Working Through Some Quests, Quest Runs January 22nd to January 24th

This past weekend was composed of a few interesting runs.  I kicked the weekend off by taking Tuhnn (Level 16 Bladeforged) into the Sands of Menechtarun.  While exploring the desert, Tuhnn gathered another five gnolls and 25 undead slayers.  He also encountered The Thirsty One.  I didn’t get a chance to log in during the afternoon, I had a little minor emergency and had to go to Best Buy to get some new charger cords for a FitBit Charge HR.  My wife had bought me the FitBit for Christmas and I have been kind of addicted to it since and I somehow lost the charge cable for it.  In any case, we took opportunity to go out and eat as well which meant I had to miss my afternoon run.  However, I did get back on that night.  Now typically I run Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Legendary Dreadnaught) on the weekend but some of the Crypt Crawlers wanted to run through the Heroic Ruins of Gianthold.  They were running level 14 to 16 characters so I brought Tuhnn back on instead of Erdrique.  We then headed out into the Gianthold slayer area.  Tuhnn gathered eight Stormfist slayers on his way to the Crucible.  We (being Helldemons, Blackvale, and myself) ventured through the Crucible on elite.  Tuhnn had a few problems, as he suffered some unfortunate deaths at the hands of the gnolls.  However, we did get through it and received quite a bit of experience.  Helldemons had to call it a night while Blackvale and I continued into the Prison of the Planes.  On my way through the Stormeye encampment, I collected 30 slayers and also picked up the explorer points for the Beast and the Brothers, Fields of Immolation, Gate of Shavarath, Crystal Spin Peak, and the entrance to the Prison of the Planes.  While in the Prison of the Planes, Tuhnn wound up getting killed in the Marut room, the Lamannia Room, and the Risia Room.  LOL, it was a little rough :).  But we did complete it.  After that run, Blackvale logged out and I switched characters to Erdrique.  I then took Erdrique into the quest A Small Problem on epic hard.  Erdrique had no issues making his way though Mammoth Valley.  I even collected a champion quest (had to have been from the onyx panther killing a named, I believe from a fire elemental).  I collected 56 Fragments of the Twelve from the end chest and 13 Commendations of Valor.  I then called it a night.

On Saturday, I logged on with Erdrique and I was joined by Hellorcish and Lunarhaze.  We then headed off into the Tide Turns on epic hard.  We had no problems making our way through the quest.  After that, we headed out to the Red Fens and made our way through The Last Stand and Fathom the Depths, on epic hard as well.  In Fathom the Depths, we also took out the cube guardian.  After we made it through those two quests Hellorcish and Lunarhaze both called it a night but I continued into the Claw of Vulkoor on epic hard.  I wasn’t skilled enough to pacify the guardian scorpions so I didn’t complete that optional but I did leave the treasure alone in the giant’s graveyard.  After that I called it a night.

Sunday night, I logged on with Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and I took him into Tharashk Arena on epic normal.  I had a great time with him in there.  The spells Dancing ball, Otto’s Irresistible Dance, and Greater Shout quite effectively.  I also had a blast using the epic destiny ability Reign.  Overall, it was a very fun run.  However, it was the only run I was able to complete that night.

So, my weekend was primarily split heroic Gianthold runs and epic questing.  Not a bad weekend at all!!  I hope everybody else had a great weekend too and I hope your week is just as great if not better!!  Happy hunting in Gianthold!!

Having Some Old Style Fun

One of the highlights for me this past weekend was completing some runs in Gianthold.  One of the quests that I will typically bypass during Erdrique’s (Rogue Level 18) heroic past lives is The Crucible.  The Crucible has a unique history.  When Gianthold was first released, this quest used to be one of the three flagging quests to enter Gianthold Tor.  This was changed a few years ago when that requirement was switched to A Cabal for One.  The Crucible is one of those quests where many players either hate it or they love it.  It has a number of challenging and interesting aspects that can make completing it aggravating and quite frustrating.  In the beginning of the quest you have to start out by making your way through a maze, while dodging the spells and arrows of gnoll casters and rangers.  Then you get the joy of having to make your way through a trapped obstacle course within a set amount of time, then you get the fun challenge of finding the appropriate door to open while hopefully not getting blown up, and then you get thrown into a flowing river and have to navigate a treacherous swim that is full of spikes that river’s current forces you into.  After all of this, you then get pitted against the enemy bosses in an all out battle royal.  The most notable issue with this quest is by far the swim and many players have had so many issues with the swim that they refuse to do crucible.  Characters that have improved evasion and high reflex saves reign supreme during this portion of the quest.

Preparing for further combat in Gianthold Tor.

I have to admit, I’m typically not playing a high reflex save character but I figured during this life that it would be fun to give the Crucible a try this past weekend, especially with two of my fellow guild members being on.  In the past I, I dreaded the maze and feared the swim.  Although we did get turned around in the maze a couple of times, we made it through quite painlessly.  I also do did the swim and had no problems at all.  Overall, making our way through these obstacles and through the quest turned out to be an extremely fun time and we all had a great time.  And to make things even better, our quest run didn’t take long at all.  In the past, it wasn’t unusual for me to get stuck in that quest for at least an hour and a half.  This time we made our way through it in about 45 minutes or so.  This run through the Crucible has was just a fun experience for me!!

The second quest that was extremely enjoyable for me this weekend was our run through Gianthold Tor.  Typically I have been completing this quest by myself and just getting the quest completed and working on the optional objectives of taking on the dragons and their giant guardians.  This time though we decided to give them a shot.  I had expected to run into some problems with the dragons, especially the white dragon and stone giant.  However, the exact opposite happened.  Yes, some of us did get killed but we never wiped at any of the encounters and a couple of times I was able to score the killing blows on the dragon and the giant, such as I did with the black dragon and his fire giant guardian, Blaze.

Looking at my combat log, I was lucky enough to land the killing blows on both Rhindvutha and Blaze.

All in all, it was fun and I forgot how much fun those quests and/or aspects of those quests can be.  Of course now, if we were getting slaughtered I probably wouldn’t thought it was that fun.  But in either case, we all had a good time 🙂 and got some more dragon scales for our efforts!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting out in Gianthold!!

A Fun Weekend, Quest Runs September 4th to September 6th

This past weekend brought about some fun and fond memories for me!!  Especially concerning a couple of the quests in Ruins of Gianthold.  My weekend started out with a morning slayer run on Friday prior to work with Suppply (Level 9 Paladin) who is working on finalizing up Three Barrel Cove.  Suppply is nearly done out there.  I think he needs one more rare encounter and two more explorer points.  After he finishes that up he will be heading out into Sorrowdusk Isle.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 16 Fighter) and I took him out into the Sands of Menechtarun for some afternoon slayer runs.  Later on Friday night, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 18 Rogue) and I took him back out into the Red Fens for some slayers to start out the night.  Erdrique is steadily closing in on that 7,500 slayer mark.  After I made my circuit in the Red Fens, I then took him out into the Ruins of Gianthold.  While out there I head off and completed A Cabal for One, destroying the hobgoblin tribes.  Once I completed that run, I decided to do a challenge and headed out to House Cannith and ran the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage.  I’m working on gathering some ingredients for a Cloak of Flames for my druid, Cannock (Level 7).  After I completed a run through Labor Shortage, a then went back to the Ruins of Gianthold and completed Madstone Crater.  When I headed out to Madstone Crater I had put up a group in the LFG panel and had one PUG member join me when I was finished with the second seer.  It was good to see at least one pug join me :).  After a quick break, I then ran another iteration of Labor Shortage and then I called it a night.

Saturday was even more productive than Friday.  During Saturday afternoon, I took some time between my chores and my yard work to take Erdrique through some Cannith Challenges to keep gathering ingredients for Cannock’s Cloak of Flames.  I wound up running the Lave Caves: Time is Money four different times.  Saturday night, I got up with Hellbanisher and Okhamel and we had some fun times in the Ruins of Gianthold.  The first quest we hit up was Prison of the Planes.  Prison of the Planes was the last quest I needed to completed to get into Gianthold Tor.  However, once we completed the Prison of the Planes, we decided to give a The Crucible a try.  It had been quite awhile since I last ran the Crucible and figured it would be fun to give it a go.  We headed off and we made short work of it!!  I was expecting us to get bogged down in the maze and in the swim but we made it through both areas easily.  I did the swim with Erdrique and it was perhaps the smoothest swim I have done as of yet.  Then again, I’m not a Crucible expert.  After we completed the Crucible, we then decided to run Gianthold Tor.  We made our way through it without any problems.  Once we completed the quest, we then decided to give the three dragons a shot.  We were on elite so we were expecting on having some issues.  However, we expected wrong.  We took on the black dragon and his fire giant guardian first, then we took on the blue dragon and his cloud giant partner, and finished with the white dragon and his stone giant companion.  None of them gave us much of an issue.  I was quite surprised by that and have to admit it was quite fun taking them on again.  After we completed the Tor, I cashed in my saga reward for a huge boost in guild renown and Hellbanisher called it a night.  After Hellbanisher logged out, Okhamel and I then headed out into the Orchard of the Macabre.  While out there we ran through the Fleshmaker’s Laboratory on elite, including the optional objective.  After that, we both called it a night.

Sunday, similar to Saturday, I took some time between my chores and yard work to get a few challenge runs in.  I actually got up with Khamelbush and we ran Lave Caves: Time is Money twice and the Extraplanar Palace: Labor Shortage twice during the afternoon.  That night, I gave Erdrique a break and logged on with Cantlin (Level 12 Sorcerer) and I got up with Twotoe, Purplepower, and Clairique and we ran through all of the Sentinels of Stormreach quest on elite.  We breezed through Bargain of Blood and the Black Loch.  We then headed off to Storm the Beaches and we had a PUG join our group.  We did run into some problems here but not many.  We then moved onto the quest The Tide Turns and finished the storyline.  We still need to hit up the quest, Spies in the House but overall it was great set of runs!!

As a recap, this past Labor Day Weekend was quite productive indeed for me.  I was able to get a number of quests completed, even some quests that I have completed in quite a bit of time.  It was definitely a fun time!!  I hope everybody else had a great weekend and I hope everybody enjoy their holiday weekend (at least those in the US).  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!
