Runs Over January 11th to 13th

Well, the weekend from January 11th to January 13th was more productive than the weekend previous.  The first thing I did was to complete the quest Lord of Eyes with Erdrique (Level 23 Bard/Fatesinger) and Sttollen (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) on elite which also closed out the story arc for the Reign of Madness.  Erdrique wand up looting Belashyrra’s Cleansed Scepter in the end quest.  As quest rewards for completing the Reign of Madness story arc, Erdrique picked up the rune arm Glorious Obscenity and Sttollen picked up Fleshshaper’s Brigadine.  I then took Erdrique and Sttollen into the Sands of Menechtarun where they picked up another 502 gnoll slayers and hit the 3,000 slayer mark completing that portion of the slayer quests.  They also picked up another 45 slayers in scorrow.  During this run they took down Commander Errulf, Vorvand Darkfur, Utach Sandcrawl, and Stinkpelt.  That closed out my runs for Friday night.

On Saturday night, I took Erdrique and Sttollen into the quest Good Intentions.  It was the first time I tried this quest.  I remembered reading about it and how it contains a lot of constructs.  Boy, was that not overstated.  Even being level 23, Erdrique wound up getting kicked twice, primarily because I just wasn’t prepared for what to expect.  However, I did get through it.  Erdrique would up looting the Dashing Gloves while Sttollen picked up the Ring of Prowess.  I then took Erdrique and Sttollen back out into the Sands of Menechtarun to get some more slayers, focusing this time on the scorrow.  They picked up another 133 slayers and came across Volrune and Utach Sandcrawl.  I then started to run down the level 18 quests in the Adventure Compendium and the first quest in line was Terminal Delirium.  I wasn’t quite looking forward to this run.  I entered the quest and immediately ran into trouble with the beholders and medusa combinations.  I immediately got obliterated and re-started the quest.  I then made it to the mirror portion of the quest and then got punished rather harshly.  Needless to say it don’t go well.  I decided to call it a night at that point.

Sunday night I logged on with Tuhnn (Bladeforged, Level 17).  I didn’t do anything substantial with him, just worked on favor.  He completed the quests Stealthy Repossession, Smuggler’s Warehouse, Recovering the Lost Time, and Missing in Action.  he also collected another 165 slayers in Cerulean Hills.  During these adventures he picked up several monster manual deeds: Orc Exterminator 1 (1,110 experience) and Human Hunter (444 experience),  That closed out my weekend.

Thanks for reading everybody and I hope everybody had a great weekend worth of questing.  Happy hunting!!

Mixing it Up, Quest Runs July 6th to July 9th

This week I had quite an array of quest runs.  They ranged from some epic hard quests out in Eveningstar to some low level quest runs through the Sharn Syndicate.  My questing activities started early on Monday morning when I logged on with Hamllin (Level 16 Fighter) and I took him out into the Red Fens to continue to work on the 5,000 slayer mark.  In the afternoon, I was scheduled to log back in with Hamllin who I took right back out into the Red Fens and finally hit the 5,000 slayer mark.  Now he is laboriously working on the last mark out there, the 7,500 mark.  He will then probably head out to Ataraxia’s Haven, but we’ll see.  Later on Monday night, I logged on with Wapoyei (Level 24 Cleric/Divine Crusader) and I took him out into the King’s Forest and made my way out to the quest Unquiet Graves.  I went ahead and entered the quest on epic hard and some interesting times taking on those drow necromancers and their undead servants.  However, I was able to complete the quest at which point I hit level 24.  After I leveled, I headed back out to kill some time in the King’s Forest before I logged out to head off to bed.   I also was playing our weekly digital pnp game as well.

Tuesday started out with a slayer run through Three Barrel Cove with Suppply (Level 9 Paladin) who is a character on my premium account.  Suppply is coming really close to maxing out the area, nearly reaching the 1,500 slayer mark.  But he still needs a number of rare encounters and a few more explorer zones.  In the afternoon, after I got back home from the office, I took Erdrique (Level 13 Rogue) out into Ataraxia’s Haven and ran through the quest Reclamation where he had no problems teaching the duergar that they shouldn’t be ruining the beautiful landscape.  Later that night, I took Berann (Level 8 Barbarian) and was joined up by Hellspierced as we systematically made our way through the Sharn Syndicate chain completing Stand Your Ground, Dirty Laundry, The Stormreaver Fresco, The Bookbinder Rescue, Repossession, and Come Out and Slay.  After we completed Come Out and Slay, Hellspiereced did some character maintenance and called it a night but I took Berann out into Tangleroot Gorge to work on his slayers out there and then I called it a night.

Wednesday was a typical mid-week questing day.  Wednesday is date night for my wife and myself so I was only able to play during my morning slayer run and my afternoon run after work.  On Wednesday morning, I logged on with Wapoyei and I took him for some explorations out into the High Road where he collected some more slayers for the area.  That afternoon I took Hamllin out into the Red Fens where I continued to work on that 7,500 slayer mark.

To end the week, my questing started off on Thursday morning with a slayer run through the heroic version of the Ruins of Gianthold with Sludgge (Level 21 Rogue/Shadowdancer).  Sludgge is currently working on his 1,500 mark in the Stormheart camp.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique and I took him into VON 3.  I made i through the Gateway to Khyber without any issues, however while running through the Jungles of Khyber I ran into some trouble with the beholders who happened to hit me with flesh to stone.  I will have to get my revenge later this weekend.  To close out the night, I logged back on with Sludgge and I took him through the Black Loch on epic normal and then headed out to Smuggler’s Rest and collected some map pieces, doubloons, and compasses however I never got into the Crystal Cove 😦 as a 1,000 map pieces still needed to be turned in by the time I headed off to go to bed.

So as you can see, it was quite a range of quests here.  I like weeks like that because it shows me the variety and depth of the quests in DDO.  I hope everybody else had a great week and I hope you have an even better weekend.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy questing!!

Stopping Some Corruption-The Sharn Syndicate

Over the weekend, I took Erdrique (Level 6 Rogue) through the quest chain, The Sharn Syndicate.  The Sharn Syndicate is a low level quest chain, level 4 on normal, with all of its quests located in the Marketplace.  The quest giver for this particular story arc is Yorrick Amantu, one of the famous Coin Lords in Stormreach.  This particular quest chain contains six different quests: Stand Your Ground, Dirty Laundry, Stormreaver Fresco, Bookbinder Rescue, Repossession, and Come Out and Slay.  The back drop for the story is that a powerful crime syndicate is trying to establish its foot hold in Stormreach.  As a result, the syndicate as quickly spread through the Marketplace causing corruption, chaos, extortion, robbery, and kidnapping.  Yorrick recruits our adventurers to stop this threat to Stormreach once and for all.

One thing about the Sharn Syndicate is that the quests are rather short and quite varied.  The beginning of the chain starts with the quest Stand Your Ground where you help Maxwell Statler (the quest giver) and his brother defend their bar from the Sharn Syndicate as they try to extort “protection” money from the brothers, who have taken a stand against being bullied.  The basic mechanic of this quest is to keep the Maxwell alive (you get bonus experience if you keep his brother alive as well) through a few waves of attacking Sharn Syndicate enemies who invade from the rough and from the front door.

photo Erd helping in Stand your ground_zps0ekg7sye.jpg
Erd guarding the Statler brothers.

The second quest deals with a few Sharn Syndicate thugs who are using a business as a front to launder money.  Guard Kayd, the quest giver, has found out about this operation and we are tasked with taken care of this.  The main objective of the quest is to simply slay the launderers.

photo Erd dealing with the launders_zpsygfds1qp.jpg
Erd looking to deal with the money launderers.

The third quest is another short and unique quest.  You are basically asked to act as a guard for a mysterious  warforged named Zircon.  You are guarding Zircon as he makes a withdraw from the bank in the Market.  However, the quest quickly changes as it becomes clear that Zircon doesn’t need to be guarded at all and instead frames you for stealing the item out of the bank, the item being the Stormreaver Fresco.  The main goal of this quest is to make it out of the bank once Zircon double crosses you and you get optional experience if you don’t kill any guards.

The fourth quest is a rescue mission.  The Sharn Syndicate of taken hostage the Binder family and you need to enter the home free the hostages and take care of the evil syndicate thugs.  None of the families can die and they must be escorted to an exit point (there is one upstairs and one downstairs).  This quest can get quite annoying because although the house isn’t extremely large, it is heavily trapped and the Binder family members tend to fight to the death…literally.

The fifth quest is all about revenge.  Zircon is back and is looking to unload the Fresco.  However, the original owner of the Fresco wants it back, a dragon named Kear (who is in elf form).  Not to mention, we want to pay Zircon another visit to show him how much we appreciate his efforts in trying to frame us.  The quest has two simple goals: destroy Zircon and retrieve the Fresco.  The quest is interesting in that it contains a room of unique and rare art that is all trapped except for one piece that allows access to Zircon’s final room.  Pick the wrong piece…and boom!!

The last quest is one the puts the syndicate down for good.  Come Out and Slay is about infiltrating the Sharn Syndicate and then taking out its leader here in Stormreach and then making it out alive.  An interesting side plot to this quest is that the Sharn Syndicate is doing its best to unite the various gang factions together (Clan Tunnelworm Kobolds, Hazadill’s Bugbears, the Quickfoot, etc).  The fighting in this twisty by short quest can get hairy at times, especially near the end where a large number of enemies seem to come out of nowhere from the roof.

photo Erd dealing with Talon in Come Out and Slay_zpsoqhevn1f.jpg
Erd dealing with Talon in Come Out and Slay.

Overall, the six quests are fun, short and show a wide variety of game mechanics.  This particular story arc also has a number of fun and interesting named quest rewards that are pretty good for low level twink gear.  If you haven’t given the Sharn Syndicate a go, I would recommend it!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Fun Weekend of Questing, Quest Runs April 10th to April 12th

Over this past weekend, the quest runs and other DDO activities I worked on were pretty much dominated by playing Erdrique (Level 6 Rogue).  However, I did get some runs in with Cantlin (Level 12 Sorcerer) and Tuhnn (Level 15 Bladeforged).  I actually kicked off my weekend runs by taking Cantlin back into Sorrowdusk Isle.  It was a little bit of deja vu for me concerning I had just taking Cantlin into Sorrowdusk Isle the night before.  Have to love how schedules sometimes work like that .  That afternoon, after I downloaded the patch, I took Erdrique into the quest, The Depths of Darkness.  I didn’t have any issues combating the enemies or completing the quest on elite.  That night, I took Erdrique back into the Waterworks Slayers and then I completed the story line by completing Venn’s Trail: Clan Tunnelworm and Venn’s Trail: Venn’s Fate.  Prior to hitting up the Waterworks, I had spent quite a bit of time working on maintenance issues: auction house returns, breaking items down for crafting, dealing with my overflowing mailbox, and upgrading some of my crafted gear.  So once I completed the Waterworks, I called it a night.

On Saturday, I logged back in with Erdrique and took him into the Waterworks Slayer area once again.  Although I have the story arc complete on elite, I still needed to wrack up a number of kills out there.  After I finished up the area, I then worked on the Sharn Syndicate Series on elite: Stand Your Ground, Dirty Laundry, Stormreaver Fresco, Bookbinder Rescue, Repossession, and Come Out and Slay.  I didn’t have any issues in these quests at all and enjoyed not having to worry about the traps in the Bookbinder Rescue or Repossession.  Once those were done, I ran through challenge Dr. Rushmore’s Mansion: Behind the Door and nearly found/opened all 16 doors.  I was just one shy before the time ran out.  But I did take out 3 of the bosses.  After that run, I then completed the next quest in the Shan-to-Kor story arc, The Cloven Jaw Scourge: Caverns of Shaagh.  And then I decided I wasn’t done with hobgoblins so I headed out to Tangleroot Gorge and completed the Yarkuch’s Warplans, after which I called it a night.

A Sunday, I decided to give Erdrique a break and logged on with Tuhnn.  I took Tuhnn out into the Ruins of Threnal to work on some experience and some favor since those quests run from level 8 to 10 on normal.  I was able to complete all of the Western Excavation on elite: In Need of Supplies, The Rescue, and Secure the Area.

So all in all, it was a pretty decent weekend.  I wish I could have gotten more done on Friday night but I did have a lot of those “maintenance” activities to catch up on.  I hope everybody else had a good weekend as well.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Questing over the Weekend, March 27th to March 29th

This past weekend was dominated with low level runs once again, as I primarily focused on taking Erdrique (Level 3 Rogue) through the Harbor.  However, prior to those runs, I took Stoorage (Level 11 Fighter) out into the dense jungles of Sorrowdusk Isle.  While tromping through the woods, Stoorage continued to wrack up slayers as his way to that elusive 1,500 cap.  Later that afternoon, I took Hamllin (Level 15 Fighter) out into the same area.  Like Stoorage, Hamllin also continued to wrack up on the slayer count.  Later that night, I logged on Erdrique and took him out into the Harbor so that he could start to make a new name for himself in Stormreach.  I went through the last of the solo quests, An Explosive Situation and Home Sweet Sewer, and then I made my presence known to Baudry Cartamon and I made my way through his small story arc (Protect Baudry’s Interest, Stop Hazadill’s Shipment, and Retrieve the Stolen Goods).  I then made my way through Walk the Butcher’s Path and The Sunken Sewer.  By the time I had completed those quests, Hellbanisher had logged in and the we set off to take on Stealthy Repossession and The Smuggler’s Warehouse.  I then had enough experience to move up to Level 3 and then I went out to the Cannith Challenge Vendors to get the low level Spare Hands and Ring of the Stalker to realize I was short one Crude Talisman (I wrote about that here.)  So to get my last Crude Talisman, I switched characters to Hamllin and he ran Kobold Island: Kobold Chaos.  I then stashed my talismans in the shared deposit box and logged out.  I logged back on with Erdrique and picked up both items.  By this time, Hellbanisher had logged out, but I still wanted to more quest.  So I ran, Recovering the Lost Tome and then called it a night.

On Saturday, I started out my questing a little earlier than normal.  I logged on with Suppply (Level 9 Paladin) who I was supposed to run with on Thursday but instead of logging in I took a nap .  I took him the last quest in the Sharn Syndicate chain on elite, Come Out and Slay.  Later that night, I brought Erdrique back on and I was joined with Hellbanisher and we ran through Missing In Action, Kobold’s New Ringleader, Information is Key, Haverdasher, Garrison’s Missing Pack, Durk’s Got a Secret, Cerulean Hills,  and Where there’s smoke.  After those runs, Hell logged out but I continued on and ran through Bringing the Light and finished up the slayers in Cerulean Hills.  I then also attempted the Swiped Signet but one of the infamous apprentices hit me with a sleet storm and I was killed sitting down .  I called it a night after that.

Moving for a change of pace, I logged on with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Chamption) and I attempted to run VON 1 the Tharaskh Arena on epic hard once again.  The last time I attempted to do this feat, I was slaughtered at the end fight.  During this go round, like before, I breezed through the majority of quest and made it to the end fight with ease.  However, once I took my hirelings out into the area, things got a little interesting.  I actually survived all way up until the third wave when my favored soul ran out of mana.  I attempted to re-enter the quest but I was originally grouped with Hellbanisher at the time (who is only level 4) and when he logged out to change characters I had tried to get back into the quest.  The mechanic in place wouldn’t let me re-enter because Hell was still in my part.  As he wasn’t loaded back in yet, I simply kicked out of the group which then reset the instance .  I didn’t have enough time to restart it again.  So, VON 1 still remains on Kolll’s take down list!!

Overall, it was light and refreshing weekend.  I hope everybody else had a great weekend as well and I hope the week continues.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

A Desert Dominating Weekend, Quest Runs January 30 to February 1

There is no surprise here.  I really enjoy it when my characters hit the level 13 to 15 because that is the time when I get to hunt in the Sands of Menechtarun in most cases.  Now the quests out in the Sands of Menechtarun run from levels 10 to 12, however since I typically run quests in order down the list in the Adventure Compendium, I’m typically above that level by the time I get out there.  In any case, my questing kicked off Friday morning with a slayer run through a different zone, Three Barrel Cove, with one of my premium account characters, Suppply (Level 9 Paladin).  Suppply doesn’t have much left in there and will hopefully finish that up soon.  After work, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 15 Fighter) and I took him for his turn through the quest A Relic of the Sovereign Past and had some fun slaugtering the duergar and looking for the magical sword Tesyus.  Hamllin completed the quest without any real issues although I didn’t gather the adamantine ore as I was running out of time and needed to make dinner (stupid schedule change).  Later that night, I started my dominance of the Sands of Menechtarun with Erdrique (Level 16 Monk).  I took him through a few runs of slayers in the desert and then ran off and hit up the quest, An Offering of Blood on elite.  Unlike Hamllin, I moved through the quest without any deaths and had a good time taking on the drow of the desert on elite.  I called it a night after that fun run.

On Saturday, I brought Erdrique back on took him back hunting in the desert.  I worked on his gnoll slayers where I wracked up my 3,000 gnolls and continued to work on the same mark for undead and scorrow.  I then headed off and explored the Chamber of Raiyum, better known as The Tomb of the Wizard-King.  I was actually able to find him in the second tower I explored and was glad it worked out this way.  This allowed me to hunt down the last of his guardians and to fall down to the treasure room and loot that area without having to run all the way back to the beginning of the quest (I didn’t have dimension door and I was solo).  After that run I called it a night.

I logged on Cannock (Level 7 Druid) and started out my questing on Sunday night in the Harbor and took him into the dreaded quest, Stealthy Repossession.  However, just before I entered the quest, an old guildie logged on which was good to see. After I took Cannock through Stealthy Repossession and ignoring those pesky prophets I logged out and brought Erdrique back on once again.  I had suggested we run Chains of Flame since that was the last quest I needed to flag for the Demon Queen pre-raid.  So I joined up with Corewyn and we later picked up another guildie, Culindar, and we headed out to the desert once again and had a fun time battling the firebrand gnolls and their fire mephits, fire elementals, and other pets.  We had little difficulty moving through the complicated map and upper levels of the Burning City on elite and completed the quest in under an hour.  Good times indeed!!  After that run, I did call it a night.

Making His Way Through Korthos and Starting in on the Harbor, Quest Runs over the Weekend October 3 to October 5

The questing over this past weekend, as you can imagine, was primarily dominated by me taking Erdrique (Level 2 Monk) around Korthos Island and the Stormreach Harbor.  However, prior to that run, I took Kolll (Level 21 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) into the King’s Forest for my morning slayer run event.  After taking Kolll around the wilds of the King’s Forest I logged out to go to work.  That afternoon, I logged back on with Hamllin (Level 11 Fighter) and I took him out into Tangleroot Gorge to get closer to maxing that area out.  After a run through their, and finding my last rare encounter, I headed out to Threnal and completed the Missing Expedition.  I was also pleasantly surprised that I was joined by a PUG member (I had put the group up in the LFM panel) and we made our way through the quest with little difficulty.  I then logged out for awhile to take of dinner and a few other things.

Friday night, I logged back on with Erdrique.  I was joined up with Hellshield and then we headed out into the wilds of Korthos Island and went through all of those quests on elite.  We completed Redemption, Stopping the Sahaugin, Necromancer’s Doom, Sacrifices, and Misery’s Peak on elite.  We also hunted around the wilderness zone for awhile.  We then traveled over to Stormreach Harbor where we completed Walk the Butcher’s Path on elite as well.  Hellshield then had to log out for the night.  After Hellshield logged out, I went back out to Korthos Island and the wilderness zone and capped that slayer area out.  I then came back to Stormreach and completed the solo quest, The Miller’s Debt.  I then logged out for the night.

On Saturday, I brought Erdrique back on and continued to run the quests out in the Stormreach Harbor.  I took Erdrique through the rest of the solo quests: Arachnophobia, Home Sweet Sewer, and An Explosive Situation.  I then took him through his first quest in the Marketplace, Sunken Sewer.  He then ventured over to Baudry Cartamon and completed his string: Protect Baudry’s Interest, Stop Hazadill’s Shipment, and Retrieve the Stolen Goods.  I then completed the night with a run through Stealthy Repossession which I wound up having some difficulty but I still got it done .

I gave Erdrique a break on Sunday and logged in with Charlock (Level 13 Fighter).  In my attempt to run a few more challenges and in order to obtain guild renown elixirs and other little goodies, I first took him into the quest Extraplanar Palace: Buying Time and completed it on level 12.  After that run, I took Charlock out into the quest Tomb of the Shadow King, the last of the Shadow Crypt flagging quests that he needed.  The quest went fairly smoothly although I did have a typical “goof” moment, which I plan on writing about later this week.  But even with that “goof” I was able to make it through the quest on elite with little problems.  I then started Stormcleave Outpost but had to recall before finishing to head to bed, it just go to late.

So the weekend was a pretty quick one.  I got Erdrique up to level 2 (with level 3 banked) and I”m almost ready to hit level 3.  I also got in a run through a challenge.  I’m looking forward to more questing this week.  I hope you all had a good weekend as well.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy questing!!
