Getting Some More Questing in Over the Weekend, January 18th to 20th

Although last week my questing was lite, the weekend was a little more productive.  On Friday, I dual boxed with Erdrique (Level 23 Bard/Fatesinger) and Sttollen (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) and I attempted to complete Terminal Delirium on heroic elite once again.  However, just like the previous weekend, I failed horribley…twice.  I died both times in the mirror room :(.  Those were the only runs I got in on Friday night.

ScreenShot01696

Erdrique and Sttollen trying Terminal Delirium once again.

I didn’t log in again until Sunday night.  Once again I logged in with Erdrique and Sttollen and took them out into the Sands of Menechtarun.  They picked up 274 scorrow and 59 undead slayers.  They also took down Wokran-Kull, Utach Sandscrawl, Volrune the Curate, Mendexthazz, and Palumak.  I was then joined by Hellsblaster (Leve 26 Artificer) and he mentioned he would help with Terminal Delirium.  With his help we ran into a lot less problems.  Our biggest area of concern was the mirror room but once we made it past that the balloon and tile pieces were easy to take care of.  Needless to say, I was very grateful for the help!!  Erdrique also picked up a monster manual deed while in there, mind flayer exterminator II (2,540 experience).  Hellsblaster called it a night after that so I took Erdrique and Sttollen back out into the desert and collected another 133 scorrow as well as defeating Utach Sandcrawl, Volrune, and Mendexthazz.  I then took Erdrique and Sttollen into the Inspired Quarter where I ran the Dream Conspiracy on elite.  I had little problems in that quest.  I then picked up the quest for The Shipwrecked Spy and ran that quest on elite as well.  I had little difficulty in this quest as well and picked up the optionals for getting past the first two waves of enemies as well as finding the hidden treasure.  During these runs, Erdrique hit level 24, so not a bad night.  I called it a night after completing The Shipwrecked Spy.

Runs Over January 11th to 13th

Well, the weekend from January 11th to January 13th was more productive than the weekend previous.  The first thing I did was to complete the quest Lord of Eyes with Erdrique (Level 23 Bard/Fatesinger) and Sttollen (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) on elite which also closed out the story arc for the Reign of Madness.  Erdrique wand up looting Belashyrra’s Cleansed Scepter in the end quest.  As quest rewards for completing the Reign of Madness story arc, Erdrique picked up the rune arm Glorious Obscenity and Sttollen picked up Fleshshaper’s Brigadine.  I then took Erdrique and Sttollen into the Sands of Menechtarun where they picked up another 502 gnoll slayers and hit the 3,000 slayer mark completing that portion of the slayer quests.  They also picked up another 45 slayers in scorrow.  During this run they took down Commander Errulf, Vorvand Darkfur, Utach Sandcrawl, and Stinkpelt.  That closed out my runs for Friday night.

On Saturday night, I took Erdrique and Sttollen into the quest Good Intentions.  It was the first time I tried this quest.  I remembered reading about it and how it contains a lot of constructs.  Boy, was that not overstated.  Even being level 23, Erdrique wound up getting kicked twice, primarily because I just wasn’t prepared for what to expect.  However, I did get through it.  Erdrique would up looting the Dashing Gloves while Sttollen picked up the Ring of Prowess.  I then took Erdrique and Sttollen back out into the Sands of Menechtarun to get some more slayers, focusing this time on the scorrow.  They picked up another 133 slayers and came across Volrune and Utach Sandcrawl.  I then started to run down the level 18 quests in the Adventure Compendium and the first quest in line was Terminal Delirium.  I wasn’t quite looking forward to this run.  I entered the quest and immediately ran into trouble with the beholders and medusa combinations.  I immediately got obliterated and re-started the quest.  I then made it to the mirror portion of the quest and then got punished rather harshly.  Needless to say it don’t go well.  I decided to call it a night at that point.

Sunday night I logged on with Tuhnn (Bladeforged, Level 17).  I didn’t do anything substantial with him, just worked on favor.  He completed the quests Stealthy Repossession, Smuggler’s Warehouse, Recovering the Lost Time, and Missing in Action.  he also collected another 165 slayers in Cerulean Hills.  During these adventures he picked up several monster manual deeds: Orc Exterminator 1 (1,110 experience) and Human Hunter (444 experience),  That closed out my weekend.

Thanks for reading everybody and I hope everybody had a great weekend worth of questing.  Happy hunting!!

Knocking Out Another Story Arc-Reign of Madness

About two weeks ago, Erdrique (Level 23 Bard/Fatesinger) and Sttollen (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) completed the Lord of Eyes which meant they also completed the Story Arc for the Reign of Madness chain.  If you haven’t attempted the Reign of Madness chain, it also includes the quests Acute Delirium, The Sane Asylum, and The Lord of Stone.  These quests are all level 17 on normal, making them level 19 on elite.  They give you favor from The Twelve and involve pitting one daelkyr against another (Lord of Stone vs. Lord of Eyes).

The quests can be challenging, especially Acute Delirium and Sane Asylum.  However, they also introduce a number of interesting mechanics: such as building an airship out of beds and bookshelves and and hopping back and forth from one plane to another to get past various doors and to take different types of enemies.  Overall, they are fun and challenging.

As a quest reward, Erdrique grabbed the rune arm, Glorious Obscenity and Sttollen grabbed the Fleshshaper’s Brigadine.  They both used their new loot as food items for their sentient weapons.

If you haven’t done these before, check them out.  Thanks for reading and happy hunting!!

A Slow Weekend, Quest Runs January 4th to 6th

Well, my past weekend’s worth of runs was relatively light.  I actually fell asleep early on Friday night (January 4th) and therefore I didn’t log in.  However, I did log in on Saturday night.  I grouped up with Dirtyrice (I was dual boxing Erdrique (Level 23) and Sttollen (Level 22) and we headed to The Twelve to take on the Lord of Stone on elite (making it a level 19 quest).  After that we headed off to the Sands of Menechtarun to do a quick run of Zawabi’s Revenge on Heroic Elite.  I knew I wouldn’t get any experience from it but I wanted to get the favor.  However, when we got there Dirtyrice realized he wasn’t flagged so I had tried it myself.  That didn’t go over too well.  Lailat wound up knocking me down and basically carved me up for her dinner.  So, after that miserable run, we headed back out to The Twelve and knocked out the quest, Acute Delirium on elite (making that a level 19 quest).  We are now good to go to take on the Lord of Eyes, which we will probably due this weekend.  We called it a night after that.

On Sunday, I didn’t get a chance to log on.  That was because my wife and I went out to the movies to see Aquaman.   By the time we got back and after I caught up on some chores around the house it was time to go to bed (stupid work, lol).

I hope everybody else had a great weekend’s worth of runs.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Quest Runs Over the Week December 29th to January 3rd

This past week wasn’t all that productive for me when it came to knocking out quests in DDO.  This was primarily because of the holidays and the associated travel that went with them.  We traveled from North Carolina to Florida to visit my family for Christmas and we traveled back on December 30th and December 31st we were still recouping and unpacking.

However, the day before we made our way back home, Saturday December 29th, I took Erdrique and Sttollen out into three explorer areas to find some dragon gems so that I could get into the Eerie Forest.   Actually, Sttollen had three gems he needed but Erdrique only had one. So, I first headed out to the Sands of Menechtarun to look for Thadargix’s Gem.  It didn’t take long to find one.  I came across it in the first Windlasher Gnoll village and collected 62 gnolls slayers and defeated Yurrugh while I was out there.  I then took them out to the Ruins of Gianthold to look for Sventusk’s Gem.  This one took me a little longer to find but I eventually found in Tarmor Stonehoof’s chest.  The only other rare encounters I found during this run was Chief Ogh and Pride Leader Xillic.  I collected 78 Storm Heart, 29 Storm Eye, and two Storm Fist slayers and found one explorer point.  Once I finished there, I headed back to the Reaver’s Refuge and turned in my gems and entered the Eerie Forest.  I didn’t stay long.  I collected 16 more slayers for the Reaver’s Refuge combined area and located two more explorers.  After that, I called it a night.

On Tuesday January 1st, I took Erdrique and Sttollen through the Stealer of Souls.  It had been a little while since I had been in this quest so it took me a little while to get situated but the run went fairly smoothly, although I didn’t bother to try to kill Sor’jek at the end.  After that I collected some more slayers in the Sands of Menechtarun.  I collected 90 more gnoll slayers.  I called it a night after that, had to get back in the swing of things for work :).

I didn’t log back in until Thursday, January 3rd.  I logged on with Lorrikk (Level 14, Monk) and Suppply (Level 12, Paladin) and noticed that they still had the Threnal Ceremonial Blade in their inventory.  So, I went ahead and took them to the Ruins of Threnal to complete the Threnal Arena.  I was also a little short on time that night so this was a quick and dirty run.  I had no problems dealing with the various challenges.  After that I headed out to the Red Fens to get some slayers out there before I turned in for the night.  Only Lorrikk was able to get any slayer credit as he power leveled Suppply, but Lorrikk did collect another 63 kills out there.

Taking a Look at Stealer of Souls

Last night, I took Erdrique and Sttollen into the final quest for the Reaver’s Refuge, Stealer of Souls.  Stealer of Souls is the capstone quest for the Reaver’s Refuge which also includes the quests Prey on the Hunter, Monastery of the Scorpion, and Enter the Kobold. As you make your way through each of these flagging quests, you will obtain a dragonshard essence (Eberron out of Prey on the Hunter, Siberys out of Monastery of the Scorpion, and Khyber out of Enter the Kobold).  You need to have these three dragonshard essences as well as three dragon gems.  There are six dragon gems that are found in the following explorer areas: Sands of Menechtarun, Ruins of Gianthold, Orchard of the Macabre, Aussircaex’s Valley, Soami Gardens, and Mount Reysalon.  The latter three can be reached via portals found in the Reavers’s Refuge area and contain the flagging quests for Stealer of Souls.  The gems can be found as random loot in various rare encounter and other chests in these explorer areas.

The quest is level 17 on normal and level 19 on elite.  The quest entrance to Stealer of Souls is located in the slayer area known as the Eerie Forest and is bestowed by a dragon named Thear.  After you complete the flagging quests and turn in the dragon gems Thear will open up a new portal to the Eerie Forest.  However, before you enter the Eerie Forest you also need to turn in the dragonshard essences to Toriavic, another NPC that is located adjacent to Thear.  If you don’t you won’t be able to enter the quest.

ScreenShot01623

Turning in the dragon essences (the three “gems” in my backpack).

To locate the quest entrance to the Stealer of Souls, you simply need to follow the path you enter on when transported to the Eerie Forest.  With a name such as the Eerie Forest, you can imagine the type of enemies you might encounter.  These include carcass eaters, umbral gargoyles, earth elementals, and others.  However, you can simply run past all of these until you reach the end of the path to the quest entrance.  By the time you get there most of the enemies would recall back to their spawn points.

ScreenShot01624

Sttollen making his way to the Stealer of Souls.

The primary objective to the Stealer of Souls is to disrupt the ritual that Sor’jek is conducting to raise an army of draco liches.  The secondary objective is take out Sor’jek.  Sor’jek is conducting this ritual in a specialized lair that has portals to four different areas.  In each of these areas, Sor’jek has corresponding lieutenants (who are also giants, of different types) conducting corresponding rituals.  To stop Sor’jek you need to stop and kill the lieutenants.  These lieutenants include a stone giant (Bhumi), a frost giant (Jala), a fire giant (Agni), and a cloud giant (Pavan).  Once you enter Sor’jek’s lair, you see he is already in process of conducting the ritual but you also get prompted to head over to a part of the lair that shows a lighted rune.  When you  activate the rune, you get transported to a new area.

ScreenShot01625

Erd making his way to the first rune.

The first area you get transported to is a maze of caves.  I can’t tell if the caves are just underground or if this is in a mountain.  In any case, you have to make your way through the maze to take a few orange named stone giants that eventually opens up the passage to Bhumi.  Once you take Bhumi out, his part of the ritual ends and a shrine appears.  At this point you can shrine up and active the rune and head back to Sor’jek’s lair.  When you get back, you will notice a second rune that is lit up.  This rune takes to a set of ice caves.  This is the home of Jala and to get to him you have to navigate through frost giants, ice mephits, ice flensers, and a series of wind traps that blow you off various ledges.  The wind traps can be turned off but they reset.  So when you turn them off you have to hurry back up the ledges to get to Jala.  Once Jala is defeated, another shrine appears and you can go back to the primary lair.  You will then head to a set of fire caves, the home of Agni.  Ironically, Agni i the only giant in this area.  He is guarded by a fierce set of efreetis and fire elementals.  To get to him you have to navigate through a tunnel that takes through a lake of lava.  After you get him knocked out, you get to move to the fourth area, the home of Pavan.  This area is the most irritating.  I guess the best way to describe this area would be a set of floating floors.  The get up to the next level you climb up a ramp.  However, you are battling air elementals and cloud giants the entire way up the path.  To get to Pavan, you have to activate another set of runes.  That takes down a barrier to him and allows you to attack him.  If you happen to get knocked off a platform and can’t land a lower platform you fall back down to Sor’jek’s primary lair and have to reenter Pavan’s lair.

ScreenShot01628-1

ScreenShot01629-1

Once Pavan is destroyed, the ritual is ruined and you have successfully stopped Sor’jek.  You can then teleport back to his lair and fight him, but this an optional objective.  Sor’jek is quite tough.  He is protected by a set of shields that are held in place by various mephits.  Once the mephits are defeated, the shields go down.  However, the mephits respawn and when they do so does his various shields.  If you do defeat Sor’jek you will get a chest that has a Soverign Rune to apply to dragontouched armor.

Oh, one thing I haven’t mentioned yet, the entire quest is timed.  As soon as you enter the quest, you have an hour to complete it.

Overall, the quest can be quite challenging,  Dealing with the traps in the frost cave area and getting knocked all over the place in the sky area are the most annoying parts of this quest.  This was especially true when you basically got knocked down whenever you got close to an air elemental.  That is no longer the case now.  Sor’jek himself is quite challenging.  If you can’t keep the mephits down, the added projection from his shields make him very difficult to deal with.  It is a fun quest, and I do enjoy running it.  At level, this quest is pretty challenging.  As a quest reward, you get 50 draconic runes which can be used to purchase some dragontouched armor or turned for other items related to crafting on dragontouched armor.

Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Knocking Out Some More Slayer Areas

One of things that I like to try to do with my questing schedule it to make sure I get some time to complete explorer zones. I usually try to do some explorer area runs right after I get home from work during the typical work week and on Monday nights when I’m also playing digital PNP with some friends (since my attention can be diverted from DDO on those nights for quite a bit of time).  Recently, I completed a few of these areas.

Erdrique (Level 13 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 14 Rogue), while dual boxing, completed Sorrowdusk Isle.  It took me forever to finally come across Vermilo during this go round but he eventually sprang forward.

screenshot00718_zps0sxiidmf

Erdrique and Sttollen finally find Vermilo to finish up Sorrowdusk Isle.

Cannock (Level 9 Druid) completed Tangleroot Gorge, which was ironic because he completed Three Barrel Cove prior to Tangleroot Gorge, primarily because he was also dual boxing with my other account and the majority of my characters on that account happened to need Three Barrel Cove.  Therefore, Cannock saw more time in that area.  But he eventually completed Tangleroot.

screenshot00726_zpsl3ca9pjr

Cannock finally finishes Tangleroot Gorge.

To end things out Containment (Level 9 Cleric) maxed out Three Barrel Cove, where he received a lot of help from Cannock and Berann (Level 10 Barbarian).

screenshot00736_zpstwz3giji

Getting some help, Containment completes Three Barrel Cove.

Now Erdrique and Sttollen get to move onto the Red Fens (where they will both be guzzling down some slayer potions as reaching 7,500 max kills in that small zone is a huge task to do) while Cannock and Containment get to move on to the Searing Heights were they get to challenge some Sulatar drow and Blood Tide pirates.  Looking forward to it!!

Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in those explorer areas!!
