Enemy Profile-Mummy Guardian

If you ever spend any time out in the Sands of Menechtarun and venture into the quests that comprise the Valley of the False Tombs, then you will encounter mummy guardians.  The mummy guardian is a common enemy in the great wastes of the desert and its associated tombs.  Out in the explorer zone, they tend to be sneaky and tend to actively hide from any adventurers.  However, with this said, they are extremely aggressive.  So although they don’t like to be taken by surprise, they are more than willing to announce their presence to surprise you.  Meanwhile, mummy guardians inside the tombs tend to be resting peacefully in their coffins or laying stationary in their open air caskets.  However, once you approach them they tend to awaken and to break out of their coffins to attack you.  And then of course if you break a coffin that they are sleeping in then they immediately get angry and start attacking.

In the explorer zone, the mummy guardians are typically associated with some of the eternal skeletons, entombed slaves/concubines, mephits, or other mummy types (regular mummies or avengers).  In the various quests, they can be either associated with the other enemy types or can be found in groups of 4 or 5.  The groups typically occur when you pass 6 or so coffins that are closely located to each other, which happens frequently in the Wiz-King.

These enemies can be challenging and quite annoying.  They have a few special abilities that make your adventuring in the desert quite problematic.  First off, they ability to hit you with mummy curse and mummy rot.  Mummy rot is extremely potent and it will continue to weaken your character until it is finally cured with a remove disease and remove curse spell or potion taken (you need to take both) or having the spells cast on you.  I also believe that a heal spell will remove mummy rot.  One thing to note is that mummy to will not be cured by resting at a shrine.  Mummy curse is another annoying ability that reduces the amount you can be healed by however it can be removed with a a remove curse.  Second, mummy guardians can have some powerful damage reduction and they can have pretty powerful attacks, especially on elite.  Another thing to point here, is that they have some limited spell casting abilities.  They especially like to cast fire resistance on themselves and to any other enemy nearby.

As a mummy, they are vulnerable to fire, as long as they haven’t casted fire resistance on themselves (which is typically the first thing they do).  In my experience they do tend to get tripped fairly easily which makes battling them much easier.  Also, undead bane weapons, disruption weapons, pure good, and holy weapons work against them quite well

So, be prepared for these creatures if you head out into the desert because you will encounter them!!  Thanks for reading everybody and happy hunting!!
