Questing into the Second Week of March, Quest Runs March 7th to 10th

During the second week of March, my questing was pretty much with mid-level characters or epic level characters.  It was also an abnormal week for me because I had to do some traveling for work to get some management training so I didn’t get as much questing in as I typically would.  I started out the week with my typical slayer run on Monday morning.  I took Wapoyei (Level 24 Cleric/Divine Crusader) into the High Road.  While out there I collected another six slayers and defeated the specter, The Eternal Wanderer.  Needless to say I didn’t have a whole lot of time to play that morning.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 18 Fighter) and I took him out into the Sands of Menechtarun for some slayers.  During this session, Hamllin focused on the gnolls and collected another 62 slayers in that area as well as taking down Stinkpelt.  That night, I logged on with Suppply (Level 10 Paladin) and Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and I took them into Searing Heights to run the quest Bargain of Blood.  It was another dual boxing session and I wanted to get my revenge from my horrible attempt at Bargain of Blood from the night before.  On the way out to the quest, I picked up another 13 slayers for Harrgon.  In Bargain of Blood, I was able to the complete the optional objectives for destroying the assassination logbook, meeting up with the House Deneith Party, and freeing the slaves.  After completing Bargain of Blood, and getting my revenge, I then headed off and to do the quest Under the Big Top.  As I made my way through the quest, I only picked up one optional objective and killed Maz’il’tilnik.  In the end chest, Harrgon picked up The Big Top and Diamond of +5 Hide while Suppply picked up the Antique Greataxe as a story arc reward for completing the Phiarlan Carnival Series.

On Tuesday morning, I was scheduled to play Neverwinter Nights II instead of the usual DDO.  I took my level 7 Spirit Shaman Ragnar further into the Warehouse in the Dock District of Neverwinter City.  For my afternoon run, I took Erdrique (Level 28 Rogue/Grandmaster of Flowers) into Sands of Menechtarun for some more slayers.  I also wanted to get something quick in before I headed out to Raleigh for my training.  While out there, I collected 57 gnoll slayers and came across Den Mother Fheena in the Windlasher Village.  That was all I could get in on Tuesday as I left shortly after that slayer run.

I took my computer with me on my training trip in Raleigh and was able to get a few more runs in during the week.  On Wednesday, I logged on with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) and I took him into The Lords of Dust on epic hard.  Kolll picked up 54 fragments of the Token of the Twelve, eight mysterious remnants, the Golden Guile, a monster manual deed for Rhaksasha Hunter for 2,260 experience, and 17 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  However, that was the only quest I was able to complete.

For Thursday,  I started out the day by taking Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) into the Ruins of Gianthold (Heroic) for some slayers.  Sludgge collected 51 Stormheart slayers, two Stormfist slayers, and one Stormeye slayer.  He also defeated the ogre mage, Uthger Runetusk.  That night I logged on with Kanndar (Level 13 Paladin) and Stoorage (Level 13 Fighter) and I took them both into the Tharashk Arena (VON 1) for another session of dual boxing.  The completed the optional objectives for defeating Angog the Champion, Myr’dril, the drunken ogres,  troll enforcers, Smashjaw, and Grogan.  I picked up a number of monster manual deeds during this run.  Kanndar picked up two monster manual deeds, one for minotaur hunter and another for kobold hunter, each awarding him 446 experience.  Stoorage collected a troll hunter monster manual deed for 1,943 experience.  Stoorage also looted a Diamond of +3 Intelligence.  That run closed out my activity for the week.

So, although it was an “off” week for me, I still had a number of interesting runs.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Gathering Some Epic Quests, Quest Runs January 29th to January 31st

I kicked off the weekend by taking Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) into the Ruins of Gianthold (Heroic).  Sludgge is working on gathering his 1,500 Stormheart Slayers.  During this quick morning session, he picked up 63 Stormheart slayers, 2 Stormeye slayers, and 1 Stormfist slayer.  He currently stands at 1,295 Stormheart slayers.  During this run he picked up one Ancient Dragon Relic from defeating Lord Cirrus.  In the afternoon, I took Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) into the challenge, Lava Caves: Colossal Crystal.  Hamllin completed the collecting of one progenitor crystal and the clearing out of the giant arena.  When the challenge was completed, he was awarded 284 Jade Scorpions.  That was the only afternoon run I was able to complete.  On Friday night, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Legendary Dreadnaught).  After checking in with the fellow Crypt Crawlers, I then headed off for the Red Fens to complete Into the Deep on epic hard.  I was expecting on having some trouble with crowd control in here and basically getting overwhelmed but that turned out not to be a problem at all.  While I was making my way through quest, Erdrique picked up a Water Elemental Hunter monster manual deed and picked up over 4,500 experience for it.  He also gathered a Scroll of the Greatclub of the Scrag.  I completed the optionals for reducing the loyalists forces (one times), the elimination of the scrag slaves, and defeated the Hezerou in the underwater pit.  In the end chest I gathered a Shard of the Raven’s Sight.  All told, I also picked up another 46 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.

After making way through the capstone of the Red Fens, I then started on the Vault of Night chain on epic hard.  For this set of runs, I was joined by Friedrice and we headed off to do the Tharashk Arena on epic hard.  Again, I was expecting on having some issues with being over whelmed during the arena fight.  However, that didn’t materialize either.  Once we entered the arena we headed straight off for a set of gates and as soon as they opened up we rushed in and took out the enemy combatants.  As we made our way to the arena, through the arena fight, and to complete the quest we completed the objectives for defeating Angog, Durge’s contact (Myr’dril), took out the drunken ogres, killed the troll enforcers, defeated Smashjaw, and defeated Grogan.  The only thing of note that I picked up was 54 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.  After we made it through the Tharashk Arena, we then headed to The Prisoner on epic hard.  The Prisoner was easier to make it through than the Tharashk Arena.  I picked up another monster manual deed while we were questing through The Prisoner, achieving quori exterminator I.  I also picked up a medium Eberron dragonshard fragment from a collectible, received a scroll for Stonemeld Plate, and picked up 46 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.  We also completed the optionals for killing the arcane oozes, Ingstoldt, his pests, and the gargoyle guardians.  We both called it a night after that run through.

On Saturday, I did some Risia Ice Game jumping with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion), who happens to be my default jumper, and picked up a couple purple coins.  Later that night, I logged back on with Erdrique and I took him into The Jungles of Khyber on epic hard.  The Jungle of Khyber is known for the large number of optional objectives it contains.  During this run, I completed the optional objectives for defeating Drinto Luridae, Blackheart Ambassador, Wumat Luridae, Chactar Luridae, and Huarn Luridae.  I also picked up  five mysterious remnants and 71 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.  After that run, I headed over to Haywire Foundry and ran that one on epic hard as well.  While questing through Haywire Foundry I completed the optional objectives for defeating the elementals, RC-1, RC-2, disabling the flame jets, and defeating 10 mithral defenders while escaping.  I also picked up a scroll for the Cloak of the Silver concord, 5 mysterious remnants, and 60 Fragments of the Token of the Twelve.  Neither quest caused me any issues on epic hard.  After running through Haywire Foundry, I called it a night.

Unfortunately I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked to on Sunday.  However, I did I get another opportunity to dual box :).  I was originally scheduled to play Kanndar (Level 13 Paladin).  So I also logged on with Stoorage (Level 14 Fighter) from my premium account and paired them up and took them out into Sorrowdusk Isle.  Kanndar is currently working on that explorer area and the Cult of the Six story arc.  I took them both through lower Sorrowdusk Isle and into upper Sorrowdusk Isle and ran the The Temple Outpost: Libram of the Six on elite.  While making our way through the explorer area, I cam across Teargon and Furley and collected 56 slayers for Kanndar.

Taking on the slimes in the Temple Outpost.

So those were my runs and activities over the weekend.  I actually gathered enough experience with Erdrique to take level 26 but haven’t done it quite yet.  I might go ahead and level him up but I was originally thinking of keeping that level “banked.”  Although, I don’t believe it really matters.  I still have quite a ways until I hit level 30.  Overall though, it was a good and fun weekend.  I hope everybody else had a great weekend as well!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in DDO!!

So Why Only Ready Room 1?

Recently, I took both Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) and Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) through the Tharashk Arena.  As I made my way past the arena promoter and then made it, rather forcibly, around the kobold registar, and into the back tunnels to each ready room, I began to wonder something.  Why are we only allowed access to Ready Room 1?

As many of you already know, as we explore the back end tunnels to the arena, the only key we ever come across is for Ready Room 1 which holds the troll gladiators.  I think it would be interesting if our party could locate the other keys as well and a make a decision in which set of gladiators to defeat and replace.  I know that in the epic levels that I would do my best to take over the Ready Room that holds those dang kobolds.

Wouldn’t be a little more interesting if we could take the place of a different set of monsters in the Tharashk Arena besides the trolls in Ready Room 1?

However, is there a specific reason why the troll gladiators are the only combatants we can replace?  The announcer and promoter seem to already know that we have taken their place, especially as we enter the arena and the announcer mentions us “newcomers” from “Stormreach.”  Perhaps the promoter is a little more intelligent than I give him credit for.  He is a bugbear after all and I don’t think bugbears are too widely well known for being intelligent.  In any case, I think it would add some depth to the quest.  I know that I would rather fight the trolls in the arena in place of the kobold shamans, or the minotaur shamans, or even the mephits.

What ready room would you take over if you had the chance to decide?  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Tharashk Arena.

Working Through Some Quests, Quest Runs January 22nd to January 24th

This past weekend was composed of a few interesting runs.  I kicked the weekend off by taking Tuhnn (Level 16 Bladeforged) into the Sands of Menechtarun.  While exploring the desert, Tuhnn gathered another five gnolls and 25 undead slayers.  He also encountered The Thirsty One.  I didn’t get a chance to log in during the afternoon, I had a little minor emergency and had to go to Best Buy to get some new charger cords for a FitBit Charge HR.  My wife had bought me the FitBit for Christmas and I have been kind of addicted to it since and I somehow lost the charge cable for it.  In any case, we took opportunity to go out and eat as well which meant I had to miss my afternoon run.  However, I did get back on that night.  Now typically I run Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Legendary Dreadnaught) on the weekend but some of the Crypt Crawlers wanted to run through the Heroic Ruins of Gianthold.  They were running level 14 to 16 characters so I brought Tuhnn back on instead of Erdrique.  We then headed out into the Gianthold slayer area.  Tuhnn gathered eight Stormfist slayers on his way to the Crucible.  We (being Helldemons, Blackvale, and myself) ventured through the Crucible on elite.  Tuhnn had a few problems, as he suffered some unfortunate deaths at the hands of the gnolls.  However, we did get through it and received quite a bit of experience.  Helldemons had to call it a night while Blackvale and I continued into the Prison of the Planes.  On my way through the Stormeye encampment, I collected 30 slayers and also picked up the explorer points for the Beast and the Brothers, Fields of Immolation, Gate of Shavarath, Crystal Spin Peak, and the entrance to the Prison of the Planes.  While in the Prison of the Planes, Tuhnn wound up getting killed in the Marut room, the Lamannia Room, and the Risia Room.  LOL, it was a little rough :).  But we did complete it.  After that run, Blackvale logged out and I switched characters to Erdrique.  I then took Erdrique into the quest A Small Problem on epic hard.  Erdrique had no issues making his way though Mammoth Valley.  I even collected a champion quest (had to have been from the onyx panther killing a named, I believe from a fire elemental).  I collected 56 Fragments of the Twelve from the end chest and 13 Commendations of Valor.  I then called it a night.

On Saturday, I logged on with Erdrique and I was joined by Hellorcish and Lunarhaze.  We then headed off into the Tide Turns on epic hard.  We had no problems making our way through the quest.  After that, we headed out to the Red Fens and made our way through The Last Stand and Fathom the Depths, on epic hard as well.  In Fathom the Depths, we also took out the cube guardian.  After we made it through those two quests Hellorcish and Lunarhaze both called it a night but I continued into the Claw of Vulkoor on epic hard.  I wasn’t skilled enough to pacify the guardian scorpions so I didn’t complete that optional but I did leave the treasure alone in the giant’s graveyard.  After that I called it a night.

Sunday night, I logged on with Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and I took him into Tharashk Arena on epic normal.  I had a great time with him in there.  The spells Dancing ball, Otto’s Irresistible Dance, and Greater Shout quite effectively.  I also had a blast using the epic destiny ability Reign.  Overall, it was a very fun run.  However, it was the only run I was able to complete that night.

So, my weekend was primarily split heroic Gianthold runs and epic questing.  Not a bad weekend at all!!  I hope everybody else had a great weekend too and I hope your week is just as great if not better!!  Happy hunting in Gianthold!!

Behind Enemy Lines

The other day I did something for the first time that I just thought was pretty funny.  I was running with Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) through the Tharashk Arena on epic normal when I made it to the arena fight.  Well, as I entered the arena, I immediately headed off to the take on the kobolds before their gate was raised.  After the narration was over, and the gate opened, I immediately ran in and starting fighting the kobolds.  However, as I made my way further into their staging area, the second opened up and I was able to slip through as I was trailing the kobold shamans.  I then realized that I was literally “behind enemy lines.”

Their were other kobolds in this area that weren’t interactable and were just milling around.  Meanwhile, I continued to beat down their brethren.  It was like they simply didn’t care their fellow comrades were being killed.  It reminded me of when somebody is at work and they are on break or lunch and refuse to help with anything until their allotted time off is over.  Too funny..

The same thing then happened with me when it came to the minotaurs.  I immediately ran into the staging area and then back into the ready room to just see the minotaur shaman just sitting there.  Too bad I couldn’t lay some type of trap in there or something so that when they do go “live” they would already be a little weekend.  Hm, you know I wonder if I could do that…

These minotaurs just simply don’t care….

In any case, I just thought it was funny for these monsterous teammates just watching as their members are being destroyed.  What lazy monsters!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the Tharashk Arena!!

Another Epic Style Weekend, Quest Runs January 15th to January 17th

This past weekend was dominated by another set of epic questing.  However, it all wasn’t just with Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Primal Avatar).  With this past weekend accounting for the third Saturday in January, I didn’t log in that night so that I could spend a weekend date night with my wife.  However, I did some more epic questing with my other rogue, Sludgge (Level 22 Rogue/Shadowdancer) on Sunday.  But to start the weekend out, I did a slayer run with Berann (Level 9 Barbarian) and Containment (Level 7 Cleric) through Tangleroot Gorge on Friday morning.  Both of these characters are still working on finishing up this area and I believe they both don’t have much left to go before they can move onto Three Barrel Cove.  I continued that theme on Friday afternoon when I logged on with Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) and took him through the Sands of Menechtarun for some more slayers out in the Valley of the False Tombs (collecting those undead slayers).  Later that night, I logged on with Erdrique and after taking care of some maintenance issues I took him into The Black Loch and Storm the Beaches on epic normal.  Erdrique had no issues working through the Black Loch but the ballistae in Storm the Beaches did cause me some problems.  Well, actually it wasn’t the ballistae causing me problems, but the sneaky drow pirates that I couldn’t detect that stole past me and used them to destroy me.  However, after restarting the quest once, I did make my way through it.  After completing the quest I called it a night.

As I already mentioned, I didn’t log on and play on Saturday.  The only thing I did Saturday was to take care of some small maintenance tasks (daily dice, etc.).  On Sunday, I logged on with Sludgge and decided to take him into the Lava Caves to run Time is Money.  After that run through, I then headed out to do Tharashk Arena on epic normal.  After I completed the Tharashk Arena I then headed back into the Lava Caves: Time is Money for another quick challenge run.  I then closed out the night by completing The Jungle of Khyber on epic normal.

So those were my rather simple runs for this past weekend.  Although it was a light weekend, it was still a fun one.  I hope everybody else had a great weekend as well and I hope everybody has a great week as well.  Thanks for reading and happy hunting!!

Disappointing Weekend, Quest Runs December 4th to December 6th

Well, I must say that I don’t have a set of runs that are very disappointing very often in DDO.  However, this past weekend just happened to be one of those rare occasions.  The weekend started out quite well.  Friday morning, I took Berann (Level 9 Barbarian) and Containment (Level 7 Cleric), dual boxing, into Tangleroot Gorge for some slayer runs.  I then continued with some questing in the afternoon after I got home from work and took Erdrique (Level 23 Rogue/Primal Avatar) through the quest Reclaiming Memories out in the Isle of Forgotten Dreams.  That run went really well.  My disappointing runs didn’t start until Friday night.  I logged on with Erdrique and this time I took him back out into Eveningstar and into the Storm Horns.  For there, I made my way to the quest, A Break in the Ice and had a fun time going through the glacier to find Rungnir and to watch him then attack me.  After completing the quest I forwarded the chain and was set on the path to What Goes Up.  So I re-entered the Storm Horns and made the trek to the quest entrance to the capstone of the Storm Horns.  Now, this is where the disappointments began.  I entered What Goes Up on heroic elite, making it a level 21 quest, and made my way through the first segment of the quest and then started into the second segment of the quest after you find Oriphaun and was surprised by the Shadar-ki assassins.  After some maneuvering, I was able to get past them and into the third segment of the quest where you enter onto the floating glacier.  Now this is where I ran into some real problems.  First off, I underestimated the number of enemies on this floating rock and was actually overwhelmed and had to get raised back up.  I eventually made my way to the end fight, where I eventually realized that all of the Shadar-ki respawn and that the floating pillars need to be destroyed.  I was too focused on fighting the end boss and before I knew it, all of my available resources were blown on respawning mobs.  At that point, things didn’t end so well.  I was in the quest for so long, that I had to call it a night.

Finally locating Oriphaun in What Goes Up.

On Saturday, I tried it again.  I went back to the Storm Horns and start the quest What Goes Up once again.  This time, I had issues with the first two segments of the quest at all and made it to the last fight in the third segment without any major issues at all.  However, the end fight itself didn’t go so well.  This time I ignored the respawning Shadar-ki as much as I could, and the ice elementals, and took down the four flight pillars.  I was then surprised to see another objective come up to defeat some Shadovars.  This is where I started to run into some problems.  I had died once or twice before taking down the flight pillars but when I had to fight the Shadovars, I died multiple times.  At first, I would sneak up to each Shadovar.  While doing this, I would station my hirelings away from the top of the mountain and once I got to the Shadovar I would summon them to me and then commence to kill them.  I was successful doing this for two of the four Shadovar but I eventually suffered so many deaths that all of my equipment was broken and my ability to sneak and hide was compromised.  I also went through two quartstaves and didn’t have an adequate weapon to continue the fight.  I had recalled from the quest about three times to use the shrine in the Storm Horns in front of the quest as well.  After spending over three hours in there I had to call it a night.  It was a tough pill to swallow, especially since I new I only had two Shadovar left to kill and the end boss literally had just a sliver of life.  I had tried to finish him off as well, but he didn’t seem to be taking any more damage after a certain point.  Oh how disappointing!!

What a view from the floating glacier.

On Sunday, things went a little better.  I was scheduled to log in with Sludgge (Level 21 Rogue/Shadowdancer).  Sludgge recently finished running the Red Fens on epic normal so now I turned to the Vault of Night series and ran Tharashk Arena and The Prisoner on epic normal.  Both of those runs went quite well.  Which is what I needed after my horrible defeat on Saturday night :(.  I called it a night after I made it through the Prisoner.

The weekend was also disappointing because I wasn’t able to get any extra quest runs in during the day on Saturday or Sunday.  The past few weeks I was able to get some slayers in or some challenges completed during the day but that just wasn’t the case this weekend.  Although the weekend was disappointing, I still made some progress so that is good :).  I hope everybody else had a great weekend and thanks for reading!!  Happy hunting in the Storm Horns everybody!!
