altars in our guild airships at some point in time.  It would definitely make some crafting a little easier to do.  But until then, I guess I’ll just have to continue to travel to these far away places to get these unique crafting items done.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting everybody!!

Another Epic Style Weekend, Quest Runs January 15th to January 17th

This past weekend was dominated by another set of epic questing.  However, it all wasn’t just with Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Primal Avatar).  With this past weekend accounting for the third Saturday in January, I didn’t log in that night so that I could spend a weekend date night with my wife.  However, I did some more epic questing with my other rogue, Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) on Sunday.  But to start the weekend out, I did a slayer run with Berann (Level 9 Barbarian) and Containment (Level 7 Cleric) through Tangleroot Gorge on Friday morning.  Both of these characters are still working on finishing up this area and I believe they both don’t have much left to go before they can move onto Three Barrel Cove.  I continued that theme on Friday afternoon when I logged on with Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) and took him through the Sands of Menechtarun for some more slayers out in the Valley of the False Tombs (collecting those undead slayers).  Later that night, I logged on with Erdrique and after taking care of some maintenance issues I took him into The Black Loch and Storm the Beaches on epic normal.  Erdrique had no issues working through the Black Loch but the ballistae in Storm the Beaches did cause me some problems.  Well, actually it wasn’t the ballistae causing me problems, but the sneaky drow pirates that I couldn’t detect that stole past me and used them to destroy me.  However, after restarting the quest once, I did make my way through it.  After completing the quest I called it a night.

Hamllin making his way into the desert.

Erdrique making his way through Mistral Island.

As I already mentioned, I didn’t log on and play on Saturday.  The only thing I did Saturday was to take care of some small maintenance tasks (daily dice, etc.).  On Sunday, I logged on with Sludgge and decided to take him into the Lava Caves to run Time is Money.  After that run through, I then headed out to do Tharashk Arena on epic normal.  After I completed the Tharashk Arena I then headed back into the Lava Caves: Time is Money for another quick challenge run.  I then closed out the night by completing The Jungle of Khyber on epic normal.

So those were my rather simple runs for this past weekend.  Although it was a light weekend, it was still a fun one.  I hope everybody else had a great weekend as well and I hope everybody has a great week as well.  Thanks for reading and happy hunting!!

Time to Work on Upgrading Sludgge’s Gear

I have a decent number of characters.  Unfortunately most of them have been quite neglected, at least in terms of getting decent questing gear.  Every once in awhile I’ll take some time to get some equipment for a particular character, but with a decent number of characters in my “stable” I just don’t find the time to appropriately devote in terms of acquiring equipment for them.  Well, I think I have a mini plan, at least for my character Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer).

Sludgge is one of my oldest characters.  He was originally created to be part of a warforged only party.  Although the rest of the party no longer exists, I still maintained Sludgge.  He is also a unique character in that I have started down the Mechanic path but I did well before enhancement pass and as a result I made Sludgge a dual wielder, who currently uses rapiers and/or shortswords.  He now, because of the revamp to the enhancements, has the ability to excel with repeating crossbows as well.  However, I kept his primary attack focus on using dual wielding.

Well, while working with Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Primal Avatar) through the House Cannith Challenges to upgrade is Ring of the Stalker and Spare Hand, I took a glance at some of the other types of loot available.  I noticed a number of things that could really be fun for Sludgge.  First off, I noticed three weapons that would be fun to have.  These include the Mournlode Shortsword, Calomel Rapier, and the Elemental Rapier of Air.  I’m really interested in the Elemental Rapier of Air with its ability of Slicing Winds, Greater Sirocco, Shocking Burst, Screaming, and Improved Roaring.  All of these are pretty nice effects for a character like Sludgge.  The other two weapons are a little more focused on specific enemy types (Mournlode has greater undead bane while Calomel has greater dragon bane) but they both seem like fun weapons to have.

Sludgge checking out the Cannith Challenge gear.

Other things that I liked as well included the Mournlode Docent (especially when I need to fight undead mobs, which rogues tend to be weaker on doing), the Ring of the Stalker, the Spare Hand, and Rock Boots.  With Sludgge currently being level 22, I think I will have plenty of time to gather the necessary ingredients for him.  I’m thinking that I can use Erdrique to run a challenge or two during the week to get the epic level ingredients and Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) as well to get the heroic ingredients.  Since challenges, in general, don’t take a whole of time, this should work out pretty good.  In any case I think this will be a good testing ground for me.  I will still need to upgrade a number of slots for Sludgge, including his helmet, goggles, trinket, one ring, bracers, and gloves.  I’ll have to explore some other things to upgrade his current gear in those areas.

Well, we’ll see how this little venture will work out.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in House Cannith!!
