Knocking Out Some More Slayer Areas

One of things that I like to try to do with my questing schedule it to make sure I get some time to complete explorer zones. I usually try to do some explorer area runs right after I get home from work during the typical work week and on Monday nights when I’m also playing digital PNP with some friends (since my attention can be diverted from DDO on those nights for quite a bit of time).  Recently, I completed a few of these areas.

Erdrique (Level 13 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 14 Rogue), while dual boxing, completed Sorrowdusk Isle.  It took me forever to finally come across Vermilo during this go round but he eventually sprang forward.

Erdrique and Sttollen finally find Vermilo to finish up Sorrowdusk Isle.

Cannock (Level 9 Druid) completed Tangleroot Gorge, which was ironic because he completed Three Barrel Cove prior to Tangleroot Gorge, primarily because he was also dual boxing with my other account and the majority of my characters on that account happened to need Three Barrel Cove.  Therefore, Cannock saw more time in that area.  But he eventually completed Tangleroot.

Cannock finally finishes Tangleroot Gorge.

To end things out Containment (Level 9 Cleric) maxed out Three Barrel Cove, where he received a lot of help from Cannock and Berann (Level 10 Barbarian).

Getting some help, Containment completes Three Barrel Cove.

Now Erdrique and Sttollen get to move onto the Red Fens (where they will both be guzzling down some slayer potions as reaching 7,500 max kills in that small zone is a huge task to do) while Cannock and Containment get to move on to the Searing Heights were they get to challenge some Sulatar drow and Blood Tide pirates.  Looking forward to it!!

Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in those explorer areas!!

Working On Another Week, February 12th and 18th

My quest runs this week included some runs across a mulitude of levels, as well as various outcomes.  To kick the week off, I logged on with Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and Suppply (Level 11 Paladin) and I took them into The Grey Moon’s Den: The Trollish Scourge.  On the way to the quest, they both collected 11 slayers for Sorrowdusk Isle.  Once I made into the quest I ran into some difficulties while playing Harrgon.  Harrgon was ripped apart five times by various champions.  It really emphasized how under geared he really is and I will need to work on that.  Hopefully I can rebuild my stock of essences and have Erdrique (Level 11 Bard) craft Harrgon some equipment.  In the end, I had to have Suppply bail out Harrgon but I was able to get the quest completed.  They also took out Shaman Herpostaw as well as all of the ogre collaborators.

On Monday, I logged back on with Suppply and Harrgon and took them back out into Sorrowdusk Isle for some slayers while I was also playing my weekly digital table top game.  While hunting in Sorrowdusk Isle, they collected 270 slayers out there.  Harrgon hit his 750 slayer mark and Suppply picked up two monster manual deeds, spider (1,200 experience) and scorpion (1,500 experience) exterminator II.  They also defeated the rare encounters Saate (2), Vermilo (2), Teargon, Kremen, Kurmer, Furley, and Noozer.  Harrgon was also able to finish collecting all rare encounters as well.

I logged on Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and I took him into the King’s Forest for some slayers.  While out there, he defeated two dire bears, one drow priestess, and came across the random encounters for the Knight’s Plight and Knight’s Collar.  He also picked up a purple dragon knight commendation and 46 slayers.  Shortly after that run, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Shadowdancer) and I decided to try The Devil’s Details on heroic elite.  It has been quite a while since I have ventured in here and I was rudely awaken by the onslaught of abishai as I made it further into the quest.  Needless to say I wiped in dramatic fashion.  I will have to try to get my revenge later.  Later that night, I logged on with Kolll (Level 22 Ranger/Shiradi Champion) and I took him into the quest Impossible Demands on epic hard with my new lioness and my onyx panther and owlbear.  Although Kolll suffered a few defeats, he did complete the quest and picked up 16 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  Kolll also picked up seven slayers in the King’s Forest as his way to the quest as well as the random encounter Money and Life.  He completed the optional objectives for saving the hostages, defeating Warleader Speitar and slaying the spider pet Akorstra.  I still had some time left, so I did a quick favor run with Kolll and ran through the Sacred Helm before calling it a night (picked up the Cloven-Jaw Longbow for the effort).

During Wednesday, I logged on with Containment (Level 8 Cleric) and Cannock (Level 8) Druid and I took them into Three Barrel Cove for some daily slayer action.  They collected 186 slayers which included Ilmarin Tychoon, Ithun Orenah, Vitia, Dulse, Dybesh Relix, and Strinati.  Containment also hit the 500 slayer mark and found a few more explorer points.  After that run, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen (Level 12 Rogue) and I took them into the Grey Moon’s Den: Extermination.  On the way to the quest, they picked up 11 slayers.  They also completed the optional objective for slaying Blizzard and all of the trolls.  Erdrique also picked up a monster manual deed for ooze exterminator IV (account award) while Sttollen picked up a monster manual deed for human expertise (account award).  That was all I was able to get through on Wednesday as I spent the rest of the night with my wife for our weekly date night.

For Thursday, my single quest run consisted of another dual boxing episode with Charlock (Level 16 Fighter) and Stoorage (Level 15 Fighter) who both ventured into the Red Fens.  While out there, Charlock collected 104 slayers while Stoorage collected 107 slayers (with a minor slayer potion).  They also came across Crooktooth, Kar Xyr, and Nab Ren.

Friday, I kicked things off by dual boxing with Lorrikk (Level 13 Monk) and Stoorage and entered the Red Fens for some slayers.  They both collected 117 slayers and came across Mudfoot, Fencreeper, Kar Xyr, Nab Ben, Sharkbiter, and Gorger.  Lorrikk also picked up a monster manual deed of monstrous plant exterminator (1,100 experience).  Later that night, I logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and I took them Free Delera on elite.  They completed the optional objective for slaying the soul lock guardians.  Erdrique picked up 26 mysterious remnants while Sttollen picked up 12 mysterious remnants.  I then took Erdrique and Sttollen out into Searing Heights for more slayers.  They picked up 103 slayers and both hit the 750 slayer mark.  They also defeated Guck, Calcine, and Hazai Haatha.  Erdrique also picked up the monster manual deed for wolf exterminator IV and picked up another 3,390 experience.

To close out the week, I logged Erdrique and Sttollen during the mid-afternoon and I took them into the Searing Heights in hope to find their last rare encounter.  After a few attempts I finally came across the last rare encounter for them, Smolder.  They also came across and defeated Giallo and Ghamzee.  In doing this, Erdrique also picked up monster manual deeds for drow exterminator II, fire elemental exterminator II, fire elemental hunter, and fire elemental expertise II.  As a result, Erdrique picked up the fire elemental creature companion 🙂 and he and Sttollen completed the Searing Heights.

Needless to say it was a busier week than the week prior and just as diverse.  Erdrique and Sttollen are now going to finish making their stamp in Sorrowdusk Isle.  We’ll see what the rest of the new week has for me!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

The Week in Review, February 5th to 11th

Taking a look back at my quests this week, I realized that it was a lighter than normal week for me.  I didn’t kicked off my quest runs until Monday.  I started out with a slayer run where I took Kanndar (Level 13 Paladin) and Stoorage (Level 15 Fighter) into the Red Fens for some slayers during one of my many dual boxing efforts.  During that run, Kanndar picked up 99 slayers while Stoorage collected 123 (Stoorage was running a minor or a lesser slayer count boost).  They also came across the rare encounters: Kar Xyr, Vyx Ka, and Gorger.  Shortly after that run, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 20 Fighter/Shadowdancer) and I took him into the quest Demon Assault on heroic elite.  In the past, I have had a number of difficulties in here, even at level 20, because of my cleric hireling being just swarmed.  In this run, I actually did complete it however it was pretty rough.  I  suffered eight deaths and had to re-enter twice.  But it is now done!!  I also picked up a monster manual deed for Glaberzou hunter.  To close out the night, I logged on with Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) and Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and I thought them into Three Barrel Cove for some simple explorers, slayers, and rares because I was also playing our digital table top game.  They both picked up 230 slayers with Crawlller hit his 750 slayer mark.  They came across the rare encounters for Ilmarin Tychonn, Ithun Orenah, Vitia,  Thrum, Brine, Dulse, and Strinati.  Cannock looted the Sky Pirate’s Dagger during that run.  I called it a night after that.

I logged on Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and Suppply (Level 11 Paladin) and I took them hunting into Sorrowdusk Isle.  They collected 116 slayers and Harrgon picked up the rest of the explorer points.  They also came across Barxer and Saate.  After than run, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 11 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 12 Rogue) and I took them into Tangleroot Gorge and completed the Assault on Splinterskull story arc by completing The Last Move: The Way to Yarkuch and The Last Move: Yarkuch’s Last Stand.  I completed the optional objective for slaying Warmaster Muurj.  To close out the night, I logged with Larrs (Level 21 Bard/Fatesinger) and I took him into Tomb of the Wizard King on epic normal.  Larrs picked up a monster manual deed for clay golum hunter (2,350 experience) and he also picked up scrolls for the Mummy Wrappings and Dustless Boots.  He also collected 52 fragments of the Token of the Twelve and received 11 commendations of valor as a quest reward.  He also completed the optional objectives for slaying all of the guardians, the eternal gatekeepers, and breaking into the vault.

I didn’t log into game again until Thursday when I dual boxed with Cantlin (Level 13 Sorcerer) and Stoorage and took them into the Red Fens for some slayers.  Cantlin picked up a monster manual deed for sahaugin exterminator (353 experience) and hit the 100 slayer mark.  Cantlin picked up 61 slayers while Stoorage received 76.  They also came across Sharkbiter, Beacon, and Riptide.  I then logged on with Erdrique and Sttollen and dual boxed again and took them through The Grey Moon’s Den: The Trollish Scourge.  They collected nine slayers on the way to the quest and Erdrique picked up two monster manual deeds: troll exterminator I (423 experience) and troll hunter (2,034 experience).  They also collected the optional objectives for defeating all of the ogre collaborators and Shaman Herpostaw.  I didn’t get a chance to log in that night and didn’t log back in until Saturday.

On Saturday, I spent quite a bit of time working on some Cannith Crafting with Erdrique.  By the time I was done, I only had enough time to run one quest.  So I logged on Sttollen as well and took them both into Gwylan’s Stand on elite.  They made it through the quest without any issues but they only picked up one optional named monster: Maneater.  Sttollen did pick up the Roguebane Breastplate and they both picked up Gwylan’s Blade.

So overall it was a lighter week but the spread of quest runs was nice.  Had some runs through a few explorer areas, an epic quest run, and some more quests for Hammy and Erdrique.  Now time to move onto next week :)!!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

The Test of a Pirate

If your a pirate in DDO, the place to head to is Three Barrel Cove.  Three Barrel Cove is basically the haven for the pirates of the Thunder Sea.  The quests found within Three Barrel Cove are basically focused on your ability and skill to see if you can meet the demands necessary for the life of a pirate.  One of these quests is The Scondrel’s Run.  The Scondrel’s Run is one of the premier tests for any would be pirate.

Upon hearing this, one would think that the quest is filled with traps, challenging obstacles and puzzles, and the need to defeat other would be pirates.  However, for the most part, The Scondrel’s Run doesn’t contain many of these features.  Perhaps the most surprising is that the enemies you encounter are primarily minotaurs (although you do encounter a few earth elementals, scorpions, and bats). I would expect to be facing off against other pirates, whether they be human or some other type of humanoid.  Not necessarily minotaurs.

screenshot00517_zps6xwcrjlk

Erdrique making his way through The Scondrel’s Run.

So I began to wonder what would be a plausible explanation for the minotaurs to be the primary test for new pirates.  I then wondered if this was due to some type of arrangement made between the pirates of Three Barrel Cove and one of the minotaur clans present in Xen’drik.  I can see the pirate captains and leaders forming some type of loose arrangement with the minotaurs.  Perhaps the pirate leaders have contracted out the minotaurs to test out any new recruits, with the added benefit they can do whatever they feel with anybody who can’t pass the test.  This would explain why the minotaurs are present in Three Barrel Cove (besides those few who are actually pirates themselves).

However, what clan these minotaurs are coming from is still unknown.  There are a few possibilities but I’m entirely sure I have enough information to make a connection to any of them.  Of course, I could be completely off base and maybe the minotaurs are in Three Barrel Cove because they migrated there on their own and made a home in the mines and now the pirates just exploit this opportunity to use it as a test.  But then again, that would favor the strong possibility of the minotaurs getting extremely upset and attacking all of the pirates of Three Barrel Cove and I’m quite certain that the pirates wouldn’t want that.

Definitely some interesting connections there.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in The Scondrel’s Run.

Completing a Few More Explorer Areas

This past weekend two of my characters completed two explorer areas, meaning that they discovered all of the explorer points, defeated all of the rare encounters, and maximized the slayer count for those areas.  My characters, Erdrique (Level 9 Bard) and Sttollen (Level 10 Rogue) knocked out  Tangleroot Gorge and Three Barrel Cove.  Tangleroot Gorge is a level 4 area (with full experience being awarded to characters between levels 2 and 7) and it contains 13 explorer areas, 9 rare encounters, and a maximum slayer count of 1,500.  The types of enemies you encounter include the ever persistent hobgoblins, wolves, worgs, spiders, scorpions, troglodytes, bugbears, ogres (including a named ogre mage), a named hill giant, and even a single rust monster.  With the rare encounters, I have typically found that locating Kornak, the ogre mage, and Gharjat, the hobgoblin commander, the hardest to find.

Sttollen gets his turn to complete Tangleroot Gorge (it took him an extra run or so because Erdrique had used some slayer potions).

Three Barrel Cove is a level higher (level 5) with full experience being awarded to characters between levels 3 and 8.  The landscape of Three Barrel Cove is much larger than Tangleroot Gorge and some of this is reflected in the number of explorer points, increasing up to 20.  Three Barrel Cove also contains 14 rare encounters and also has a maximum slayer count of 1,500.  Three Barrel Cove is dominated by various types of pirates, it is after all a pirate haven.  These  pirates include minotaurs, orcs, hobgoblins, humans, dwarves, drow, halfings, bugbears, warforged, and kobolds.  These pirates also have pet dogs, worgs, and rats.  Their is also a number of natural dangers to worry about including scorpions, hyenas, sahuagin, a named scrag, spiders, mephits, a named earth elemental, and fire elementals.  Three barrel cove even has some unnatural enemies in the form of skeletons and zombie rats.  For the rare explorers, I have generally had the most difficulty coming across Ilmarin Tychonn, Dybesh Relix, Chortle, and Ithun Orenah.

While I was making my way through Tangleroot Gorge, Erdrique was using a slayer potion so he reached the maximum slayer count before Stollen (I have been dual boxing these characters since I reincarnated Erdrique as a bard).  But I did complete the slayer area in another run or two with Sttollen.  For Three Barrel Cove, they both complete the area at the same time.

It is now time to start collecting and exploring in Searing Heights and then off into Sorrowdusk Isle.

Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Highlighting More Quest Runs April 4th to April 7th

The runs during the first full week of April started with a dual boxing session with Lorrikk (Level 14 Monk) and Stoorage (Level 16 Fighter) through Sorrowdusk Isle.  Stoorage already had that area maxed out and Lorrikk was only able to pick up three slayers before I ran into some computer issues and got booted out.  By the time I got everything up and running again, I had to head out to work.  I didn’t get on during the afternoon, but later that night I logged on with Rimuldar (Level 23 Wizard/Draconic Incarnation).  I then took him into the Sschindylryn and made my way to the quest, The Portal Opens.  As I took Rimuldar through the dangerous drow city, he picked up another 9 slayers for the drow and another 4 slayers for the Children of Lolth.  Once inside the Portal Opens, on epic normal, Rimuldar had no major problems dealing with the drow.  He defeated at least one priestess of Lolth.  His loot included two commendations (War Wizard and Village of Eveningstar), a sapphire of spell agility +15, and the blade of the high priestess.  He also picked up 11 commendations of Valor as a quest reward.

To kick things off on Tuesday, I started out with another dual boxing session with a slayer run through Sorrowdusk Isle with Lorrikk and Stoorage once again.  Even though I had taken Lorrikk and Stoorage into Sorrowdusk Isle the day before, I did this because of my shortened play time that unexpectedly occurred.  This time, Lorrikk collected 52 slayers.  Lorrikk and Stoorage also defeated Teargon, Barxer, and Kurmer.  Out of one of these chests, Stoorage looted a nice pair of boots, Boots of Diversion 7 that were masterful craftsmanship with Speed IV at level 7.  I didn’t get a chance to complete an afternoon run.  For my regular play session, I had another dual boxing session with Containment (Level 8 Cleric) and Cannock (Level 8 Druid).  Containment needed to complete the Sharn Syndicate series on elite so I took them into the next quest he needed, Bookbinder Rescue.  I had a number of issues getting through this quest during this go around.  I failed the quest twice because of various lag spike issues.  I did complete it on the third attempt but Containment was killed so I had to complete it with Cannock (as my focus was on playing Containment that night).  After struggling through the Bookbinder Rescue, I then took them both into Repossession.  I had no problems making my way through the quest and I had completed the optional objectives to smash the furniture, kill the master of hounds, and to steal 3, 6, and all artifacts.  I then called it a night.

Containment working on rescuing the Book Binder family.

On Wednesday, I had yet another dual boxing session to kick things off.  This time I took Cannock and Crawlller (Level 8 Ranger) into Three Barrel Cove.  The morning slayer run netted both Cannock and Crawlller with 25 slayers.  In the afternoon, I took Erdrique (who is now a Level 3 Rogue) into the Sands of Menechtarun.  It was kind of a disappointing run though.  He didn’t come across any rare encounters but did collect some more slayers including eight gnolls and 89 scorrow.  That was the last run I completed on Wednesday.

Crawlller swimming his way back to the ladder in Three Barrel Cove.

Erdrique making his presence felt in the Desert.

On Thursday, I was only able to get in a single play session.  It was another dual boxing session, this time with Berann (Level 8 Barbarian) and Containment.  Berann was my focus and he still needed to work on Tangleroot Gorge wilderness area.  During this morning slayer run, Berann collected 28 slayers and defeated Clamor.  He also looted a Minor Circlet of Blasting from Clamor’s chest.

Berann looting some interesting things in Tangleroot Gorge.

So this particular week was heavily loaded with dual boxing runs.  I also had some minor issues with my computer and some lag issues causing some frustrations.  But overall, it was a nice but light week.  I hope everybody is doing well and thank you for reading!!

Completing A Saga and Another Story Arc

One of the things I enjoy doing is trying to get back into the swing of things after a relatively long vacation and trying to remember how to make my way back through my favorite game, DDO :).  I recently just came back from spending about a week or so in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Sevierville, Tennessee with immediate and extended family.  We had a blast while we were out there but at the same time I was separated from my desktop computer and couldn’t log into DDO.

We made it back home on Saturday and I logged in with Erdrique (Level 30 Rogue/Shadowdancer) later that night and spent a good amount of time just catching up on character maintenance and then trying the quest The Thrill of the Hunt on epic hard but unfortunately came up short on completing it.  Not only was this particular quest one of the lesser known quests for me, I also needed to catch back up to speed with the mechanics of the game.

Things turned out much better on Sunday.  I dual boxed with Harrgon (Level 11 Favored Soul) and Suppply (Level 10 Paladin) and they were working cooperatively through the Sentinels of Stormreach Story Arc.  The last quest I needed was The Tide Turns.  I took them both into the quest to take on Captain Tew and his Blood Tide Pirates on elite.  I primarily moved through the quest with Suppply as he was the one I was scheduled to play originally.  This particular quest I know fairly well and its outcome was much better than I had occurred on Saturday night.

Suppply looking at his rewards for the Sentinels of Stormreach Story arc.

Harrgon also taking a look at his reward list for the Sentinels of Stormreach chain.

I was able to progress both Suppply and Harrgon through the Tide Turns, with some minor deathers in the traps, and was able to complete the Sentinel Story Arc with both characters.  I also had another little bonus with Harrgon.  He had also already completed all of the Three Barrel Cove quests that are part of the The Pirates of the Thunder Sea (Heroic) saga.  In fact, the only quest Harrgon didn’t have credit for was Irestone Inlet but that was because he had that quest completed well before that saga was developed.  So I went ahead and used my VIP ability to skip that quest to get the elite saga award for Harrgon.  I wound up picking up the guild renown and received a nice chunk of 51,000 renown for the Crypt Crawlers.  Nice indeed!!

So it was good to be able to complete a story arc with two characters at once and for one of those characters to pick up his first saga award.  I’m looking forward to doing this more in the future!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting down those pirates!!

Last Week of February, Quest Runs February 22nd to February 25th

My quest runs over this past week were impacted by some travel I had to do for work.  I had some training to attend in Raleigh on Tuesday and Wednesday.  This impacted my quest runs on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as I had to travel Monday after work from the North Carolina Coast back to Raleigh.  However, I did take my computer with me so I did get some questing in :).

Before the traveling started, I did get a regular slayer run in.  I had another opportunity to do some dual boxing as I was scheduled to take Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) into Three Barrel Cove.  So shortly after logging in with Crawlller (who is on my Premium account), I also logged on Cannock (Level 8 Druid) and I took them both into shores of Three Barrel Cove.  While exploring the beautiful Three Barrel Cove landscape, they picked up another 58 slayers, discovered another four of the explorer points, and defeated Cannoneer Strinati.  From his chest, Crawlller picked up a Hair Dye: Snow.  However, because of the traveling time, that was the only quest run I completed on Monday.

Crawlller stumbling across the bell tower in Three Barrel Cove.

On Tuesday, I did a slayer run with Berann (Level 9 Barbarian) and Containment (Level 8 Cleric).  With Berann from my VIP account and Containment from my Premium account, I dual boxed them through Tangleroot Gorge.  Berann acquired another 108 slayers from the run and Containment picked up his last 42 slayers to hit the 1,500 slayer mark.  They also found and defeated Xassak, Vilesting, Kroshk, and rescued Jana.  The only thing Contaiment needs now for Tangleroot Gorge is find and defeat Gharjat and Kornak and then he will have the entire slayer area completed.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Hamllin (Level 18 Fighter) and I took him into the challenge Lava Caves: Time is Money.  I completed the collection of 100 crystals, buying less than nine minutes of time, and sending kobolds through teleporters 200 times.  Hamllin received 156 crystallized magma shards for the sucessful run.  After that run, I took Hamllin out into the Sands of Menectharun to continue his slayer runs out there.  In his explorations Hamllin picked up another 143 gnoll slayers, 73 scorrow slayers, and 62 undead slayers.  Hamllin us came across Mendexethazz, Stinkpelt, Lieutenant Ayurro, Whirling Ozann, and Thumak the Mad.  That night I logged on with Wapoyei (Level 24 Cleric/Divine Crusader) an I took him into Sschindylryn and into the quest House of Death Undone.  While in Sschindylryn I picked up another 11 drow slayers and 4 more children of Lolth slayers.  I also defeated Enrhiikuz, the mind flayer.  In the quest House of Death Undone, I completed the optional objectives for defeating 12, 24, and 36 undead drow, destroyed the cauldrons in the priestess chambers and the servants chambers, and defeated Silan Szind.  Some more notable encounters including fighting 13 Blademasters, four astral panthers, an acolyte of Lolth, and two guardian panthers.  Wapoyeie did suffer one defeat in the end fight.  For rewards I did pick up 10 mysterious remnants, one commendation: Druids of the King’s Forest, the Staff of the Necromancer, and 19 commendations of valor (quest reward).  I called it a night after that run.

Because of traveling back home and since Wednesday is also my weekly date night with my beautiful wife, I didn’t get a chance to play through any quests on Wednesday.  I didn’t get back to questing until Thursday morning when I logged on with Rimuldar (Level 23 Wizard/Draconic Incarnation) and I took him out into the King’s Forest.  During his hunting in this majestic forest, he collected another 36 slayers, which included five dire bears.  I also completed the Slaves to Many Masters rare encounter.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 26 Rogue/Lengendary Dreadnaught) and I took him through the Cannith Challenge Lava Caves: Colossal Crystal.  I figured after struggling in trying to complete Kobold Island: Short Cuts that instead I would run the other challenges to just convert those ingredients over to those that I need.  I was able to complete the objectives for collecting at least one colossal crystal and clearing out the arena.  Erdrique picked up 272 epic jade scorpions as his reward.  Later that night, I logged on with Berann and Containment and dual boxed with them for the second time in the week.  In my rotation, Berann was the next character scheduled to be played and he needed to complete Freshen the Air on elite.  So I took Berann, and dragged Containment with me, and ran through Freshen the Air on elite.  While adventuring through the quest Berann picked up a monster manual deed for troglodyte hunter (gaining over 1,600 experience) and I compelted the optional objectives for slaying Chief Shyrasser, the shamans, and minimum number of troglodytes.  After completing Freshen the Air, I headed off to the Necropolis to take on the first few quests in the Necro I series.  For these runs, I was joined by Nitewalker, and we headed off into the Tomb of the Crimson Heart.  Nitewalker had started the quest and had a good portion of it done by the time I got in there.  I didn’t remember collecting or completing any of the optional objectives.  After we made our way through Tomb of the Crimson Heart, we then headed into Tomb of the Immortal Heart.  While making our way through the tomb, Berann picked up 20 mysterious remnants and obtained another monster manual deed for ghasts (ghast hunter, giving over 4,000 experience).  We also broke of the summoning circles for fire, earth, and water.  We also defeated the Priest of the Crimson Heart and Prelate Abiram.  After this run, I had to call it a night.

Overall, it was mixture of runs during the limited amount of time I had this week.  However, they were fun runs and I was able to continue making progress on a few of my characters.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!

Random Loot in Explorer Zones

The random loot changes have resulted in quite a wide variety of new items and also led to quite a bit of discussion as well as intrigue when our favorite characters open chests once again.  Some of the changes to random loot include the scaling of the loot from chests to be equivalent to the level of the dungeon you are working through.  However, I wondered how this applies to chests that drop in explorer zones.  I tend to run through explorer zones quite often so this could have some impact on me.

So far I have found some interesting things.  Lately I have been running Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) through the Sands of Menechtarun.  The Sands of Menechtarun, also known as the “Desert”, has a level range of 8 to 15 to receive full experience while doing some questing out there.  The area is considered to be a level 11 explorer zone.  So how does the random loot scaling work in these areas?  Will you get random loot that has a level range of 8 to 15 or just level 11?  From what I can tell, it looks like you can get level 11 scaled loot.  One of the more fun things I have pulled recently out of the Desert was a belt that had +5 Strength,  +19 Spell Resistance, and a green augment slot.  Not a bad item at all.

Another thing I wondered about was how does the new level scaling of loot by quest level affect loot that drops from breakables.  From what I can tell, the loot from breakables also has the same scaling mechanic applied.  While running through a quick instance of Three Barrel Cove with Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) I broke a barrel/crate and saw a +2 Shocking Greataxe of Deadly drop from it.  I don’t remember what the level of the greataxe was but I believe it was still within the level 5 range (which is the level of the heroic Three Barrel Cove zone). So the crates and barrels also seem to be dropping the appropriate scaled loot as well.

In any case, it appears that the scaling of the loot that drops from explorer zones is based on its primary level and not on the range of levels where full experience is granted.  I look forward to making my way through the other explorer areas and seeing what other fun things I can find.

Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting in the wilderness zones!!

Mixing it Up, Quest Runs January 11th to January 14th

This particular week, I had a nice array of quest runs logged.  I ran characters through quests ranging from low level explorer zones to some epic quests and challenges.  I started out the week on Monday morning by taking Containment (Level 7 Cleric) and Cannock (Level 8 Druid) into Tangleroot Gorge for some slayers.  Later that afternoon, I continued with some slayers by taking Hamllin (Level 17 Fighter) back into the Sands of Menechtarun so that he could continue to work on his undead slayers.  After working my way around the domain of King Raiyum I logged out until later that night.  That night I was scheduled to play Stoorage (Level 14 Fighter) so I also decided to dual box with Tuhnn (Level 15 Bladeforged) as well.  I did this because they both needed to complete Delera’s Tomb.  Blackvale also happened to be logged on and offered to help me.  I also playing during our regular, weekly digital pen and paper session, so it was pretty busy night.  With Blackvale’s help, I was able to take Stoorage and Tuhnn through The Mystery of Delera’s Tomb, The Missing Party, Free Delera, Return to Delera’s Tomb, and The Thrall of the Necromancer.  Even being well over level for the quest, Tuhnn still wound up getting enough experience to level up to 16 (which I still need to do).  After those runs, I called it a night, as we had also finished up our pen and paper session as well.

Tuesday, I took Charlock (Level 15 Fighter) out into the Red Fens to continue his slayers out there.  I didn’t get a chance to log in during the afternoon but that night I logged on with Wapoyei (Level 24 Cleric/Divine Crusader) and I took him into the epic slayer area, Sschindylryn.  I then made my way through the Drow City of Portals to the quest House of Broken Chains and completed it on epic hard.  It turned out not be be as difficulty as I thought it was going to be.  However, it did take a good amount of time and by the time I finished it I had to call it a night.

On Wednesday, I started out the day by dual boxing once again, this time with Lorrikk (Level 13 Monk) and Stoorage.  I took them out into Sorrowdusk Isle to continue with Lorrikk slayers out there.  In the afternoon, I brought Hamllin back on and took him back out into desert for more undead slayers.  That closed out my Wednesday questing.

To close out the week on Thursday, I had another dual boxing session with Crawlller (Level 7 Ranger) and Cannock.  I took them out into Three Barrel Cove to focus primarily on Crawlller’s slayers.  In the afternoon, I logged on with Erdrique (Level 25 Rogue/Primal Avatar) and I took him through two iterations of the Extraplanar Palace: Buying Time as he continued to collected some Cannith Challenge Crafting ingredients.  Later that night, I logged on with Berann (Level 9 Barbarian) and Containment.  I took them both into the quest Proof is in the Poison and knocked it out on elite for both of them.  However, that was the only run I was to complete that night.

So, my questing over the week covered quite a variety of levels and quests.  Not a bad a week at all, although I did miss some questing opportunities.  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!
